Need help with belly fat

I second the Tosca Reno Eat Clean Diet suggestion!!! I've been doing this for several months, and my stubborn spots are not so stubborn anymore. :) It's not really a "diet" so don't let the name scare you. It's a way of eating, and it makes such a difference. Be prepared to give up some of the things you consider treats, and it isn't always easy to eat clean. Go to www.eatcleandiet.com. There is a wonderful forum, and I have even emailed Tosca several times with questions, and I always get a response from her.

I think the other posts are correct that it's all about what goes into your body. You obviously have the fitness aspect under control, so give this a try and I'll bet you see great results.

I also think that you look great. From my personal experience, eating clean produces the most dramatic results in my Abs. I always exercise consistently but when I eat clean, the six pack appear! Diet is the key (for me ) to great Abs

Hey, Ellie. I admit, first, that I haven't read ALL the posts since the one I originally posted to you. So I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, or if you have. COFFEE! Does that have anything to do with this 'struggle' you're having? Now, I've SEEN you drink your coffee and I've seen HOW MUCH you drink. :p Could this have a side effect of some sort? I'm not a coffee drinker so I can't speak from experience, but it was just a thought.

Gayle

p.s. I'll just tell Cathe to work abs much longer and harder on Monday for ya! ;)

I was thinking about that Gayle

Okay. a little more info about my diet. I LOVE my coffee. I have 3 cups (mugs) in the morning, 3 in the afternoon and a couple in the evening. I use 1/2 regular and 1/2 decaf. I do put sugar and skim milk in.

Is this a BAD thing????

I do drink water all day, just not as much as coffee. And i tend to drink coffe when I am hungry- to help curb my appetite.

Could this be part of the problem????
I'm gonna check the clean eating site to see if coffee is limited.
I may fall asleep while reading since i haven't had my coffee yet today because I did THE VIPER!!!! OUCH

Thanks
ellie

Just be careful if you use some of Tosca's recipes. Some of them are EXTREMELY high in sodium: often more than 1/2 the daily upper limit per serving.

Here are some discussion links about coffee and abdominal fat/bloating...don't know if any have scientific merit (yet), but the theories may be worth reading and considering. The main negative ones seem focused on the increase in cortisol, which supposedly encourages abdominal fat deposits:

"Caffeine, the functional component in coffee elevates the stress hormone, cortisol.... Elevated cortisol levels over an extended period of time increases the deposit of fat in the deep belly area. "
(that is from the third link below)

Interestingly, some studies show that "limited" caffeine can enhance performance/metabolism/weight loss. It certainly couldn't hurt to try your own experiment and reduce or eliminate coffee for a designated test period and see the results (assuming you don't compensate by eating bad food, or stressing from caffeine withdrawal!).

Another thought... the total sugar from all those coffee drinks could be a factor as well.

Sorry about your ity bitty body fat. Whatever, Girl. Your body is rocking.

But, more importantly, where'd you get that adorable top from?

I bought it from Oh My Bod. They had a whole series of Cathe clothes. She wears this in one of her DVD's. I must say, it is one of the most comfortable outfits I own. It has pants too!!!! Check out Oh My Bod

Hey, Ellie. Just had a thought. Why don't you share DH's before picture with us...we can help him too! :p (now, if you tell him I was the one who suggested it, I'll just deny, deny, DENY!)
:D:D:D:D

You look GOOD, girl! And thank you for posting your picture. It's beautiful and I guarantee you there are women here looking at it and working hard hoping they get to the point where that's the only figure 'flaw' they have. (like me...lol) That's such a classic apple shape dilemma: slim & shapely arms with legs to die for, yet we always stress the belly. Cutting the sugar is always good advice but honestly, what's going on with you doesn't look like an excess fat issue to me. I second the book "Mummy Tummy" that Twinkletoes recommended. Look down at your abs next time you do a crunch. Do you get a big bulge just at your navel when you crunch up? That's a diastasis. I didn't have that until after I had my 3rd child. What helps me is to wrap a long scarf around my waist before doing any sort of ab exercise. This belly binding is described as a splint in the book. I dropped the crunches and instead do planks and lots of isometric contractions. I'm also very mindful of when I do twisting moves, making sure to tighten up like I'm bracing for a punch. If a diastasis is what's causing your ab issue, making those changes will show improvement very quickly.

Those ARE some gorgeous legs, though. You probably ought to be giving advice, not getting it. ;)

I hope you don't really have a 'pouch' (as in marsupial). That would be very strange!;);)
You know, the whole time I was growing up every woman I knew with a belly referred to it as a "pouch" as in kangaroo pouch. Then, all the sudden the "pouch" became a "pooch" leaving oldies like me completely confused. While I'd certainly prefer a pooch to a pouch I wouldn't want it attached to my body :p!
