My team STINKS!

Ok, I just need to vent a little bit here. I am on a indoor women's volleyball league every Tuesday night. It is fun, and it is great exercise, but we NEVER win! We have lost all our games so far (6). I know I am competive, so that is a problem, but you can only say...
"nice try" so many times without sounding like your getting frusterated! I played in college, so I am used to a higher level of volleyball, and we are playing in the power league, but we just look terrible out there. Anyway, I'm just trying to focus on the good exercise of it all, and the night away (from Ella :) which is nice. Thanks for the vent....I feel a little better now!

Oh Robin, that does stink! Like you, I'm a little on the competitive side so I'd being getting a little frustrated too. So do you have a coach or can you offer to coach since you played in College? Perhaps that's what you need to bring your team up a notch. It would probably motivate everyone if you won one!

Hey Robin!

I can't help you out here because I'm the exact opposite of you (sooo NOT competative-probably cause I STINK at sports! LOL) and used to avoid team sports like the plague in school b/c I hated feeling like the team was mad at me if I did badly. :-(

I would have hated to have you in my gym class!:p LOL

That being said, it's still no fun to lose all of the time. Hope you win a few games soon!!!:+

Hi Robin, I know how you feel. I played v-ball on a YMCA team a few years ago that stunk too. I switched to a much more competitive group and had more fun. Winning isn't every thing, but it's nice. I played intramural V-all at a Penn State branch campus and got a jacket and everything. I like to tell people I played for Penn State. They think I mean the real-thing varsity team. Heh, heh, heh.

Hi Robin,

Keep your chin up. I know how it is to lose and win. I usually play softball though, haven't done volleyball in a long, long time. Anyway, one softball team I was on, lost all the regular season games but when it got to the playoffs we stomped everyone and came in first. Not sure what happened with us or the other teams but it was a very nice feeling. I guess I like to win but I am out there to have fun (win, lose or draw).

Robin I LOLd at your subject line. :)

I'm sorry you're not happy! But.....the point of playing volleyball is different now than it was in high school and college. In school, it was competitive and counted for something. Isn't the point now just what you said-an opportunity to get out and do something for YOU and have fun?

That said, I know it's no fun and it can be frustrating when your teammates don't appear to be trying real hard. I know a couple who almost got divorced because the husband was so into it and screamed at the wife every time she missed a shot he thought she should have made. (They quit playing, thus saving the marriage).

Try to relax and just remember it's for FUN and "escape" from Mommyland for a few hours. :)

I hope you feel better!

I also played at the college level and I think that is precisely why I don't enjoy playing on anything other than a higly competitive, aggresive level. I finally found a co-ed group that plays on the beach every Thursday nights in the summer & I try to get there whenever I can. It is KILLER }(

Look around for another league next year but in the interim, try to have some fun and get your body in motion!

Thanks everyone!

I know the point is to have fun, and we do laugh a lot while we are out there. At the time of writing the email I just got home from the games and was a little frusterated! I'm over it now and I'm already looking forward to next weeks game! :)

Thanks for the encouragement! You ladies are awesome!

I feel your pain. I play on a Thursday night team, and sometimes I swear the other women just leave their hustle at home or something. I'm in it for fun, but I like to play hard and I hate to see people playing like Daria, you know? I don't mind losing, but I hate to lose because we didn't hustle.
