OK I'll try again...

I posted last week requesting advice about DVD changers that work for programming across disks to enable custom workouts. Alas, not one response was posted to my request.

Thinking that I was perhaps suspected of laziness, I embarked on a search of past forums and found a few threads on the topic, the last one being from 2003. A handful of posters indeed gave the names and models of their DVD players. But the most recent specific recommendations for models I could find were posted 3 years ago (and of course in 3 years available features and prices are likely to have changed).

So I ask again, PLEASE STEP FORWARD you variety-blessed people with DVD multidisc changers that can program and--perhaps even--save the programs you make.

It is almost impossible to find out if a DVD player can do what we want by researching on-line because most DVD consumers have no need to program by chapter, and the specs lists do not really address this.

Thanks for your help,

Linda

Hi Linda! I don't have a programmable multi disc changer, but thought I could at least try to help you out in your search. Here is a website that I found that lists all sort so them and their different prices. But being that i just read the last half of your paragraph, I'm affraid that this won't help you either. Maybe thime time A-Jock will see your thread and tell you which one that she has. I know that she has one and she loves it.
Here's the website anyway, just incase it does help.

Hi, Linda! I have a Sony 5-disc changer that is a fossil by now (circa 2002), but as Kathy02 said, I really love it. I am sure that the features of the current Sony multi-disc changers are much greater than my own. I do know that mine is programmable; however, I'm too much of a bonehead to program the multiple DVDs and try to save the programs (which I think my model can do). I find it just as easy, in fact easier, just to load my DVDs for the workout in the machine, mark the points where I want each workout to begin, and go. I tend to get tired of my mish-moshes fairly quickly and like to fiddle around with them; thus saving my programs isn't something I've wanted to do.

How's THAT for a non-answer? I like the Sony brand; if I were ever to change my current one out it would be for another Sony. Sony even makes a 400-disc changer (not a typo). Ah, the mish-moshes I could do with that one . . .

Thanks so much Kathy and A-Jock for coming to my rescue. I had previously come across the link you sent me Kathy, but in most cases the specs lists were not specific about programability. Often times, they would state that CDs could be programmed, but no mention on DVDs. Of course as previously stated on these boards, this is not surprising because consumers don't usually have a need to program DVDS.

On A-Jock's advice, I will look at the Sonys and perhaps even venture into an electronics store (yikes!). I appreciate your thoughtfulness in advising both of you. And I'm glad to hear A-Jock that the mish moshes are easy to program once you have a machine that can handle it. Thanks so much,

Linda

Hi Linda! I have a programmable Sony model DVP-NC665P. The instruction book has a copyright of 2003 but I purchased it new from eBay a little over a year ago. I'm sure if you keep an eye on eBay some of these models will come up every so often.

For me the programmable feature isn't as important as just having the capability of loading 5 discs. Nice thing about my player (and a lot of Sonys from what I understand) is that the player remembers where on the disc you pressed the stop button so you can cue up all your DVDs where you want them to start and just use the remote to 'disc skip' over to the next DVD.

One downfall of the program feature is that it only remembers the last program you put in. Also it takes a while to put in every stinkin' chapter you want to play and there's this little pause when it switches chapters that is a little offputting to me.

I remember doing this same research before buying mine so I certainly understand your questions. Good luck!

I also have the Sony 5-cd changer. My model is new (just bought in the last three months) and does NOT allow for saving programs that are chaptered across multiple CDs. It does, however, allow you to program along ONE CD. It also resumes play at whatever point you stopped at on any CD. Thus, if I mish-mosh, I will set my CDs to the place where I want each to start and then forward through the series.

I was looking specifically for a DVD player that would allow programming across multiple CDs and saving that program, but alas, it does not seem to exist. The folks in Best Buy looked at me like I had three heads. Clearly they were not workout buffs. :7

Good luck!

Marie- You and I must be sisters because I got the same looks last month when I went to Best Buy and asked the same question!!!! I also got the Sony 5 disc changer.

Although I am not able to program across multiple discs, I am just happy that I can put more than one in at a time! I am also just happy that it will play all my Cathes! My old DVD player was circa 1997 and several of my Cathes would play on it, they would skip, freeze, etc, but wouldn't on our newer player in the bedroom.

you know this is not totally on the subject. BTW I also have a 5 disc sony. Anyway I just wanted to say that I put all of my Cathe's in too and then when my hubby goes to use the player he says "WHY DO YOU HAVE ALLLLLL OF THE CATHE DVD'S IN HERE!!!!!'' He just doesn't get it sometimes. LOL
LD;)
