Nourishing Gurus

Hey Angela- I hope today is better for you. We are here to support one another so reach out and we'll be ready to help any way we can :)

Jann - what a relief someone else that isn't that great at cooking - I am always amazed at how people know what & how much to just add to a recipe - and when I follow a recipe it's rarely good. Plus being picky, I'm hesitant to try new recipes. I'm not used to cooking every night. So many people prepped their meals and were cooking recipes and doing awesome that I felt like the slow study. How did you like the tuna salad? Has anyone tried the shepard's pie or either of the chicken burgers yet?

Ninjamom - is the Nutiva hemp powder gritty at all when using it in a smoothie? I tried the vegasport one & couldn't take more than 1 sip - gave it to my husband. It was so gritty - like drinking dirt & grass (may just be me being picky & what I'm use to).

Angela - I am similar to you in that I just want to lose the little extra weight and clean up the way I eat for life. I have no previous conditions to heal (although I'm wondering now since I've had a headache since last night-wondering what food item that withdrawal symptom is coming from)! I don't know if we are supposed to take any pills for headaches since we are to record how we feel. I have to admit all I can think about is the foods I can't have - I think I have a problem if that is the constant thing on my mind! I am also very hungry (I posted to you on the FB page earlier). Hopefully our stomachs adjust soon & our headaches go away.

I feel lighter & the lemon water def gives me energy (I don't know if I'll work up to the ACV). Besides the headaches, I feel alert and energetic. The gurus are def quick to reply and FB group is very supportive of eachother. Just checking in here every day keeps me going - I love that I'm not in this alone!

I enjoyed the tuna. My DH asked me to leave the mustard out of his half next time.
Also --- I made the lentil soup today for lunch, my son dropped by on his way from voting so I asked him to stay for lunch. :) The soup smelled d really good, so he stayed. Well, I served it to them sat down took a bite and thought, not bad. DH and son looked at each other and my DH said "this taste like dirt" my son said "is that what's in it?" :D I thought it was OK. Not sure I'll make it again. I still have a serving left over for me later. It needs something to give it a kick. I read on FB people are adding red peppers, that might help.

I really like the look of the Shepard's pie. I have that on next weeks menu.

I agree BlakKat the FB group is very supportive. Keeping up is a full time job!

Ninjamom - is the Nutiva hemp powder gritty at all when using it in a smoothie? I tried the vegasport one & couldn't take more than 1 sip - gave it to my husband. It was so gritty - like drinking dirt & grass (may just be me being picky & what I'm use to).

I didn't find it to be gritty but I blended it with almond milk and a banana. The flavor has a mild grassiness to it but it wasn't unpleasant. I might try adding some cocoa powder next time and see how that tastes. I depend on protein shakes, especially on strength training days to reach my protein intake goals so I was glad to find one on the "approved" list that is not disgusting.

Thanks Jann & Ninjamom! My husband has a chocolate hemp protein powder that I'm going to try in the morning. And I think I will make the shepherds pie either later this week or next week. I love and appreciate everyone's honesty. Nothing like spending money on all the ingredients not knowing how it will taste.

Thank you all. I may have been expecting something different from their program, and maybe I should have come into it after foods are added back in. I don't have health issues or a lot of weight to lose - just the typical 10 lbs that would be nice if it left and didn't come back. I was hoping to have some additional recipes, etc. to help dh reduce the amount of "white stuff" he loves to eat and clean up my diet a little further.

Last night I woke up hungry and had a snack. It took 2 hours to get back to sleep and then I had to get up an hour later. At that point, I was ravenous and had to eat first before doing anything else. And of course, I had to have a much larger breakfast than usual. DH and I had to have an early lunch today, too. We were both starving. (He had tried one of their breakfasts.) I've chosen not to follow the plan today since I'm also fighting a migraine and I need to have enough sustenance for my workout later. I'll stew on it some more and decide what I will do. Meanwhile, I did see another Cathlete struggling with hunger, so I do feel better that I spoke up.

Thanks again!

Angela -

Here's what I reminded myself of when I was starving on the first day: The serving sizes are just recommended. Following "the plan" means eating to nourish your body. That means eating when you are feeling a true sensation of hunger.

So I've been eating more than the "recommended" amounts. Nor a ton more, and only when I'm hungry, but I don't want to mess up my metabolism. Cathe's helped me build a lot of muscle and I want to keep it. Oops, computer prob..,to be continued

part 2:

Anyway, I know the gurus said something about hunger being related to withdrawals, but (1) Im already a clean eater, so I have nothing to withdraw from..well, I do eat peanuts and corn, so there's that I suppose, but it seems unlikely. And (2) if you're salivating over the thought of eating an apple or stalk of celery, you're hungry. If only some potato chips will do, well that's a different story. :)

I hope this helps. I just wanted you to know you're not alone in needing to take in more than the recommended amounts.

I joined to clean up my eating too. I've definitely learned a lot so far. I'm a huge snacker...usually on chips and cheese right when I get home from work. I'm famous for mindless eating. I'm doing what I feel comfortable with. If I'm hungry, from working out, I'll eat more. Some of the recipes are great, others not so much. It's a learning process, that's for sure!

Angela - I agree, I think my headache was from starving. The protein powder I had this morning was my husband's hemp one. It was good but still a little grainy. I am used to my whey & can't wait to go back to that. I really do feel great - I can't believe how "awake" I feel. But like you said, because we are picky eaters, we are limited - and I am starting to get bored with the same meals & snacks. I want to find out what sensitivites I have, but at the same time I can't help but want to shorten it. It will be a glorious day when I can have an egg again - and I'm not even a huge egg eater. I was a fairly clean eater before & I am going to try to keep going as it is outlined, but I can't deny that I am still thinking about sweets all the time & even food I normally don't want. I spent a ton of money & running around to different stores like you said - I may try a few recipes but nothing that seems like I wouldn't like it. Where did you get their pina colada smoothie recipe from? I checked the packet and their website. Can you please share?

Thank you so much Angela for the link! Everyone has to do what's right for them and now we have the information that will give us the knowledge to eat a little cleaner and like they said you will still see the benefits.

Hi Angela, I am feeling better, thank you! It was a horrible night & I can't get the memory out of my head of that meal . We hated the cauliflower part so much that we barely ate any - mostly the meat. Maybe it was just a heavy meal for me. I know everyone else liked it - I am just very picky & like what I'm use to. Plus cooking by itself stresses me out! No one can talk to me or be in the room with me, I get a headache, my back hurts. I hate it! It starts out good - I think I can do this - look at me - I look like I know what I'm doing & it always goes wrong somewhere. I'm in awe of people that can cook! I'm still finding pieces of cauliflower around my kitchen that my blender sent flying. It was a huge waste of money & time so I will not be experimenting on any more recipes. I am back to feeling super energized and great today but at the same time I am wondering how I will stick to it over the weekend. How are you doing?

BlakKat omgosh! These recipes are work.
I am doing OK so far. I don't find the food horrible, my DH on the other hand is not liking it! He told me he wasn't eating it anymore. He wants to go back to basics, protein and vegetables. So this week I"ll be doing more of that. I am looking the recipes to put together my shopping list for today. We are eating lunch out.

Hi,

I hear you on the work involved with shopping, cutting, cooking etc for the recipes. I have yet to make a main dish, but I think I will attempt one this weekend. I have lost 2 pounds this week, probably mostly water, but it helps keep the enthusiasm up. :).

I've been too busy at work to make any of the recipes other than then choco protein balls because I needed snacks, so I've just used the protocol to ensure what I could do for a meal was in the plan. (E.g., fish, veggies, good fat). I just make sure whatever I have doesn't have soy, corn, etc. I wouldn't pressure yourself to use the recipes if you don't like to cook or don't care for them. I think we're all supposed to do what works for us, just within the protocol.

But I have to say I can't wait to try some of the recipes because they look so good to me.

Hope you're all doing well!

Pam

After much back and forth, I chose to get a refund so I'm out of the FB group now. Good luck to the rest of you! Keep me posted. Thanks.
Angela -- Good luck to you also! As the saying goes "life is to short to eat things you do not like!" hugs!

I'm interested too to hear if those that did it felt they got a benefit and if they thought it was worth the cost.

It definitely showed me how to eliminate the foods that cause my sugar/carb addiction to flare. I thought it was worth it for the one session, I didn't sign up for the monthly ones, though I am sure you can learn more and the support is good.
