O/T Prayers for my puppy please.

Hi Wendy, try not to worry too much,i understand much easier said than done though HUh ? We have a mixed breed dog thats a cross between a golden and a cocker spaniel ( she looks like a smallish golden w/ cocker features on her face )a couple of years ago she had to have some growths and cycsts also removed and no cancer she is fine ,the Vet told us that in some breeds this is not an uncommon thing so hope for the best that that is what it is ,also not sure but i would think if it is cancer he would have other symptoms as well,so keep positive thoughts!,Give your baby a hug from me!

Wendy,
Praying for your puppy. I'm a huge animal lover and I have 2 babies of my own (my dog is a 14 year old baby!)

Hi Wendy.

Thinking of you and your sweet pooch and praying for an easy, non-serious and painfree recovery.

Hey wendy, from another wendy :) :) :)

Prayers coming from my household.... i love goldens!!! we babysit our friends golden regularly, and can't resist taking her with us everywhere. she is so funny and fun!!!
Anyway, my understanding from our friends, is that goldens are predisposed to skin conditions (not cancerous). They have had theirs to the vet several times for skin conditions.

And if it makes you feel any better (and i'm not a vet) but i am an oncology nurse and have seen and treated cancer patients for years, even if it was cancerous, mostly surgical removal is all that is necessary. But, i don't want to cross the line into veterinary medicine. I just want to ease your worries, and let you know i'm praying for you and your dog and will watch your posts to see how this turns out.

Wendy...my thoughts and prayers are with Clyde. I have had alot of dogs too....I also have seen these type of bumps...good and bad. Mostly good on my dogs, like fatty deposits, the bad ones were just removed. I have a chesapeake/lab cross now that is about 12, she has had lumps for a long time and so far she is fine. Although a little deaf and not seeing so well, but we love her just the same...:)...let us know how things go....:)...Carole

I've been avoiding this thread because I was afraid of what was happening to your baby. I think that tumors are pretty common on retrievers (at least I know they are on chocolate labs). My dog had a really disgusting growth on his side when he was a puppy. They removed it and it was benign. It has never come back.

I am definitely on your side here. Please keep us informed.

No news yet...still to early for that...

Just wanted to say that alot of what I am reading here is giving me hope that we could get good news next week...Thank you all.

My hubby, on the other hand, is very paranoid and is convinced he has cancer. He's already considering how we would handle it if we got bad news. I have told him that it could be numerous other issues that are not life threatening but for some reason he is still expecting the worst...;(

Thanks for the bump, Gina!

Spoke to the breeder we bought Clyde from to see if anything like this ran in his blood line. She said his mom had a SINGLE growth of some type on her when she was 4 months old. The vet said not to be concerned unless it grows, changes, etc. Well, it never changed and his mom is healthy and happy. She also said that Goldens are prone to skin problems(far less serious than cancer ofcourse)-which I was HAPPY to hear...I'm sure you can understand why!

As far as the vet...won't know anything until *atleast* tmrw.

Clyde is still happy go lucky as ever! I'm so glad that he doesn't appear to be bothered by whatever is wrong with him.

Your concern is appreciated more than you could imagine!!

Thank you sooo much and I'll be sure to post as soon as I hear anything else!

~Wendy~

Wendy,

Thanks for updating! We're all rooting for the little guy. I just realized you live in Monmouth County- I'm in Hudson. I'm actually looking to take my dog Mikey to a vet opthamologist in Red Bank or Tinton Falls. Have you ever been to the Red Bank Animal Hospital or Garden State Veterinary Specialists?

Thanks!

Wendy,

I bet it all turns out ok. I am like your hubby tho. In April, my vet noticed what could have possibly been an enlarged heart on my Dobe and we had to wait six months to re-x-ray to see if it was growing. Cardiomyopathy is a big killer in the breed and this is a sign. I was convinced he had every sign I read about, was going to pass away, etc....turns out he is just fine. Just me being a worry wort!

Hi Gina,

Just wanted to let you know that a few years ago I took my cat to the Specialists in Tinton Falls and I was soo impressed with both the facilities and how incredibly well my cat was treated while there. Everyone that came in contact with him treated Snowy like a king! They are expensive, just to warn you but I would take any of my animals there in a heart beat, they were that good!! I hope it helps! By the way I'm in Middlesex county!

Take care!

We have a 10 month old yellow lab, Ruby. If anything happened to her I don't know what I'd do! ... My prayers are with you and your pup. Keep giving him hugs and love, they seem to have miracle qualities about them - for both of you! All the best- Susan

Thanks so much, Sandy! I'm making him an appointment with Dr. Lackner. The consultation is about $100, expensive indeed. Piece of mind is priceless, though, right?

Gina,
I don't remember the name of the dr. that saw my cat but I do remember how everyone who worked there just LOVED animals, you could really tell!! You are sooo right, piece of mind is definitely priceless:7 Let me know how the appointment goes, I hope all is well your "baby"!!!!
