My Sad Valentine's Day

I'm so sorry about your sweet kitty Slinky. I know it was so hard, but you did the right thing for your baby. (((hugs)))

Amy

I just recently lost my Sadie cat, so like many others here on the boards, I know how awful it feels right now. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Gabrielle,

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family in the loss of your beloved Slinky.

We lost our previous 18-year-old cat Thomasina to the same thing last spring - it will be 9 months tomorrow and I still cry for her every day.

Saying goodbye is the hardest thing anyone ever has to do. Slinky was a beautiful cat, and I know that his absence will leave an empty place in your home.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Carolyn

I had to put my Baby down last May due to a cancerous tumor on her neck. I know how hard it is to make that decision.

Have you read the book Cat Heaven? I highly recommend it in times like this...(read it with a box of tissues though).

:)

Thank you all for your kind words. It really helps. I think I will take Kathryn's advice and tell you about my little Slinky.

We adopted him as a kitten from a local shelter. He was a stray that had been found stuck in a vending machine. Due to his traumatic beginnings Slinky was initially terrified of people. The first few months with us were spent mostly under the bed. He slowly emerged and began trusting us. He would come on to the bed and night and have what we called 'walk around purr purr'. He'd keep moving while we pet him and he purred like crazy. He eventually came out of his shell and became a major part of our lives. He turned out to be the happiest cat I've ever had. Dh and I always said that if we could be one of our cats we'd be Slinky because of his happiness.
The first thing I did every morning was open the curtain so he could see out from his sleeping spot on the back of the couch. He would thank me with a little meow. That last thing I did every night was give him some cat treats in the bedroom. He would make sure this happened with many persistent meows. Even though I get up earlier, dh is the cat feeder. At his slightest stir in the morning Slinky would dash down the hallway and start meowing until he got fed. Dh gets easily distracted so Slinky kept him on track. "Meow! Don't check email. Feed me!" "Meow, why are you going into the office? Feed me!" The other cats simply sat on their mats a waited while Slinky did all the work. Feeding time will never be the same.
He was a cat who much preferred to be with his humans. Sometimes he wouldn't even go out unless we went with him. The other cats, who aren't let out as much as he was 'cause unlike Slinky they cannot be trusted to not leave the yard, thought he was nuts. "You mean they'd let you out and you won't go?" I'm sure is what they would think.
Our house is now so quiet. We will miss him forever. He was a kind and sweet soul.

I'm so very sorry for your loss! This hits me because I have a black cat named Slinky also! He is a big beautiful lug and the thought of losing him makes me understand what you're going through!

Aw, it's nice to know there's another Slinky out there. Give him a couple of strokes for me.

Thank you for sharing some of Slinky with us.
He sounds like a wonderful cat who had a happy and fulfilled life with you.
