New Runners February 2010

Hi ladies!

Tricia - I would call about that sore arm. Seems strange it still hurts.

Jane - I should get Katherine's book and read it beforehand. Hope you enjoyed family time in honor of your Dad last night.

Alisha - glad your knee is feeling better.

My heel is feeling better again, but the thing comes and goes. I played around with an old pair of running shoes last night. I think the padding in the heel area pushes on the tender part of my heel and makes it flare up. So I cut out the padding and ran a couple miles on the treadmill. That seemed to help. It didn't feel worse after I ran - just felt the same. Then I did Staying Power by Tracie Long - skipped the cardio segements. And did more stretching and icing. And took some Aleve before bed. It felt pretty good this morning - I would say a 2-3 on a scale of 1-10.

I'll ice a couple times today and run tonight along with Zumba and see how that goes. I think I'm going to take my 'modified' shoes and run with them. I want to be sure that will help before I start modifying my new shoes!

Good morning ladies,
I didn't get on the treadmill Sunday night. I was just too tired. I did CC V2 at the orchard yesterday with the pups and my new pair of running shoes - woo hoo! I love a new pair of shoes. I did Providence this morning. I'm going to take the dogs for a walk this afternoon if the weather isn't bad.

Cindi ~ I did pool running during physical therapy once and really loved it (lost a lot of weight too! excellent calorie burn). I used the belt and did it in the deep end. There was a section on pool running in January's Runner's World too.

Tricia ~ Hope your arm feels better soon. I hate that sort of thing. It's not really an injury but it slows you down anyway. I often find that more frustrating than a more major injury.

Jane ~ I hope you all had a great dinner together!

Alisha ~ Hi! How are you doing?

Lisa

I'm taking it easy. I will do some yoga today. Tomorrow might be a hike depending on the weather. Thursday is gonna be some yoga. Friday a hike on the beach. I'm working on planning my eats options and workouts for Macworld this weekend. We are leaving on Thursday morning and will be attending training sessions through Saturday afternoon. I'm taking my mom, we will be staying in Pacifica on the beach. I love it there. Even when its drizzling its beautiful. There are always people with their dogs and surfers. Why they want to surf in the icy cold pacific, idk. But, there they are out there with the sharks

Jane- Hi!

Lisa- I love new running shoes too, I especially like new socks!

Tricia- I hope your arm feels better soon.

Cindi- I hope things go well for Honor at her recital/contest. I haven't tried the pool running but I have heard that the pool is really good for your body. I hope your heal feels better soon.

Sydney- Hi! I think i sense you lurking, but thats ok, its allowed;)

Cindi - I'm glad your heel seems to be getting better! Zumba! I love Zumba!

Lisa - How wonderful to run in the orchard and new shoes, too! Woo-hoo! Sounds like a lovely time!

Alisha - Sounds like a good plan! I've never been to Pacifica, but it would wonderful! I'm finding out that surfers are a lot like golfers - obsessed!

I did call my doctor's office about the arm. Didn't seem to make sense to go in even though they offered me an appointment. There's no heat, redness or swelling, so there's really nothing for them to "look" at. I haven't tried heat and anti-inflammatories, which they recommended, so I decided I'd try that for a while first. I also have an active rest week coming in 2 1/2 weeks, so maybe it's just that I haven't given it the time to recover. We'll see and go from there.

Ended up not doing my cardio tonight, too bummed out. Our heat went out yesterday. The repair guys came today and basically, it's dead. So, here we are, snow storm coming in tonight and a heating company coming on Thursday to give us a quote on switching from oil heat to a natural gas system. It would take 7-10 days just for them to get the parts in, so we're pretty much looking at about 2-3 weeks without serious heat. At least we have a few space heaters!

I just don't want to know what's coming next!

Tricia thats terrible. Do you have electric blankets? Those can make a big difference even if you just run them before you get into bed and then turn them off.

Nope. The electrical system in this house is as old as the house (100 yrs.), so we don't have any. We do have the 50 afghans I've crocheted over the last few years (it's all I can crochet ) and our bed is a Tempurpedic so it warms right up with our body heat. We don't need too many blankets. Hopefully, we'll have something within the next few weeks - just in time for Spring!

Hi Everyone!

I didn't workout last night. Too tired and didn't feel good. Tonight I plan on going for a run unless it's too cold (I'm such a baby) or will do something with kettlebells.

Tricia ~ So sorry to hear about your heating issues. Stay warm as best you can.

Cindi ~ Glad your heel is getting better. Maybe it would better not to read her book first. The stories may be better hearing them directly from her. The book is good though. She really did a great job in advancing the sport for women.

Alisha ~I hope you get your hike in today.

Hi Lisa!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Good point Jane. Last year they speaker was Bart Yasso and I had just read his book so he didn't say anything I hadn't already read. I'll wait.

Tricia - Stay warm - hope your arm feels better.

Went running last night - the doctored shoes didn't really help. My heel hurts a lot today. I'm just going to take the rest of the week off and give it lots of rest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE) and regular doses of ibuprofen. I still have enough time before the marathon that I won't be set back by a week off and better I take the hit now then in a month. Plus - I have a chest cold and keep coughing all night. My husband was ready to put me in the car and drive me to the Dr. this morning to get me fixed up. Really I feel fine, it's just after exercise and when I lay down - I just start coughing.

Lisa - Hope you're feeling better today and cant get a run in!

Cindi - Smart girl! Get that heel feeling better before you hit the road again! Hope your cold gets better, too, without the need for the doctor!

thanks Tricia. The cold has broken loose - so to speak. Lots of nose blowing yesterday so things are better on that front. Only a little coughing when I first went to bed and then sleeping was good.

Heel feels better but I'm not running yet - giving it more time.

Hi Everyone!

I ran yesterday and felt great. I wore my hat and gloves and went out there in the cold wind. Ok....it was only 45 but way down here - that's cold! Anyway it was a great run.

Here is my workout for today:
2x2 = Hell
Complete 2 minutes of each exercise followed by one minute of rest in between each exercise. Choose any order you prefer to complete the exercise. Do 2 rounds!
Squats
Sit ups
Pull ups
Push ups
Jump Rope
Supermans
Box Jumps
Broad Jumps
Ball Slams
Squat Thrusts

Cindi ~ I'm glad your cold and heel are doing better. Good job on waiting longer to run. Better to be safe than sorry.

Tricia ~ How is your arm?

Waving hi to Lisa and Alisha.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Wow, Jane! That does sound like a workout from Hell! Must be awesome though! What are broad jumps? And, are squat thrusts the same as plyo squats? Just wondering. This looks like something I could use on one of my active rest days!

The arm is the same, but I haven't really been following the heat/tylenol prescription very closely. I'm really going to hit during my rest week, which I have in 2 weeks.

Cindi - Glad the cold is breaking out! The weather should be better by the time you're ready to run again!

Oh! DH's back unemployment finally came, so he gave me the ok to order the push/pull tower! I had a 15% off coupon, so it's coming and should be here Monday! I can't wait! It'll make my chest presses easier and I can add some weight!

Tricia ~ Here is a clip of how to do broad jumps. Note - I didn't not jump as far as this guy. Squat Thrusts are like burpees but without the push up in the middle. I always add a jump at the end. I didn't do 2 rounds last night. I only had time for one round. Instead of pull ups I did driveway runs because there was water under the pull up bar. I like these kinds of workouts because you don't have to count reps and you can get lots done in a short amount of time. It's a 30 minute workout (with rests) if you only do it one time.

Albany is suppose to get 1-3 inches of snow today and they have closed the schools. Actually it is suppose to be 39 today so I don't know where how the rain is suppose to freeze when it's not below freezing. LOL!!

Have fun with the push/pull tower. Let me know how you like it.

Hi ladies,
I did Butts and Guts in its entirety yesterday including the floorwork. It was good. Today I'm going to walk or run and if I have time tonight do PUB. I really want to pick up Gym Style Back and Bis so I have another upper body workout but I need to wait until after my next paycheck. I was snowed in on Wednesday and did Ellen's Yogini workout since it was supposed to be a rest day.

Alisha ~ I love new socks too. And I'm oh so picky about socks. I like the no show kind and found a neat pair called FleetFeet (I think) that are no show but have a little tab that sticks up to protect the back of your ankle.

I love my shoes, I've worn Brooks Arenalines for years now, but I wore the old pair so long that its taking a little time to get used to the better support in my new pair.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying warm.
Lisa

I'm in Pacifica

I have travel fit for later today and a hike for tomorrow morning. Yippee! I'm going to Macworld later today. I got to see Kevin Smith (aka Silent Bob) yesterday. It was like I was back in Holly weird :p

Hi everybody!

Jane - Oh! Yes, I do recognize both of those, just never knew the official names for them! Wow! That guy can really jump a long way!

I can't believe my old hometown is got 1-3" of snow! Did they actually get it? I can't wait to get my P/P Tower! It's arrival date is supposed to be Monday, but it was already in Shrewsbury, MA this morning, so I'm hoping (really hoping) it'll actually get here tomorrow! My luck, they'll think they have extra time and will just hold it so it doesn't get here till Monday!

Lisa - I love B&G! Hope you got your run in today! We're supposed to be going tomorrow morning!

Cindi - Glad your heel is better! Keep blowing! It feels better after blowing, doesn't it?

Alisha - My DH and I are jealous that you got to see Kevin Smith! We're huge fans! Have fun at Macworld!

I did a short run last night - only two miles but kept the tempo up despite the snow sticking to my eyelashes. This morning I did the upper body portion of Push/Pull twice. It was a good workout.

I used the workout blender for the first time and really liked it. Is there a way to figure out which dvds have the workout blender? I tried looking on the website at each dvd description and didn't see it listed anywhere. I would definitely be more excited to buy a dvd that had the workout blender than one that doesn't.

Since I'm thinking about dvds, does anyone else have a problem with their Pyramid dvd cracking around the center hold? I do use this dvd a lot but I'm not rough with it and don't understand why it is fally apart. I'll be really frustrated if I wind up having to replace it which will happen eventually.

I'm going to get on the treadmill today. Thinking I'll try CC V6 if I don't weinie out :p. Tomorrow I'm thinking another round of Butts and Guts (I'm trying to resist the urge to buy the Brazilian Butt Lift program - just because it sounds great but the name is so stupid) and then a round of Wood Max.

Tricia ~ How was your run?

Alisha ~ How was your hike? I love hiking!

Cindi ~ Hope you feel better soon.

Jane ~ Sounds like another great workout.

Lisa

Way to go Lisa! I haven't done Vol. 6 yet. Had a great run this morning! We did 3.5 miles. I"m assuming you accessed Workout Blender just on the DVD, not the one that SNM is working on in connection with the downloads, right? I haven't seen that it's up and running yet.

Bummer that your Pyramid DVD is cracking! I've never seen that before. Hopefully, it won't crap out on you for a long time! 2 more weeks of Meso 2! Can't wait for active recovery so I can see if my arm will get better. If it doesn't, I guess it's a visit to the doc! :( I'll scream if they try to tell me that it's my workouts because I know it's not. I wasn't having any problems until that darn injection!

I'm really looking forward to Meso 3, so I have to get this thing cleared up soon!

Running again tomorrow! I love running! :)
