Now I remember......

We're just going through a bit of a rough patch right now guys. No worries. People are really stressed out and there's a lot to talk about and a lot on people's minds. Unfortunately most of these things aren't related to fitness, :( and when it's all people can think about, it's hard to shut off that anxiety and thought process when you log onto the Cathe forum.

Everyone hang in there. We'll be ok. Cathe.com has had some rough times before but we've made it through. I like to think of this site and the forum as a bit of an escape from reality where I can chat about my (slightly ridiculous) adoration of Cathe, her workouts, and fitness in general. Maybe we should all try and think of Cathe dot Com as our little "escape" for a while. Everyone's stressing about the economy, money, war, politics, etc. every other moment of our lives. We should try and make this place our "refuge" from all that negativity and stress.

Just a thought. I'm not ready to give up on this site yet. I love Cathe (and many of you!) far too much. :)

Amen! Where would I go to discuss Cathe workouts, my adventures in protein powders and supplement experimentation, the latest non-Cathe DVDs and new fitness stuff? All my friends in the non-virtual realm think I'm insane. Please at least continue to drop by and see if anything fun is happening!

ITA - I remember this happening around the 2004 election as well.

Yep, what she said! I haven't been spending much time around here lately, and quite frankly, it's getting harder and harder to find a thread I care to participate in.

I totally agree Michele. It seems ever since the boards were switched over to Cathenation I really have nothing to say on the open discussion. I even started a thread this morning about how to ignore certain people. Let's just say, the list is longer than I thought it would be.

Ditto!

I've been on this forum since 1999 (although you wouldn't know it by my post count:eek:).

Hey NinjaMom,

I've been on this forum since 1999 too. But check out my post count. LOL!

I'll admit that I almost never post out of fear of being thought of as a "troll". Although I did post for Cardio Coach Press Play Challenge. I LOVE CCPP!

I do enjoy the Open Discussion the most, but I tend to get fired up over the few rude people. I find that Cathe's forum has some great political discussions that stay polite. But boy, lately I've seen some doozers that make me go yikes! Probably because the election is so close?

But I do believe for the most part that Cathe's forum has amazingly intelligent people who know how to discuss politics and religion and exercise without being volatile. I actually LOVE to read the intelligent responses to the angry, hateful responses. It makes me cheer for the calm, rational person regardless of if I agree with their stance or not.

I've been on this forum since 1999 (although you wouldn't know it by my post count:eek:). I've seen a lot of people come and go as well as an increasing number of flame wars. I just choose to ignore those posts rather than fuel the flames. I'm not going to let anyone push me away from here...there are just too many wonderful people I've met and enjoy "talking" to. Heck...I'm even one of Robin's peeps now;) How great is that!

JJ

How do you become one of Robins peeps? How fun!

I wondered if it was just me. I have barely posted in weeks, things are just too tense and stressful. It's almost like being at work :p

Who cares?

I don't really get why you care that much? You can read what the post is about before clicking on it. I think it's good for us women to vent even if it's just on here instead of holding it in. And as previously stated it is open discussion. Maybe you should try not to take things so personable, that can't be good for you either.

Now I remember why I was a lurker only and went away from the boards for so long. Just too much hostility, anger, and plain old fashioned meanness on the boards lately. Flame away, but I try to avoid the obvious *antagonistic/political/religious* threads, but darned if the apparently *innocent* ones aren't tricking me now. And on top of it all, now we have spam attacks![/QUOTE=horseshowmom;1758220]

Thats unfortunately the nature of any open forum. People are who they are inside & some take the anonymity of internet to actually be the person they arent allowed to be in society. I take all of it with a grain of salt.

I would like to think that most people are basicly good & sometimes things just get out of hand. Personally- I write sensitive posts in WORD documents and then save it for later in the day, re-read it and then decide if I really want to post it. Usually if its a hot issue for me & I wrote my post in that fashion I just let it stay in WORD and never copy it to the boards.... its still cathartic to write it tho!;)

I do totally understand the need to "step away" for a bit at times...I do the same with news, elections etc..... Too much doom & gloom & ugliness can really take its toll.

traci what a great way to express yourself without just saying anything. i sometimes right out responses as well then just don't send b/c sometimes it will only fan the flames even though i mean well to put out the fire. ppl are going to believe what they want to believe and no amount of bickering back and forth will change anybody's mind on how they feel. after all its THEIR feelings and they have a right to feel that way regardless of what the other person thinks or feels.

hate to cliche this but its the same thing counseling tells dh and i. step back, cool down, then return to the conversation with a calm mind that way you can have a "friendly fight" without going at it with anger. anger will only cause more anger and lead to things said that we don't really mean to say.

can't say its just these threads(elections, religions, etc) there have been fitness threads that get out of hand b/c of difference in beliefs that some feel very strongly about! it can happen on any board, any forum, about ANYTHING.

but as a whole group we need to keep in mind that ppl are entitled to their beliefs and feelings and if you think they are mean or nasty then just don't respond. we have a right to speak our mind but we also have a choice not be involved in the negativity.

becky i don't blame you, you feel what you feel and you have to do what is right for you and i respect that b/c only you know what is right for you. i know there are times i take some things said on here personally but i just don't respond whether its directed at me or not. take a break if you need to and check in every now and then.

AMEN Sis-ta!!:D

Kassia,

Have you ever thought of being a writer or public speaker?! VERY well said, ITA!!

i am modest about it but several relatives think i should be a writer. i just write how i would speak(minus a few "sentence enhancers" sorry have a sailors tongue).

Lol, that's funny! I also agree with Nicole. Every time I see you have written something I can't wait to read it because you are so articulate. I am not a butt kisser, btw, I swear! :p
