New Runners February 2010

Lisa - I really have fun at zumba class (mine is on Tuesdays too). Our instructor dims the lights so you can't really see anyone. Sometimes I can barely see what she's doing, but it does help you feel more comfortable. There are some moves I'm just not meant to do, but it's always fun. :)

Jane - enjoy your trip! I'm sorry you had that reaction to the neosporin - sounds like it would sting too.

Ran today - 20 minutes slow, 4x(1K medium, 200m walk), 30' progression run. About 7 miles.

Wow! Lots of activity today! Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I'll let you know how it all turns out on Tuesday!

Alisha - What's that old joke? Doctor, Doctor, it hurts when I do this [insert action here]. Doctor says, "Well, then, don't do that!" Yeah, I know . . .

Good luck with the job hunt!

Cindi - Wow! 7 miles! If I do 4, I think I've done a lot! Good for you and your heel is doing well! Excellent! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way!

Hi Jane! Yikes! I think that's the first time I've heard of anyone reacting to Neosporin! I hope it's better really quickly! Enjoy the beach! Relax and breathe!

Lisa - I can relate to your experience with racquetball! I love it, but I'm no good at it! We haven't played in quite a while - actually since we let our Bally's membership go. Geez, that was about 4 years ago! I always get hit either with a ball or my racket when I play tennis, but I love tennis and it's one of the few sports I'm decent at - not great, just decent.

Enjoy Zumba! It's lots of fun! No worries, not everyone is a Janet Jackson! Most people in class laugh at themselves for their lack of rhythm or coordination, including me! It is fun and you will work up a nice sweat!

Our chimney was fixed and lined today. The heating guys will be here early tomorrow to install the boiler, then we have to wait and see if the City passes it all. I hope all of that will be done tomorrow so we can have our heat back for the weekend! Of course, the temps have been in the low to upper 40's the past couple of days and it's supposed to stay that way for the next week or so. Figures. So, that's where that stands. Saturday, the salvage people will come back for the oil tank. They took the old boiler today. I can't wait to get that tank out! It's huge and takes up a good chunk of storage space in the basement!

Did the first 4 intervals of Low Max tonight and some abs. I love Low Max!!!

I hope everyone has a great night!

Hi ladies. For as much as I talk about my heel - I should start a blog 'Cindi's Heel' :) I think I have found the answer. I posted a long thread on the OD board about my shoes - I don't think the shoes I was wearing was the problem per se, but once I was injured, they were not helping me heal. Now I feel like I have that sorted out. I barely noticed a difference between my too feet/ankles/heels when I woke up this morning. YAY!

Such a relief!

Today is a rest day. I'm making cake for 100 for Sunday. The cakes are made and frozen. I'm going to have to get them out and start frosting tonight. Sunday I'll add the decorations.

Yay, Cindi! Glad your heel problem is resolved!

Wow! You have so much energy! Cake for 100??? I can hardly get going on a cake for two, even when I want to bake! It's weird. I love to cook and bake, but I always have a hard time getting going. Then there are those days when I start in the morning and don't stop cooking all day! Not sure what the difference is.

Well, have fun frosting and decorating! Me, I'm contemplating making pizza tonight. Depends on how I feel after back and biceps tonight!

The sun is shining for the first time in weeks so I am taking the dogs for a walk at the orchard this afternoon. Then its Gym Style Legs at home tonight I think and upper body in the gym tomorrow.

Cindi ~ Cake for 100 is definitely impressive. I love to bake but not on that scale. I have done desserts for receptions and things like that before but get a little overwhelmed.

Tricia ~ Good luck with the heating/chimney! Hopefully it will all go smoothly and be done just in time for the weather to warm up :D

I am horribly incompetent at step but hope that Zumba is a better fit. I only got excited about it after hearing you ladies talk about it here. We'll see how it goes.

Jane ~ I know you guys are going to be together and get away but I hope the sun shines on you and your mom - you all deserve it!

Hi Alisha and Cindy!
Lisa

Hi Lisa!

WE HAVE HEAT! Yay! They finished today. The last two things still to be done are:

1. Removal of the old oil tank (tomorrow)
2. Permitting by the City - to be scheduled by the heating guys for the boiler and the chimney guy for, well, the chimney!

I'm just so relieved to have my regular heating system back! The nice thing is the little maintenance it's going to need compared to our old oil system.

Enjoy the sunshine! Have fun with Zumba, that's the important thing!

Hi All,

I am posting from our beach house. It's beautiful. We are in a secluded oasis surrounded by trees. The sun is shining and it's about 65 degrees. I am going to go running tomorrow.

Cindi ~ Glad you got your heel problem solved.

Tricia ~ Yay for heat!!!

Waves hello to Lisa, Alisha and Cindy!!

I walked 2 miles yesterday with the dogs and then did Providence this morning and we ran 4 miles. The weather was warm and sunny for the first time in weeks and it was fabulous.

I figured out that the problem with my "rotation" isn't the rotation, rather its doing cc on the treadmill. I don't know if its the surface or the fact that I push myself harder on the treadmill than outdoors. Anyway, now that I'm using the elliptical or outdoors for cc I'm doing much better.

Tricia ~ Yay, yay, yay!!! I'm so happy for you. Not having heat is soo frustrating.

Jane ~ Sounds beautiful. Have a great run.

Hi to Alisha, Cindi and Cindy!
Lisa

Lisa - Glad you're having nicer weather! It has helped (not having heat) that it's been a teeny bit warmer! I love not having to worry about my heating system any longer! It's been nerve-wracking for 6 years! No more! Yippee! They have to come in tomorrow and tweak some of the pipe joints. Until it runs a bit, they can't tell where the joints need to be tighter. We have a bit of a leak, but they're coming to fix it up tomorrow.

I tried pullups for the first time on Friday on my new tower! I thought doing them like Brenda and Denise do with the body parallel to the floor would be easier - not! OMG, my triceps and lat muscles are still sore today! I'm actually looking forward to pushups tomorrow! I can do those! LOL! This week is my last week of Meso 2! Yay! When you do the 6 1/2 month rotation, by the end of each Mesocycle, you are soooo ready to move on! I'm looking forward to the rest week! If this weather holds, I'll probably spend it focusing more on my runs and take the dogs for walks, laying off of the step dvds for a bit. Might still do some kickbox! I'm getting to where I really like those!

Anyway, enjoy the warm weather!

They offer a Zumba class on Tuesday nights and I'm excited to try that out. I have a tendency to have two left feet though.

Alisha ~ So sorry to hear about your job! Let us know what your Plan B thoughts are.

Dance classes are fun anyway!

Plan B: Stand on the street corner with my fiddle and play until someone gives me money to shut up!

Today was my day off, it was also my cheat day. I have discovered a gluten free brownie mix from Trader Joe's, and it was good. It was good for breakfast!

Okay, what's with the brownies for breakfast this weekend? You're the second person I know who had delicious brownies for breakfast! No one invited me! I'm going to cry! LOL!

Yummy!

I like your Plan B Alisha! Who knows? People do get discovered that way!

Mmm, brownies for breakfast is fabulous. Second only to apple pie for breakfast. Well, maybe its a tie - they both make a great breakfast. :D

Hi ladies!

The cake is made and served, it turned out great and people loved it. Honestly though it doesn't take much to impress people when they are used to cakes from the grocery store bakery with that plastic/shortening frosting. GROSS. Put some real butter and eggs in a recipe and they are in love. :)

I gave up sweets for lent but luckily Sunday's aren't part of lent so I was able to have some cake yesterday! (I know that may be strange to some - I don't know who here is Christian and recognizes Lent, but at my church, the 40 days of lent do not include Sundays. Sundays are break days from your Lenten commitment. So even though I gave up sweets for Lent, I can have sweets on Sundays during the Lent period).

Ran 7 miles yesterday.

Jane - The beach sounds wonderful!

Tricia - yay warmth! I know what you mean about pull ups on the tower. I use the Lebert Equalizer and the look easy but they are not (at least for me). I don't know how I could ever to a 'real' pull up.

Lisa - Glad you found the answer for your rotation.

Alisha - those brownies sound good. I saw Starbucks now has healthy cookies (pre-packaged) that are gluten free. And we had Crab Cakes from Whole Foods the other day that were gluten free. Funny how now I notice these things.

Brownies for breakfast sounds so good - but they have to be cold out of the fridge, and super fudgy!

My DH won't eat pie either! So, seeing how I love pie, I never bake it because we all know I would eat the whole thing! So, not fair. I keep threatening to bake one anyway, but keep talking myself out of it!

Cindi, I could never break lent for a day for sweets! I would fall right off the wagon! That takes tons of will power! I don't do anything for lent anymore. Not since I gave up chocolate and immediately after lent and having just a bit of chocolate, I ended up in the Emergency Room with serious abdominal pain and had to have my gall bladder removed! Probably not medically related, but definitely psychologically related!
