No more excuses! I want success.....

Hello,
I have been around for a little while and this time, I am here to stay. I would like to give support and also get some while on this journey to fitness. As I approach my 41st birthday, I just want to get in shape, be healthy and be an example to my teenage daughter.

I have been on diets most of my adult life, with little success. I met a wonderful trainer at the gym who is going to begin a 6 week Shape Up challenge and I figured that would be the jump start that I needed, so I signed up, we will start November 9th. I will incorporate the many Cathe DVD's that I own and have not been using (my own fault) and hopefully this will be the kickoff to wonderful fitness, right before the hectic holidays! ;)

My diet will definitely have to change, but I am up for this challenge. I was able to lose 15 lbs, last year by following a super restrictive diet and you would think that because of it, I should have lost the 50 lbs that I needed to lose, but when you deprive yourself of so many different food groups, when you fall you often fall hard.

I just need to exercise some common sense, eat smart and sensible, coupled with exercise, I should be able to take off the remaining 35 lbs. I have a stomach that I never had before and I truly don't even recognize my body anymore. I could cry, but that would not help either.

So here I am, on a journey to find me again! I know that it's not going to be easy every step of the way, but I really want to do this for me this time.

Hi there, and welcome! :) Signing up with the trainer is an excellent idea, they provide motivation that a lot of people need especially when starting out, for me, I hate breaking appointments, so I never canceled unless I was sick or on vacation. And because I was paying money for it, I knew I had to do more on my own to make it worthwhile.

Eating always seems to be the hardest part. But very restrictive diets rarely work out in the long term, who can really eat like that forever??

I notice a lot of people do very well by following either clean eating, or variations of it. Cutting out sugar, most starches, and as much processed food as possible.

You are definitely on the right path, give it time to see results, when you slip up, don't beat yourself up, just move on like it never happened, some people just lose weight slower, make sure to take your measurements so if you have another way to measure success.

Good luck on your journey, and keep posting, I know it helped me immensely.

I agree with everything Dela posted.

Remember: What works is fueling your body with wholesome, nutritious, delicious foods that you delight in eating and that make you feel good. Remember too, that it's natural to be hungrier on some days than on others, and you need to follow your body's signals. As long as you are eating nutritious foods, as opposed to empty calories, it's perfectly fine to eat more some days. Indulge your body: tune into its cycles and learn what makes it work best and feel best.

Best of luck and enjoy your new trainer!

Hello everyone and thank you for your words of wisdom as well as encouragement.

Today I had class after work, so I will use Mondays as my rest day. Tomorrow I will go to a CardioKick class and to Cathe's CoreMax. On Wednesday I plan to do a little run/walk on the treadmill and STS #1.

Next week is the kick off and I feel like this trainer would come a close second to Cathe. She loves Cathe's workouts as well, I found out. So I think I'm in for it.

I am determined this time around, so I know that I will find the right combination of eating and exercise. I hope to get a clear picture of what a healthy diet is all about, without completely giving up everything that I enjoy.

I know that I gained weight in my stomach since December. I noticed that some of my pants are a little snug in the waist whereas last year they would have been looser. I'm not panicking because it depends on how the clothes are made I can still fit into a size 16 (which is at my lowest weight). I've been overweight all my life and have tried all kinds of diet, so I don't diet but I watch what I'm eating. Now I need to get back on track with better eating habits, I just don't know what I want to eat anymore and many nights I don't have the energy to cook anything. I have 3 more classes until I finish my master's degree (should finish the end of March) and after that I should be able to do better.

I workout 6 days a week, so now its down to my eating habits. I need to know what the best foods are for my body type etc.

I'll figure something out in the meantime.

Eating has always been my downfault. but, I'll never give up. It'll come together one day. But, I will say the farther I get into my 40s, the harder it is to control cravings and minimized my core area.

Hello everyone,

I made it through my birthday without eating any cake or ice cream. That is a big success for me. I know that I would be going to my favorite restarant which is a Japeanese steak house, so I was good all day so that I could enjoy my dinner.

I got up today and had a sensible breakfast, no fast food for lunch and home cooking for dinner. That is a step in the right direction as far as eating goes.

I got in a 45 min. treadmill run/walk this evening because DD had an Orchestra Concert.

On Tuesday, we will begin the Shape Up kick off with the trainer and I will begin on Wednesday incorporating my favorite DVD trainer, Cathe with this challenge.

I can't wait for the new DVD's that I ordered? Speaking of which has anyone got their shipment yet?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

With that kind of attitude, you can only lose and be fit! Good for you.;)

Welcome here at Cathe's and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better through your journey. Did you know the journey never stops?

You just gave yourself a wonderful present.

Janie,

Thank you for the birthday wish. I am looking forward to looking and feeling better.

I just need to decided on a good pair of shoes. I love Nike Shox, but I also really love my Reebok Zigs.

Any suggestions?

Looking forward to the next 6 weeks. Started with trainer, My new Cathe workouts should be shipped on the 19th and I also ordered Michelle Dozios Peak 10 workouts. So I should be getting a really good but kicking which is what I need.

I also have pulled out my eating plan that works, I just need to work it. I want maximum results, so I am not holding back and I am not going to give myself any excuses.

It looks like you have made a great start.

Try to keep things in perspective: It's a marathon, not a sprint. If you want to stick with it this time, try to make changes that you can maintain long term.

You should be able to have a piece of cake on your birthday, just don't eat cake every day! ;)

Congratulations on getting started on a healthier lifestyle.

wendygurl, I met with the trainer yesterday after doing her kickboxing class ans what a butt kicking I got. I felt great after leaving last night, but today I am a little sore. I won't meet with her again until Friday. I am looking forward to it, but so looking foward to this being the start to a better body.

She's great and in such tremendous shape for over 40.

I have some friends wanting to join the challenge and I am going to encourage them to do so.

Have a wonderful day!
