NEW RUNNERS JULY 2010!

Running always made me wish I had a dog. The cats won't run - stubborn! :)

No miles for me today either Lisa. But I'm working out my nose blowing it constantly. ;) I think the cold is working it's way out. That shoulder workouts sounds fun!

Tricia - I like Geeks who also Joggle - makes me smile.

Hi Jane and Alisha! Oh - Alisha I stumbled across a PB cookie recipe that is gluten free and thought of you, my favorite gluten free eater.

1 c. organic peanut butter (can use creamy or chunky)
1 egg
1/2 c. raw sugar (can use white)
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla extract
mix together and bake at 350 until brown on edges.

I made zucchini bread the other day - my CSA gave me pounds and pounds of squash and zucchini so I made a big pot of squash soup and two loves of zucchini bread. I still have more in the fridge too - I'm going to have to start giving bread to the neighbors.

Hi Friends,

Here is my workout for this evening. I'm doing this workout with my sisters. One of us will do the workout below (twice) while the other 2 will do other exercises (jump rope, ball slams, etc). When the person running the course is done, we will switch. We'll do this for about 30 minutes.

1.Clean a kettlebell to your shoulder and quickly walk to the 10-yard line. Put the bell down, sprint back to the goal line.
2.Clean the 2nd bell and quickly walk to the 20-yard line (“leapfrogging” the 1st bell). Put the bell down, sprint back to the goal line.
3.Sprint to the 10-yard line and clean the 1st bell. Quickly carry it to the 30-yard line (“leapfrogging” the 2nd bell). Put the bell down, sprint back to the goal line.
4.Sprint to the 20-yard line, clean the bell, and quickly walk to the 40-yard line. Put the bell down, sprint back to the goal line.
5.Sprint to the 30-yard line, clean the bell and quickly carry it the final 10 yards.
Do all this with you right arm. Repeat the sequence with your left arm. That’s one set.

Cindi ~ Take care of yourself! My thoughts are with you are Pete. I know what he is going through after taking care of my aunt's estate after her death and also dealing with issues with my dad.

I think your are making a very wise decision regarding your heel. You have a great plan in place and will still be able to workout. That is the most important. You'll be back to TF and running in no time at all.

Lisa ~ I enjoyed reading about you and your dad's rescue of the gull. What a wonderful memory that you have about your dad. Great shoulder workout!! ;)

Tricia ~ I think I'm getting used to the heat. The humidity has been under 50% so it's just heat. I know exactly when I have to pack it up and head inside. Last night I had finished the workout and was showing my sisters what I wanted to do tonight (see above) and it took me one round to know that I was done.

Your doggies sound so sweet. We have a new neighbor that has 2 big dogs (not sure of the breed). My sister wants to ask her if she can good running with them. The lady only walks them and you can tell she is struggling with both of them. I think they really want to run.

Good job with Gym Styles Legs. That is a long and tough workout. I'm not sure what the drama was all about with Bodyrock. I have seen myomytv and like the workouts she does.

Alisha ~ Hi!! What's on tap for today?

I think that anything with "Joggle" in it works just fine

Step Max is on schedule. I had intended to run yesterday but I felt poorly so I took a rest day instead. I can't joggle today because its trash day and I hate stinky cans. :p As of today I'm switching over from my fiber brownies to a little psyllium in seltzer water with lemon juice, that will have less carbs/simple sugars and I really want to keep things as clean as possible except for my planned off meals (dim sum on Saturday.) Last night was Harry Potter club and several of our members went to FL for the great opening of the Harry Potter World at Universal, they brought lots of pictures and I really wished that I had the money to have gone and seen Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and the rock and roll group "Harry and the Potters". They had magic wands for sale! So, I am officially saving up money to go to Universal. I don't know how long this will take, but by hook or by crook, I will go probably in two years.

I was good last night. I had this arborio rice risotto with grilled chicken. It was great and I only ate about half. That had more carbs than I usually eat but I had been good all day and had a home cooked chicken salad with 1 c. of cherries for lunch. In other words, I'm improving.

It kind of feels like fall. The light has changed around here and it seemed darker due to the grass fires up in Kent County.

Cindi- The food sounds great. I will have to try that cookie recipe! Give Pete lots of love for me.

Jane- that sounds like a killer workout.

Lisa- What a great story about your Dad.

Tricia- Whoa, you must be so strong to be able to match the crew's weights on GS legs, my legs quiver like chihuahuas just thinking about it.

Is it just me or does Step Max kind of sneak up on you? In that first section, I was thinking I could do this on 8 inches but then section two is just right and she just gets you with that last section with all those plyos. And of course, after you think your all done, then you have to do it to the other side. We need a smiley thats all red in the face and dripping with sweat.

Hi Everyone!

Cindi - That PB Cookie recipe looks scrumptious! I looooove PBCs! Glad your cold is almost gone! I've never made zucchini bread. Sounds interesting. I may have to try it!

Jane - That workout looks hard! Made me think of Cathe, "What you do to one side, you have to do to the other!" Yep, hot is tolerable as long as the humidity is down and I can breathe! I know what you mean about the myomytv workouts! I did one of hers this morning! Well, I'm not going to worry over it. I like her stuff and I'm going to use it!

Alisha - I can't remember the last time I did Step Max. Maybe back in the early spring! Wow that seems so long ago! Who knows, maybe you'll get to Universal sooner than that! If the economy continues like this, airfare will go down and prices will drop too!

GS Legs was awesome! My legs are strong, but my issue is that I can't lift a bar heavier than 40 lbs. over my head and I can barely manage that! I really need to either get a small/portable squat rack or the adjustable weighted vest - or both! They are on my wish list! I was determined to do it, too, so I pushed through!

Here's what I did this morning (in the style of Jane):

Fighting the Fat - Killer Full Body Workout

4 Rounds of 5 exercises 45/15 sec work to rest

Ex 1: Dynamic Squat & Lunge Jumps
Ex 2: Reptile Pushups (I think Cathe calls them Spiderman pushups)
Ex 3: KB (DB) Deadlift Thrusters
Ex 4: KB (DB) Renegade Rows
Ex 5: DB (DB) Alternating Swings

I liked it! I'm still having issues with the whole time thing. I'm getting these done in about 20 minutes and I feel like I should be working out longer. I'm determined to give it a good 6 weeks or so to see if I get any better results.

Catch up again later! It's dinner time!

Hello Lisa! Have anymore B&J Triple Caramel Chunk?

Tricia - you must have smelled me lurking!! I was just checking the thread and eating some TCC at the same time . More than a little hypocritical I know. I walked ~3 miles with the dogs today and went up to Manteo to deal with a traffic ticket.

Lisa

Bwaaa, haaaa, haaaa! I knew it! :p

I guess I forgot to mention that I'm psychic? ;)

Ugh. Sorry you got a ticket. DH got one Monday night about 1 1/2 miles from home. Luckily, all he has to do is show up in court and it doesn't go on his record because he hasn't had a ticket in the last 3 years. It happened at a spot that has no sign indicating a change in speed.

Oh, well! I'll let you know my review of it once i find some!

Alright, I've had a crazy day but I wanted to check in very quickly. I rode for fun this morning, worked on getting Chippy in the trailer, and then spent the rest of the day trying to keep a friend's horse from dying. Long story short, I'm hoping he makes it through the night to see a vet tomorrow but he's much more stable now.

I did Providence last night. Woo hoo. Love that workout. It was a nice change from my current rotation (riding/swimming/drinking).

I got the ticket dealt with but it took a lot longer than it needed to and no one was helpful except for my attorney.

Tricia - you are psychic! I will no longer eat ice cream while checking Cathe, only while catching up on FB.

Thanks to everyone who liked my gull story. My dad is pretty great. I called him today for advice and realized again just how incredible he is. Gotta love Dad.

Sorry but I have to run. I'll do better personals later. Hope everyone is enjoying their workouts.

Lisa

Hi Everyone!

I took a much needed rest day. Whew...it was another hot one today. It's after 7pm and still at 99 degrees!!

Tricia ~ I loved your workout. I copied it for future use.

Alisha ~ Good job on Step Max. I am not a stepper. I just don't have the patience for it so kudos to you!

Lisa ~ I hope your friend's horse is ok. You sound like you have a great dad!!! I was lucky that way too!

Hi Cindi!

Lisa - I'll be sending healing energy! He will be strong and healthy again! Don't know if I mentioned it, but I loved the story about saving the gull as well! Anyone who cares enough to help an animal of any kind (except maybe arachnids), is tops on my list! Take care and see you again soon! Drop that spoon Missy! I feel it . . . I said drop it! ; ) LOL!

Jane - Rest days are good. I'm trying to talk myself into taking a couple next week. I know I need them, but the harder I try to convince myself, the more I feel like I won't listen! If you do the workout, let me know your results and what you think about it!

Hello Cindi and Alisha!

Everyone have a great weekend! It's tennis for me tomorrow!

The Rest Day

I love the rest day. Although, it does feel weird. For example, I haven't worked out since this morning and I'm thinking about tomorrow (yeah or nay?) and next week. My left knee felt sort of twingy ( new word) just behind the knee cap. I've never had trouble with my knees and I really don't want to. I've been jogging on a lot of hills and doing high impact step so this next week will be all low impact (as much as I can stand it.) I will just do yoga tomorrow. I did go for a jog this morning, I might do some easy yoga tonight. That ear problem/fever on Tuesday really zapped my energy level. I've been sleeping more than I should normally.

next week's rotation (subject to change without notice.)

Sunday: Step Moves (all low impact modifications.)
Monday: 60 min. hike in my THR + easy yoga
Tuesday: Low Max
Wednesday: 60 min. hike in my THR + easy yoga
Thursday: LIC
Friday: 60 min. hike in my THR + advanced yoga
Saturday: off

Lisa- I love the ice cream. I finished a 1/4 of a pint this morning of Chocolate Rainbow ice cream. The company is out of San Francisco now but my Mom tells me they originally come from River City aka Sacramento (my home town.) Its perfectly acceptable to check in with ice cream breath. I'm sorry about your ticket. I got one in LA for turning left against a light, they only let you turn left there on Saturdays and Sundays. It was Tuesday. I didn't know what day of the week it was.:p

I hope that the horse in question is ok. My neighbors just had to put down their donkey because she had broken both hips, first one and then the other, it was very sad.:( Lol I like your rotation, riding swimming drinking . :D

Mine's videoing, joggling/yoga-ing/stepping, and sleeping a lot.

Tricia- Sometimes if I have a shorter workout I will pair it up with another one in the evening. (not if you don't have the time.) Let us know how your body reacts to those shorter workouts.

Jane- You can't get me to workout in 99 degrees. Not unless you were a lion and you were chasing me. Nope. not doing it.

Hi Cindi!!! I could really go for some zuchinnini (spl? I missed that one in Jr. high and never got into spelling cause of it. ) bread. mmm bread. with walnuts... . . . and butter. . . .

Hi Alisaha!

Twingy knee, huh? My knees get twingy pretty regularly, but I had issues with swelling in my 20s. Docs never found what is was attributable to, so I never really give it any thought anymore! I'm just really careful about form.

Enjoy your rotation this week! It looks great! I also like the secondary rotations!

You guys are killing me with all this ice cream! LOL!

I will keep you posted on the following:

1. How the shorter, higher intensity bodyweight workouts go.
2. If I fall victim to the ice cream vibes you are sending me!

Have a great Saturday!

The Last Dance

Tonight!" sing it with me now. Its the last day of the month. Overall, I've been a little bit remiss with the eats (ice cream) and with the change of medications, I did put on a couple of pounds. (sigh:() We are officially in the second half of the year. Soon, it will be back to school time, I'm not in school anymore but I sure do like the deals on cute pencils, silly erasers and notebooks with flowers or doggies on them. ooh, also butterflies and lady bugs. In the next month I plan to add more healthy fats and I'm not sure if I will be cycling my calories or not. Its not working like it used to and that may be due to my body adjusting to it (too smart, those fat cels are the smartest cels on my body.:p) or if its the new meds. Any hoody who, I will be getting back on the 'scale roller coaster' with the daily weigh ins starting Monday. I used to do that and got out of habit. It works for me cause otherwise I think whats the difference? it will just come off in a day or two. (thats never true its just another situation where my thinking protects my eating.)

I have two more weeks in this current rotation and then I'm going to kick things up a notch. I've posted Aug 1 rotation already and the week after that is a combination of 4DS cardio/CTX cardio and High Step Ckt. I love lifting heavy but my body likes the circuits better. So that means my new rotation will start on Aug. 15.

Here is a sample of what I think I'm going to do. On Joggle days if its too hot I will do HIIT indoors.

Day 1: Cardio Hits, easy yoga
Day 2: Jog, Core Circuit or Circuit Blast
Day 3: Steady State Step (RS or Step Blast), easy yoga
Day 4: Jog, MMA workout
Day 5: Cardio Classics
Day 6: Jog, advanced yoga (includes core/lower body work)
Day 7: off

Don't worry Tricia- I won't mention ice cream for at least a month;)

Alisha - You're too funny! I, too, weigh daily. I know lots of forum members hate that, but for me, it's important. It's too easy to just ignore weight gain unless I see it in numbers. I"m a very visual person! So, I weigh every day to keep myself on track and it works for me. September will be one year on maintenance! I can't believe it! I'm a bit scared. I don't really know what to do with myself from here out. I feel like I have to always have some major project or goal.

I always loved the beginning of school! I liked getting the new notebooks and pencil box, etc.

Good luck with the new rotation!

Aug. 8th is my DH's birthday, so I'll be having sushi (it's what he wants for dinner and I'm not complaining!), cake and ice cream!

I scared the crap out of him this morning when I informed him that I had to back off of the splurging on the weekends. He thought I was going to make him do it too! LOL! It was priceless, the look on his face. I've been lax, A LOT, on weekends and I need to stick to only one splurge meal for the whole weekend.

Okay, I've yammered long enough here!

Helloes to Cindi, Lisa and Jane!

Hi Friends,

I got up and did this workout this morning and then went to mom's and worked in her yard for about an hour. This was a fun workout.

Workout
4x (15 sec work/15 second rest) Mountain Climbers
Then - 2 Rounds
20 Squats
10 Jump Squats
Then - 3 Rounds
Kettlebell Swings Progression

10 reps @ 30#
10 reps @ 35#
10 reps @ 44#
Then - 3 Rounds
Dumbell Complex

6x bicep curls
6x bent over rows
6x upright rows
6x press
6x thrusters
Then - 100 Jump Rope

I don't weigh myself because it would make me crazy but I don't mind if anyone else does. For me it's whatever works. I do a monthly challenge called the "100 challenge" on another forum. You state your goals for the month - for me workout 5 or 6 days a week and eat 5 or 6 healthy meals a day. I allow for 1 cheat meal a week and will take a "free eats day" for holidays or birthdays. You start out the month with 100 points and your goal is to finish the month at 100 points. This has really made me stop and think before I eat something....do I want to take a point for this. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. It works for me.

Alisha ~ You have some great workouts planned for August. I get twingy knees every once in a while. I like doing box jumps but can only do them once a week because I feel it the next day. I also have to watch doing lots of hill runs because sometimes I feel that too. Hope it's feels better!

Tricia ~ Glad to hear your DH is a Leo like me!!

You guys are killing me with the ice cream. I don't allow it in the house. My mom has tons of ice cream. It's always a test of wills in her house.

Well...have to go take a shower as I'm all stinky.

Have a great day!

Love that workout Jane! It's my turn to save one! I think I could actually do this one! I'm not saying that because I think it looks easy, I'm sure it's not! I mean that I could sub a dumbbell for the swings!

Those are some heavy KBs you swing around! I don't know if I could handle that much! Are they one-handed or two-handed? I did some one-handed swings with a dumbbell (very carefully) on Thursday morning! I have to be careful since I workout indoors! Can't be putting a dumbbell through the tv screen!

I really felt those in my hamstrings the next day - me likey very much!

Toodles and go get un-stinkified!
