My new lab "Cinder"

Hi everyone, I don't know if remember in the past that I had to put my lab to rest because of lyme disease that went into kidney failer, well anyway I finally got a n playmate:). His name is Cinder because he was born on 9/11/01. He is a full black lab with yellow marking through him so he looks kinda like a rotweiler but he is a full bred because his mom was yellow and his dad was black so I know he wouldn't be a show dog but who cares because he is so loving and so good. Some guy brought him to me all the way from Maryland to NJ. He saw my ad on petfinder.com and like what he saw and was willing to drive him here. He had to give him up because he was in a house with a family of his own and was suppose to get marry but it didn't work out so he ended up moving into an apartment. I felt so bad because when the guy left he was almost crying so I email him to let him know that Cinder was getting so much love here and not to worry:). Well anyway that was my story but I just wanted to let you know I posted an album under Cinder on picturtrail.

RE: My new lab

I'm glad for you and for Cinder! Sounds like he is in a great home! I have 4 dogs, one of which is a lab mix and the easiest one of all my dogs! Loves EVERYBODY and ANYBODY!

RE: My new lab

Barbara,

One thing you may want to do is have your vet check him out and get some type of note saying he is a purebred lab. I bring this up only because often times Rottweilers are on breed ban lists for home owners or renters insurance. Owning a Dobe, I've been down that path many a time and it isn't very fun.

Normally labs are still one color (i.e. chocolate, black or yellow) even if parents are two different colors. So it might be best to have some documentation just to protect yourself.

He sure is a cutie though and I love the name!

RE: My new lab

Colleen, believe me he is a lab, but I will take your advice:). I don't believe what you said about the coloring because sometimes they can come out 2 or 3 colorings but they wouldn't be show dogs. I've seen it before. My last lab was black. His son was 3 coloring and the mother was a brown lab. It can happen but not often:). Im not saying I am an expert but the guy who brought his dog here, his sister and his step mom or breeders but not of lab. This is just my thought.

RE: My new lab

Congratulations on your new family member! What a cutie pie!

I recently brought home a new addition (a new kittie) as I lost one of my cats this past Spring to FIP. While the new addition can never replace the one you lost, it's so nice when you can embrace a new one and know the special love a pet can give.

RE: My new lab

He's beautiful!! And what a special birthday!! I wish you years and years of love and happiness with him!!

RE: My new lab

Oh, Barbara, I'm so glad you got another dog. I was so sad for you when you lost your other sweetie. I know that this one can never replace the one you lost, but having another dog to love, to help fill the hole in your heart, can really help with your grief. I'm sure this is the luckiest dog alive, to have found a home with someone who has so much love to give.

RE: My new lab

Barbara, congratulations to you and Cinder! What a great name and what an adorable fellow he is! I'm so glad to see that this year will finish up for you with a happy "pooch" ending, after all -- you and Cinder are going to have quite the love match! http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/love/641.gif

For what it's worth, which is exactly two cents, I also want to say that I'm positive Colleen didn't mean to imply that Cinder isn't a Lab, or to offend you in any way. I think she was offering you an easy and smart way to protect Cinder and you from potential trouble anytime in his life, and I hope you'll take her advice. Your vet can do a simple test on Cinder and give you something in writing confirming that he's a Lab, not a Rottweiler or any other breed. And then, if anyone EVER complains or makes any kind of trouble because they think Cinder's something that he's not, you can put them in their place right away! Grrrrr! }(

Hugs to both of you!!!

RE: My new lab

Kathy I know Colleen meant well and I am going to take her advice:) I just wanted to let her know that it can happen. It is even on the AKC website but that color is disqualitfy. Believe me I am glad that Colleen brought this to my attention so I can take care of it because I would have never thought of it. Anyway from his orig. vet record it does state that he is a purebred. Thanks Kathy and Coleen I didn't mean this in a harsh way, im sorry:(

No offense taken :) I just wanted to try to help. Having a Dobe makes me keenly aware of the breed banning and political crap that goes along with it. Many people/companies are quick to jump to conclusions and living in a suit-happy society, I'm most interested in protecing my dog in whatever way possible. My dobe's littermate had to be given up because of a false claim (dog jumped on little girl, father called 911, ambulance REFUSED to do anything because there wasn't even a scratch on her), but because it was a "Dobe" the homeowners insurance told the owner it was the dog or the insurance :(

By the way, he sure looks happy in his new home!
