New Runners June 2010

Goodness Ladies! What a day of events and things! Let's see if I can keep up:

Alisha - I just laughed out loud about the "downhill" comment! I don't stay on my back, so sleeping without a pillow would probably just be worse for me since I'd flip to my side and then I would be really skewed up! I'm hoping some ice and heat will help tonight. Book club sounds like fun! I wish I could do that, but it'd be hard since I have so many other things going on all at once and I don't get through a book as fast as I used to because of that!

Cindi - I'm glad you're okay and didn't get any damage from the storms! We're supposed to be getting some pretty bad weather here tonight. It's awfully windy, but still sunny right now. I hope it bypasses us! I have a Tempurpedic mattress and pillow, so that has alleviated all of my chronic issues, but these little acute attacks are a real pain (snort, snort!). We like the Brooks Green Silence! You might try them on and see. They're very comfortable!

Jane - If you ever decide you have too many KB, let me know! LOL! You are the KB Queen! Hope you were able to get your run in today!

Lisa - That's quite a day of working out you had! I'm telling you, gardening is more of a workout some days than people realize! I haven't had a garden in years, but I do remember! I had a hydroponic garden in NC that I loved! I kept in in the screened porch safe from Kittie and the Pups and grew my herbs in it. I can't wait to have a place to set it up again! Unfortunately, it will never happen in this house.

Oh! Lisa, about posting my workouts. If you use Workout Manager, there's a button on the top right for FB. You just click that and set up the link. It's easy! As long as you post your workouts in the WM, they will show up on FB. Everything other than Cathe will show up with a generic icon though. I always add the title in the comments or if I did a SS Run or Interval, etc.

Well, GSCT killed me this morning! Wow! I started out with 20 lbs. like Cathe was using, thinking I could handle that. Yeah, right. I ended up at 12 lbs. by the end of the chest workout and 5 lbs. by the end of the tricep kickbacks! So much for keeping up! My arms were shaking so badly, I could hardly do the cross body kicks! I love those too! We'll see how I feel tomorrow. So far, no soreness today in the chest or tris, but that tends to sneak up on me, especially in the chest!

Tomorrow is PS - Strong Legs & Abs. Haven't done this one before! Okay, give me the lowdown. I suppose I should get off my bum now and go start some dinner!

Thanks Jane - so I have another question. What I noticed in Bob's workouts is that he has a lot of moves where you are down, then up - like the super burpee or just walk out, then back and jump, etc. One of the workouts you do some moves like a burbee, then pick up weights and go right into overhead presses.

That up and down/lower body-upper body stuff makes me very lightheaded. I've experienced the same thing with kettlebell workouts - I think the blood can't move from my legs to my head fast enough! I have low blood pressure but I'm wondering does that feeling go away if you keep wth this type of workout? Have you ever experienced that?

Hi Cindi,

I know that some people are very sensitive to the up and down movement of some exercises but I have never experienced that before. It makes sense that your low blood pressure may have something to do with you feeling lightheaded. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Good Morning!

I got my run in yesterday! Yay!! Despite the 100+ heat index, I felt really good for most of the run. I took it real easy though. I actually find it more pleasant to run with the heat then heat and humidity. The humidity really saps my energy.

I'm taking a rest day today.

My sister got my big Bertha kettlebell yesterday but she won't let me see it. I told her I didn't want to lift it, just see it but she didn't cave. I asked her how big is it and she said BIG!!I have to wait until late August to get it. :(:(

Lisa ~ Gardening is definitely a workout.

Tricia ~ How are your tris and chest feeling today? That is one killer workout. I love it though. I always get DOMS 24 hours after my workout.

Hi Alisha!

I'll try and pop back later in the day. There's only 3 people in the office today and it's really quiet and slow.

Big Bertha Kettlebell - funny! You have to take a picture! And thanks for answering my question - I think it is something that may get better with exposure but probably something I won't ever avoid entirely.

Tricia - thanks for the shoe suggestion.

Lisa - gardening is hard work. I'm no good at it but I would have helped you! I love fresh strawberries.

Hi Alisha!

Well ladies - we are out for vacation starting today - I'll be back in a week.

joggle

If you joggle in the woods and no one is there, are the calories still burned?

Ponder that.

I'm about to go on an interval joggle, then its some easy yoga, and shower max (otherwise its gross max:eek:) All day I will be on the computer crossing my eyes to the max and in the afternoon is Video-The-Drying-Paint-Max. Its more fun than it sounds. I will probably go see Toy Story with my Mom in the afternoon.

Hi everybody!

Jane - It's so exciting about Big Bertha! LOL! I can't wait to see it! Don't worry August will be here before you know it! Glad you were able to get a run in. I can't stand the heat anymore! Good for you getting out there! Tris and chest started hurting last night. Today - youch! I really feel them today!

Cindi - Have a wonderful vacation!

Alisha - I'm so jealous! I've heard TS3 is wonderful! Enjoy it!

Hmmm, joggle . . . no one there . . . calories . . . I'd say yep! As many as you want to have burned! LOL! Hope you had a good IJ and had fun videoing the drying paint!

I'm supposed to do GSBSB tomorrow, but we're running in the morning and have to be in Portsmouth by 3 p.m. for the polo outing! I'm so excited! Going to move my w/o to Sunday since Stephen will be golfing. I've never seen a real polo match! We'll leave here around 2:15, taking our picnic basket with a bottle of wine and some mojitos. The office is providing all the food and regular drinks and paying for us to get in. We get to park right at the edge of the field! I just hope we don't get rained on!

I was going to make a healthy breakfast tomorrow morning since we were going to have grilled burgers, cookies, etc. tomorrow afternoon, but Stephen wants chunky monkey pancakes! I've created a monster! They were so delicious last weekend!

Hi Lisa! How has your Friday been?

Everyone have a great weekend!

mmmm pancakes

Well, I won against the brownie last night only to indulge this morning. But, hey I figure better to have a salad for dinner last night and a brownie for breakfast. I'm putting them in the freezer so that I can stay on my eating plan. I'm planning on a step workout later today. We are going to the movies this morning, the time was misreported on Fandango.

Tricia- I have never been to a polo match. I think that sounds like a fabulous photographic opportunity, take a camera.

Cindi- I have trouble with up/down stuff too. My doctor told me to drink gatorade but I can't because it gives me migraines (dyes.) but what I do is put a little extra iodized salt and potassium (salt substitute) on my food and drink extra water. That seems to help a little. Low intensity, long easy workouts (walking for an hour) seem, according to Runner's World, to help with blood volume where the interval workouts lower blood volume and thereby lower blood pressure which can cause the light headedness.

Lisa- How is it going?

Hi everybody, have a great weekend!

Hey Alisha!

I ate way too much of those chunky monkey pancakes this morning! I'm stuffed! Ate well last night - seared scallops with blackberry chipotle sauce over couscous. It was absolutely delicious! Have fun at the movies!

Don't worry about the brownie, at least you have time to work it off today!

I did 6.2 miles this morning! I ran most of it this time, but it got hot towards the last couple of miles. It got tough and I still couldn't make it up that steep hill!

Everyone have a great Saturday!

Hi Everyone,

I did the bicep and tricep sections of the Gym Style Series and then swam 160 laps. I'm so sore.

Tricia ~ Have fun at the polo match. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Cindi ~ Have fun on vacation.

Alisha ~ You'll burn that brownie off with your step workout. No worries!

Hi Lisa!

Hope everyone has a great day!

I did Step Moves. Yippee. Thats 5 workouts this week plus two yoga sessions. I'm finally getting back into my rotation. I haven't been able to finish a 5 workout week since last year at this time. :D

Hi ladies,
Wow, everyone's been working out hard!

Jane - The combination of GS and swimming sounds brutal. So does Big Bertha for that matter.

Alisha - Congratulations on getting in 5 workouts and 2 joggles. Getting back into the routine is so hard.

Tricia - Great job on your run! I hope you enjoy the polo match. Where exactly is it? Thanks for the input. I haven't used the workout manager. I might need to try it if I can post it to fb :)

Cindi - Enjoy your vacation!

I did BBL Sculpt on Friday and then walked the dogs for two miles. Today I did BBL High and Tight.

Lisa

Hi Ladies!

Alisha - Good for you! That's quite an accomplishment to get back up to a five-day workout week!

Lisa - I'm supposed to do GS BSB today, but I have an off day on Monday and don't really want to get into the habit of not getting up, so I may take today off and do it tomorrow. Besides, my tris are STILL sore! LOL! I have to make sure I won't put 2 upper body days back to back before doing that, so I'll check my schuedule in a minute.

Polo was fabulous! We got there around 2:30 (half an hour early) and it was a good thing, too! There were already cars pulled up all around the field with only a few spaces left, so we took one of those and held onto one more beside us. One of the attorneys was supposed to be there early and he was running late. We managed to all get there and get set up and we had grilled burgers, hot dogs, sausages, chicken, steak teriyaki. He grilled mushrooms and onions and peppers, had poppers and wings. It was quite a spread!

The horses come right over the 6" "wall" when the ball hits the rail there! It's quite exciting! There were 6 chukkas (like quarters in football) that were 7 minutes each. In the middle, they take a longer break and the audience comes in and stomps the divots! It's not hard to follow except that after each goal(?), they switch sides, so the opposing team could very well be scoring into the same place. The horses were beautiful and they changed them out quite frequently.

I will certainly be attending again! USA plays England in September. These are actually professional teams that play around the world. I'd like to go to that one! The match we saw was with two local teams, Newport and Pawtuxet. It was great because they have men and women on the same team and I have to tell you, one of the women was quite the player! She scored the first point for Pawtuxet and was pretty dominant.

The complex is in Portsmouth which is on Aquidneck Island just outside of Newport.

Helloes to Jane! I hope Cindi's vacation is going great!

Hi Everyone!

I got up early and did a 5 mile run with my sister. With about 1 1/2 miles to go my sister fell. She got scraped up quite a bit but no sprained ankle. She ran for a little bit but her leg was bleeding quite a bit. I left her at the park and ran the mile and 1/2 back to the car and then went to pick her up. I pretended she was in serious trouble and ran really good and fast back to the car.:eek:

Then I came home and did the back and shoulders from Cathe's Gym Style.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you had a great time at the polo match. It sounds like it's very interesting and fun to watch.

Alisha ~ Congrats on finishing a 5 workout week!! You rock!!

Hi Lisa and Cindi!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Jane - I hope your sister is okay! Sounds like she's going to be sore for a while, but at least she didn't sprain her ankle or break any bones! That's what I always worry about, especially on the steep downhills on the East side of the city! Ice, ice, ice! I'm sure she knows to do that!

I just finished GS back, shoulders and bis too! Bleh. I'm spent now!

Not ready to go back to work, but at least we have a holiday to look forward to and a short week next week!

Have a great Monday everyone!

Its too darn hot

Change of plans: I'm not going for a jog, I may do some yoga and the boxing STC workout. I'm having a "it was 78 deg. at 5 am Monday."

Good morning,
I didn't work out yesterday. I started Providence but couldn't get into it and stopped. I did some gardening and took yesterday as a rest day. Today I am installing three raised beds at the school and will workout tonight only if I feel like it.
Lisa

Hi Everyone!

This is what I'm doing today. I may tack on some swings if I feel like it.

50 Walking Lunges (each leg)
10 Sit ups
40 Walking Lunges
20 Sit ups
30 Walking Lunges
30 Sit ups
20 Walking Lunges
40 Sit ups
10 Walking Lunges
50 Sit ups

Tricia ~ Yikes...you are going to be sore tomorrow! :) My sister seems to be ok. She definitely has some nice road rash on her knee and palms but she'll live. Incidentally she has been having on and off foot pain for a while and every since the fall, her foot hasn't bothered her. Weird!

Lisa ~ Have fun with your garden workout!

Alisha ~ Enjoy your workout today!

Hi Cindi - Hope you're having fun on vacation!!

Alisha - I don't blame you! We hit 95 degrees today! Humid as all get out! For a moment, just a moment mind you, I thought I was back in GA!

Lisa - Sounds like you got a workout in gardening anyway!

Jane - That looks tough! I'm glad your sister is okay! That is weird that she's not having the foot pain now. Maybe the other has just taken her mind off of it, so she's not noticing it? Or maybe the spill whacked something back into place!

I was able to do more weight today than last time on the shoulders and biceps, but backed off the weight for the back just a tad this time. We'll see . . . It's KPC tomorrow which I need! I feel like I'm not getting as much cardio in as I used to! I'm trying to keep thinking that if I get my muscle mass up, that'll do just as well as all that cardio I used to do. I'm trying! Sticking to the rotations to see what happens!

Not much else going on. DH has another phone interview (I hate those things!) tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. They tend to talk on the phone and then never call back or e-mail. Why are companies doing that now instead of face-to-face interviews? It seems like you don't get as much information that way. You get a lot from how a person carries themselves and their body language that you can't get over the phone. Well, at least it's an interview, I guess. I'm getting tired of getting excited only to be so disappointed.

Wish him luck!

step to the left step to the right

Its going to be Step Max later in the afternoon. I'm spending the day on the computer editing video.

Tricia- I'm crossing my fingers, I hope your DH gets the best job ever!

Lisa- I think that gardening qualifies as a workout.

Jane- I hope your sister is feeling better. I did the road rash thing as a kid more than once and it hurts.

Cindi- Hi!
