My Puppy :-)

What a big bundle of cute!
Looks like he'll be big enough to pull you on skis once he grows up, LOL!

Thank you all for your kind words about my sweet little boy. I'm so happy to have him. I will happily post pictures every month so you can watch him get big. . . er. :)

More (probably) unneeded advice.

No puppy food! You have a giant breed dog and they should not have a food with more than 23% protein. Too much protein basically grows them too fast and can cause bone and joint problems that are painful for them and hard to cure.

I wonder if vets actually inform their clients about that? I've never had a giant breed dog, so I wouldn't know, but it seems to me that there's always a lot I learn from other people that I should learn from my vet or the breeder!

Actually, this information is a little out of date. Several brands now have large breed puppy formula food that is ideal for larger breed pups. It has a nutritional profile that is properly balanced for the needs of a puppy vs. an adult, including the right amounts of protein and calcium, amongst other things. I have a Lab that is just about a year and a half old now and just finished transitioning her from large breed puppy formula to adult food a few months ago. She developed beautifully!

I have a chocolate lab that just turned one year, and our vet has had us feeding him a large puppy formula food as well, and he is thriving beautifully.

Best of luck with your puppy. They all just love to be be loved!:D

A lab is a large breed dog, therefore a food for large breed puppies is fine. A mastiff is a GIANT breed dog. There is a difference in how fast they should build muscle - hence a lower protein level. As far as I know, the only commercial puppy food for giant breed pups is made by Eagle Pack. And it says it is for GIANT breed dogs.
