New Runners June 2010

Hi ladies,
I didn't wind up running - I had a headache. Today I drove up to WV to see my family so no workout. I did bring my kb though and BBL so should workout tomorrow and Sunday.

I think the idea of getting together for a race somewhere is fabulous!! But then I realized I don't remember where we are all from and couldn't figure out where the middle would be. I'm in NC (alternating between western NC and eastern NC). I love the Cooper River Bridge 10K in Charleston, SC but that might be too far for some people. Remind me where you each are from!

Good morning,
I did Providence this am. My parents and I are going to go in to town - we are going to find a new cell phone for me (should I get the cute one with all the features I want or the heavy-duty, military spec, shock and water resistant one?!?), to the shooting range (Mom will pass on this), and lunch out at Black Bear Burritoes (YUMMY!!).

Jane - I hope you're IT issue is resolved in time for race day! Keep up the stretching and rolling! How did your test run go?

Alisha - Did you get your walk in yesterday? You must be feeling better! Dim Sum, yum!

Cindi - My condolences on the loss of your co-worker. It's so difficult when someone passes like that. we lost 2 co-workers to cancer, one the year after the other. Enjoy your run today! Wow! Your race is next weekend! That crept up fast! You know we'll all be cheering for you! Enjoy Chicago!

Lisa - I've had headaches every afternoon this past week! It must be something in the air! It's getting rather annoying too! Sounds like a fun day today for you!

We had horrible thunderstorms this morning! Power was on and off for a little while and my Peanut was scared. They're crashed on the couch now. It's so muggy and hot today! I still have to get my workout in later - GSCT. I don't think I'll be getting the second half in today - a 20 minute brisk walk. If the weather's better tomorrow, Stephen and I will go for a run. Just have to wait it out. Of course, it's going to be sunny all week . . . while I'm at work. Rain all weekend. Figures. That's how we spent last summer. I hope that changes!

Hi All,

I didn't go on my run yesterday. I went to visit mom instead. She needs to have a tooth pulled so her chemo treatments are on hold until she gets that taken care of. She was a little down yesterday but is doing better today.

This is the workout I did today. I didn't want to go running but it was storming on and off all day today. I did this workout in my backyard. It was extremely humid outside but I got it done. My leg felt really good. I continue to stretch and roll at least 2 times a day.

Barbell Thrusters
Deadlifts
Squats
Swings
Walking Lunges
Anchored Sit ups
After uneven rounds do 4 burpees

Cindi ~ I'm sorry to hear about your co-worker. That is tough!

I did get a run yesterday. Today is weed eating. Its finally sunny and starting to warm up. Yippee!

Hi Janie - Cooper River Bridge? Where is that? I'm guessing Cooper Tire is still operating in Albany.

Hi Alisha - Good for you getting your run in! I ended up taking my rest day yesterday. The thunderstorms were too bad to try to get outside. Also, it was way too humid.

I can't believe I'm not tolerating the heat and humidity like I used to. I guess the acclimation period is 7 years! LOL!

Today we're running up to the Ikea store to look for some lamps. I really need to get my chest and tricep work done today. Weekends are so hard for me to be diligent!
 
This morning I did High and Tight and then my mom, sister and I took all the dogs for walk. Since one of my mom's dogs is at cattledog training camp, we had three ladies and just six dogs :).

Tricia - The Cooper River Bridge 10K is in Charleston, SC. It's a very nice race - I've run it twice.

Jane - I'm always looking for people who want to do it with me next year ;).

I've been having a lot of chronic, low grade headaches lately. I guess I need to get it checked out at some point.

Lisa - The headaches may just be allergy related, but it never hurts to get it checked! You just never know and we want you around for a long time! Could be a precursor to migraines and you don't want those!

Ah! That's one we might could manage. I'll check it out! It just sounded like it was related to Cooper Tire down in Albany GA! LOL!
 
Lisa- the headaches could be a zinc deficiency. Get your hormones checked too. Also, the wrong balance in salts can give a dehydration headache and once that has started it hurts real bad.

Today is a yoga day. Woo hoo.
 
Hi ladies! Ran 6 miles yesterday. Rest today. I'll do a short run tomorrow and cross train wed. Thursday will be a rest day then I start the relay on Friday!

I'm running tonight no matter what, I swear. LOL! Yesterday we had on and off rain and thunder.

This is what I did yesterday:

25-50-75 reps of:
Squats
Swings
Jumping Pull ups
Sit ups

Lisa ~ I have the Cooper Bridge Race on my calendar for next year. It's April 2! It would be great to do it together. Hope your headaches go away.

Did Gym Styles Legs this morning! Ouch! Tomorrow is 4DS Bootcamp. I get to finally do the whole thing! Looks tough! I previewed it after getting home from work! I still haven't gone up to change out of my work clothes yet! That's what happens when I get on the computer first! Guess I'd better get moving!
 
Hi Everyone,

I went running last night! Woo Hoo! It was a gorgeous evening - hot but not humid. I only ran 3 miles but my leg felt good. It felt tight at times but felt better the longer I ran. I rolled before I went out and when I got back and did a good stretch later in the evening.

Tonight I'm going swimming. I'm going for 100 laps tonight. No rain is expected.

Alisha/Tricia - Got it! :D Rubber hat for lightening and tin foil for UFOs!! :p

Tricia - Good job with Gym Style Legs. That is one TOUGH workout!! I love the 4DS. I would do the boot camp/kickbox workouts back to back. Lots of sweat and fun. I love the weight work in that series.

Cindi - I'm so excited for your relay. I can't wait to hear all about it.

Jane- Copper helmet for telepathic death rays (I got that one from Uncle Felix.)

I went for a jog/hike this morning. I only put in about 35 minutes (I don't count the warm up/cool down bit.) The weather has finally turned into summer. My cousin graduated from Cal Poly and is having a barbecue next week so I will be heading down to San Luis Obispo for the weekend.

I had a great time in WVa with the family. I did High and Tight on Sunday (can't remember when I posted last or bother to look it up :)). I drove home yesterday so no workout. This morning I did AOS Brooklyn and this afternoon it is Dog Walk Max with the bonus workout Puppy Class Bootcamp and the bonus bonus workout Agility Class Circuit depending on what the vet okays for Miss Piplet.

Jane ~ That's great! Have you run it before? Does anyone else want to do the Cooper River Bridge 10K? I'd love to make it a group thing. I didn't run it this year. I hope the rubber hat worked out for you :D.

Tricia ~ do you think you could make it? Maybe we could split a hotel room and make a weekend out of it? Just thinking out loud. I usually run it alone so I just come down the evening before and leave after lunch.

Alisha ~ Have fun in San Luis Obispo! I have friends from there. It sounds beautiful.

I don't know what to think about the headaches. I get migraines but these are different. They are more like tension/sinus/something headaches. The funny thing is we had popcorn for dinner Sunday night (great family tradition!) and I woke up feeling great Monday morning after two days of headaches. I know that hydration/salt balance is important in managing my migraines but I still thought that was kind of weird - the sodium seemed to have helped.

Hi Jane! Glad the run felt good and your leg was better! I have GOT to get me one of those foam rollers! They sound pretty awesome from what everyone says!

Alisha - I didn't know about the copper helmet - guess I better get one of those, too!

Lisa - You have a busy schedule today! Hmmm, I'd love to do a race together! A lot could happen between now and April. If DH could find a job, I could easily say yes, but at the moment, it's going to have to be maybe! I'd love to do it though! Let's keep that one in mind and see what develops. Don't let me forget!

It's nice to come home and be able to just kick my shoes off and relax a bit before getting dinner and stuff going! Ah! I'm saying this because I had such a hard time getting up this morning for my workout. I made it though! Went through my "need a siesta" period around 3 p.m. (that happens when I don't rest enough the night before)! Got my second wind around 4. Now, I feel great and don't need that nap, darn it! I may get one a little bit later!

Anyway, BC is done and it's another one of the 4DS tomorrow, can't remember which one though. Let's see what other body parts I can get DOMS in for the week! LOL!

Today I have some yoga on schedule for lunch time and before dinner is Step Heat. I bought some fun blue potatos and an eggplant the other day from the co-op. I plan to make some eggplant parm for dinner. yum yum yum:p

Tricia- yOu can just use a copper collander. Those are easy to find.

Jane- Hi!

Lisa- I like the Dog Walk Max. Sodium is critical to maintaining hydration, you can't keep fluid in your body without it, otherwise it just drains away.
