Oatmeal -- Help!

Well, aren't you all a wonderful bunch! :) Thank you for all the suggestions. You all know what I'll be trying to eat for breakfast tomorrow!

Lisa.

I use one half cup oatmeal, one packet splenda, approximately 1-2 teaspoons Bisquick, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and enough liquid to make a batter (milk, eggbeaters, egg whites whatever the mood hits me) and fry an oatmeal pancake (in butter tasting Pam) just about every morning. I use 2 Tablespoons low cal pancake syrup. I actually look forward to this.

I have sometimes used Sugar Twin brown sugar and a little cinnamon for flavoring and skipped the syrup, and thought it was good this was also. Tomorrow I may add a small amount of chopped pecans.

Sugar Free Maple Syrup.
Roasted/toasted almonds
blueberries

someone once suggested pumpkin pie filling. I haven't tried it yet, it sounds good to me.

Lisa!!!

Just realized you are LisaB from Canton! How are YOU? Great to see you here. Oh my, which idea are you going to try? I love oatmeal and they all sound good to me. I eat oatmeal at least twice a week and my cholestrol is great. Good Luck, hope one of the ideas hits the spot for you.

RE: Lisa!!!

Hi Debbie! I have no idea which one I'll start with. They all sound so tastey. I'm doing great. Very busy, as I've started a new business since we met. I'm teaching fitness classes to preschoolers in daycare centers in this area and Akron. It's been a year now and it's going pretty good. I'm enjoying it and it fits in with our family-time well, since I only do it 3 mornings a week. How's that grandbaby of yours? Take Care.

RE: Lisa!!!

Oh my goodness, that is WONDERFUL! I had no idea. Can I ask the name of the company you started? I know several gals/Mom's in your area and I also have two instructor's in your area with students who might be interested in signing their kids up. Do you have a web site? That is just great. Glad it is going well.

Kennedy is doing great. (There are a FEW pix of her at Cathe Addicts.) She turned two in June and just talks up a storm now. I carried on a full-fledged conversation with her on the phone last night and I almost cried when I got off. She understood and answered my questions and told me all about her swing Dad, (not Daddy) hung in her new basement for her! She was talking in full sentences. I know I am having a "Granny Moment" here, but it literally blew me away. Thank you for asking. I'd love to meet some day again soon for lunch. Maybe after a class???

RE: Lisa!!!

It's called Stretch-n-Grow and it's actually a franchise. You can check out the website at www.stretch-n-grow.com. Currently I only do it in day care centers (so it's only open to the kids that attend that day care), bit I'm ALWAYS willing to look into new situations. Feel free to pass on my number and e-mail. I'd love to meet some day for lunch. Wednesdays are particularly good.

My current favorite is cooking my oatmeal in the mircrowave with skim milk. Once it is done I add:
applesauce
cinnamon
butterbuds
splenda
1/4 cup cottage cheese (for some extra protein)
toasted walnuts
May sound a little strange but I think the combination is really good.

I don't have it with me, but the current copy of Cooking Light magazine has a very good recipe for a baked oatmeal. It makes several portions and reheats nicely in the microwave for a quick breakfast! You can vary the ingredients too--craisins instead of raisins, etc.

I love oatmeal and I eat it everyday.

I eat the old fashioned oats and if you let them soak in the milk/water for a little while you can microwave them without explosion. I usually pour the water on them and let it sit in the fridge while I workout and then heat it for 2.5 minutes in the microwave.

I make mine with water and a splash of skim milk then add about 2 oz of fat free vanilla yogurt (I love Dannon Light n Fit Creamy) and either fresh or frozen berries. If I use frozen berries, I microwave the oatmeal alone for 1.25 minutes then add the berries and microwave another 1.25 minutes. Then I add the yogurt.

I love it!
