My Poor daughter

I am so stressed out, my daughter is so sick, I can't tell if the bone is getting infected, I take her to her orthopedic oncologist tomorrow, but her toes are swollen and cast if feeling tight, and she is nauseated but no fever, could that be a sign of an infection? her toes feel warm and good curculation still, I check daily and sometimes several times a day to make sure all is well that way, I am anxious to get her to her appointment tomorrow, I just wish I can help her feel better, she can't hold anything down, she lives on promethazine (phenerghan) for nausea and it helps some, the other stuff the doctor wanted to give her cost us $200 for 6 pills, and we can't afford that and our insurance says NO WAY for that med, Why do kids have to suffer like this??? makes me so sad to see children have to suffer with an illness,

Oh Lesliemarie, I'm so sorry for all the suffering your daughter is going through. I hope that they're able to help when you go for your appointment tomorrow, and that this ordeal is over quickly for you.

Lesliemarie - I'm sending good vibes and thoughts you and your daughter's way. I cannot imagine watching my DD suffer like that. I would so rather have the pain myself. I'll be praying that any news is good news and she gets better soon!

Lesliemarie,

I think you should call your doctor now and tell him/her what's going on. Also, I can't speak for your doc, but my DH works with a very competent social worker who makes things happen! They can often find ways to get insurance or some other source to pay for meds and other needed equipment and/or services. Nagging is an effective tool.

I would be he is only at the children's hospital on Tuesday and no one except him that deals with her kind of tumors, he is the best in the state. There is no fever and her nausea meds are holding her over so I think we can make it till Tomorrow

First, {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}} to your dear daughter. If you can't see the doc today continue to keep a close eye on her and if things worsen get to the doctor or ER anyway.

As Michele said, there are ways to get that med paid for if the doctor prescribes it as THE NECESSARY medication for your daughter. Ask him regarding avenues to approach this, ask workers in his office, find a county social worker to help you seek out your options, search online for support groups dealing with your child's type of illness/tumor and ask questions regarding getting assistance with paying for meds.

And here's a {{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}} for you.

Lesliemarie,
I am sooooo sorry your daughter is going through this :-( :-( :-( I agree, it's not fair that children have to suffer. I have no answers for that one. I can tell you however I was a pediatric oncology nurse for 12 years and saw alot. Many suffered what seemed like endlessly. But I tell you now, I know many of those children are now adults, married and happily living their lives. You and your daughter are in my prayers.

God Bless

Catherine

i am so sorry, i hope things will work out soon. and i think its ridciculous that insurance companies won't pay for alot of the medicines that are needed, i hope things can get straightened out with that too. my prayers for your little girl.

Leslie, I was thinking about your daughter and wondering how she's feeling this morning. Please tell your doctor that your insurance won't pay for that prescription and ask if there is something he can do to help. There very well could be and he may even have some samples he can give you. Take good care and know that your daughter is in my prayers.

Thank you all so much, I will let you know what happens when we get back. I have mentioned to the doctor that the insurance won't pay for that medication unless she is pregnant!! and she is only 16!! but that isn't the first time our insurance has rejected a doctors prescription, a few years back when my hubby had a massive hives attack the doctor wanted him on singulair and our insurance said no way not unless he had asthma and it is prescibed with other asthma medications, of course he is ok now and got other medications but seems like we have to deal with our insurance on medications now and never had to do that before, I understand the medications are very expensive.

Hope everything went well, LeslieMarie! I'm continuing to pray for your daughter and you. If you continue to have difficulties getting medicines, I really encourage you to let us know. There are a lot of resourceful people here. We'll come up with something. It's bad enough that your daughter and your family is going through what you are, to have to worry about medicines is too much. I so feel for you.
