NEAT

NEAT= nonexercise activity thermogenesis

I've been reading about this and I can't believe how low mine is. I kill myself during my workout for 45min to 1 hr and then i literally will sit on my butt for the rest of the day. Now after reading this i'm going to keep moving throughout the day. I think this really makes a difference as NEAT can make up to 30% of energy expenditure for the day. I know many of you got your go wear fit which shocked you by how little you move throughout the day. So how is you NEAT level?

When I'm working at my computer, rather than in meetings, my GWF readings seem to be as low or even lower than when I'm actually *asleep*. :eek: And my auto-sensor light always kicks off on me.

Let me hasten to say I'm not actually asleep, just very focused!

I second that. My calories burned sitting at my desk, watching tv and most of my life is just barely over sleep burn. I burn more calories on a day that I clean the house than a day I do an hour dvd.

Ditto! It's SHOCKING what you can learn from a GWF. Mild-moderate movement throughout the day will burn more than an hour intense exercise.

This makes total sense....15 years ago my job entailed walking around all day. I weighed 122 without any effort, I never exercised at all. That's 10 lbs lighter than I am now, when I do exercise, but I have a desk job.
