Hello everyone,
I'm new to CF DVDs. I purchased my first one a few months ago and love it ( Muscle Max) I'd like to purchase a few more but I'm confused as there are so many to choose from.
My question is : which set of DVDs would you suggest for me to buy as a Cathe newbie? Any favs?

About me: I'm 41, a beginner in terms of step ( i'm not good at it), more advanced in terms of muscle strength.

Any suggestions of what to buy would be great. :D

Welcome

For step I recommend
1. Basic Step and Body Fusion
2.Low Impact Circuit
3. High Step Circuit,

These DVDs will help to introduce you to Cathe's style of step aerobics.

I love Power hour,Maximum Intensity Stregnth!

And for step, just like Robin says! I would add Low Impact Step, its a good one too!

Glittergirl, what are you hoping to accomplish with your exercise?

When you say you aren't good at step, do you want to be good at it? Some people don't care for it, so buying a step workout wouldn't make much sense.

Do you already have equipment? What kinds?

Do you prefer circuit workouts (weights and cardio combined) or heavy lifting, or a good mix?

So many workouts to choose from... have fun! :D

Hello,

I would recommend the Intensity Series, it's my favourite. It has:

Pyramid Upper Body and Pyramid Lower Body - heavy weight training using the pyramid system where you start light with high reps (12) then move up a weight for less rep (10) then move to your heaviest for least reps (8) then work your way back down again. I love this workout as you can chop and change it for your own goals. For example, you can just use the heaviest weights and repeat 3 times for heavy weight training, or use it as a light weight workout. I wish that Cathe had thought of this when she did the premixes as there is so much potential in this DVD. The bicep workout is a killer.

BootCamp and Muscle Endurance DVD - cicuit training with cardio and light weights and endurance weight work.

IMAX 2 & Cardio and Weights - IMAX is interval training that is tough but lots of fun. The Cardio and Weights has simple step and not too high impact which you can do on it's own. The weight training is medium to heavy.

For my money I definitely vote for the Intensity Series if you are new to Cathe.

Thanks Yen, for the suggestion..Cathe's DVDs are not cheap so I wanted to be sure to buy the right ones. I think I will start with the intensity series. What are premixes?

Hi there, thanks for your reply...
I'm hoping to lose aprox 15 lbs.Gain muscle lose fat. Your right i don't care much for step but I feel if the routine is part of a circut or intervals and not too complicated, I'll do it...I mostly enjoy muscle conditioning ...but don't mind it mixed with cardio intervals.
I reached my goal and was very proud of myself aprox 5 months ago ( I got married in April) soon as we came back from our honeymoon...yikes..I put on 15lbs and stopped exercising..I just feel aweful, and it's really not like me...I'm ready to get back on the exercise/healthy train!:D

glittergirl3,

The Pyramids do not have many premixes, but there is scope for you to make up your own workout using the Mix & Match menu. This just basically list all the exercises which you can jump to. When that is finished it takes you back to the menu and you can select the next execise. The premixes are either pyramid up or pyramid down for upper and lower body i.e. you start with lightest weight and then go up to heaviest and move on to the next set of exercise and do the same thing, or start with the heaviest and move down. You also have a bonus workout which is a total body workout. I used this one once before and I thought it was OK.

BootCamp and Muscle Endurance has more premixes and they are good ones. I will list the ones that I remember of the top of my head, Bootcamp cardio only (I like this), Bootcamp core work only (I like too), Bootcamp weights only (not used yet). Muscle Endurance upper body only and Muscle Endurance lower body.

IMAX 2 has IMAX blasts only, blast mania, combos 1-5 only, combo 6-10 only. Cardio & Weights has cardio only, weights only, compound heavy weight. All of Cathe's DVDs have Mix & Match menu so you can make a ton more.

There are more premixes but I haven't used them so I can't comment. You can use this for a very long time, so it's definitely worth the money. I like it because of the variety, circuit training, muscle endurance, strength traning, interval traning, steady state cardio, abs workout, upper body split, lower body split, total body workout. I can go on......

Hi Yen, Thanks again for your reply....I have 1 DVD-muscle mixes and i love it...your info is very helpful....I'm going to try a couple of new DVDs.

If you enjoy kickboxing, then you might also want to think about getting KPC or KickMax. Both of them are great workouts that require no equipment. I like them both equally, but I think that most people on the forums prefer KPC.

Also, my favorite circuit workout is Drill Max. It's so much fun to do! The step choreography is more basic, too, so it might be easier for you to pick up on.

I've also found that in Low Max Cathe breaks down the step choreography more slowly than she does in the other step videos I have, which might make it another good choice for you.

Good luck!

When I started doing step (just a few months ago) I began with these workouts in this order:

1. Basic Step
2. Low Impact Step
3. Low Max
4. Low Impact Circuit

This really eased me into learning to do the step stuff and worked great. Definitely Low Impact Step is the next easiest to Basic Step, though the weights workouts that accompany them will be way too easy for you (though you can try them and just lift heavier than they do on the video).

I also recommend the Pyramids--love them!
