My Good Morning America Experience

Hi All! I just got back. What an exciting experience. I wanted to thank all of you for your kind hearted words. They really made me feel special. I know many of you have asked if I could share some details so I will do my best to fill you in and then feel free to ask me anything you still may want to know.....

Friday June 2nd...I got a call from Dr.Nick to ask if I would like to join him on his "boomeritis" segment on Good Morning America (GMA). I was told there could always be a last minute scheduling change so to be prepared if it were to get canceled. That is why I didn't say anything on the forums before Monday.

Sunday June 4th....I get a call from one of the producers of GMA confirming the segment will air as well as travel, lodging, and itinerary details. Now I'm excited :)

Monday June 5th...I am picked up and driven into NYC city (compliments of GMA)and brought to my hotel. Details for morning pick up and show itinerary are phoned in. In addition, a variety of potential show topics are reviewed with me so that the show goes smoothly.

Tuesday June 6th....I get a call from GMA saying they are sending an escort to pick me up now (pick up time 7:15am). The escort takes me to a side door which leads to the stage entrance. Immediately inside the door stands Dr. Nick. We say our hello's and are escorted past the actual show being recorded live (and I am trying to peek as I am being whisked away with a "shhhh this way" hand motion). They take us to a room complete with breakfast refreshments and tell us to make ourselves comfortable until they call us for hair and make up. They had the GMA show on in this room so we could watch it.

Up to this point I have to say I was surprisingly not nervous. But suddenly standing in this room and looking up at the monitor, it all caught up to me and I had a rush of adrenaline go through me. Fortunately the escorts arrived shortly after that to take us to our hair and make up rooms (a senerio completely familiar to me from doing our own filming) and I fell back into my comfort zone. Once we were "show ready" Dr. Nick and I were escorted to the ground level studio (on the way down we passed Susan Powters segment being filmed on the second floor studio so I heard about 10 seconds of her as I passed by).

Once taken to our "interview" seats, I looked around me and took it all in. My heart started beating again and I looked at the vacant chair that would soon be occupied by Charles Gibson. I looked out the window and saw a large group of people on the street pressed up against the glass waving to us. There was a monitor playing the GMA show so that we were able to hear the last bit of Susan Powter before they broke to a commercial. They also invited about 40 people in off the street to stand inside and view us about 10 feet away. I remember a women giving me a warm smile in the audience and I smiled back. Somehow that put me at ease and I felt ready to go.

Loud cheers suddenly made me look to the left. It was Charles Gibson entering the studio. He shook hands with those who were inside and then made his way over to Dr. Nick and me. He gave us both a very warm hand shake and we exchanged brief welcoming words when suddenly he took his seat as a staffer yelled "15 seconds to air". He took his glasses off, put them on the side table, the room was dead silent as we heard a voice say "in 5, 4, 3, 2, ..".....and so the show began :)

After the segment, we quickly said our thank you's and good byes to Charles Gibson and were once again whisked away while the guests for the next featured segment were brought through.

We were taken back to the waiting area where Dr. Nick and I chatted briefly before hopping into our designated cars and taken home.

This was such an exciting experience for me and I am honored to have been asked to appear on the show with him.

Cathe,
What a WONDERFUL experience for you and thank you for sharing it with us in such detail. I am so very lucky to have met you and to be a member of your forum. I hope you are healing well and can't wait for the new workouts, because I definitley need a kick in the pants and you do that so well. Take care and thanks again for all that you do.:)

I was able to watch the interview. You looked simply beautiful, classy and healthy! Loved the stylish outfit...Ann Taylor??

Whoa Baby...nice arm and shoulder build!

Hi Cathe:7

I watched in Canada. I made sure my husband set 2 VCRs just to make sure I didn't miss the segment. It was very interesting. You looked so beautiful, fit and healthy!!:) The book looks interesting as well. Later in the day I checked my local bookstore, but couldn't find it yet. I'll have to check Amazon as it sounds like something I could benefit from (being 44 years old and determined to continue with my workouts into my senior years.) I was so happy to see you on television. It made my day. Thanks for sharing what the experience was like. Helen

Hi Cathe,

I saw you on GMA today, you looked great. I'm not used to seeing you dressed up instead of your workout clothes. I'm glad they showed a clip of one of your DVD's.

Debbie

Yippie, Cathe! I bet you're still grinning and pinching yourself to confirm it was a reality. How neat for you to be on GMA with Dr. Nick. :)

Hi Cathe,

You were great! DH & I watched after our morning walk (we were off today). I am happy that you were asked to share this experience. It is too bad that they (those at GMA) didn't realize the gem that they had in their studio. You could have shared so much more with GMA and their viewers. I have a mind to let them know.

Thanks for sharing your fortunate experience with us,
jordan

Cathe,
I set my dvd recorder before heading off to work this morning. When I came home at lunch I fast forwarded to your interview. You looked great! I couldn't really see any nervousness from you. I think you and your Dr. did a great job! It was a welcome relief since they had Susan Powter on before you. No offense, but the woman is scary! I really don't think she projects a good role model for someone in the industry. Take care, Robin:)

Wow, Cathe. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Makes one really feel a part of it.:7

Cathe,

I didn't get to watch it - for I was doing Low Max and I added the All Blast at the end. It is when I work out in the morning -but I must say that I thought about you the whole time and even said some prayers for you to be at ease.

I am glad it went so well. Is there anyway we could view that segment on the GMA website? I went to it and only saw Susan Powter.

You are the best!

Cheryl

Thank you for sharing the information on your experience. I had set my vcr, but when I turned on my t.v., they announced Susan Powter and then said after commercial boomeritis - I knew that meant YOU!!! I called my eight year old daughter to come watch with me as she was as excited as me - she knows you very well - lol.
You did a great job!!!
It sounds like something you will never forget.

Cathe, thanks for sharing your experience. You know we love ya!:)

BTW my 3 DS watched the segment with me and the youngest ask, "Mom, is that your Cathe? The one that you do what she tells you?" I smiled and said "yes, darling, that's my Cathe." :)

Cathe, I'm SO excited & happy for you. I always knew you were a big star! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us.

Cathe~
Thanks for sharing the "behind the scenes" part of your interview.:) My DD and I watched and thought you did excellent--very charming, elegant, knowledgable and oh so awesomely fit and beautiful! A perfect role model!!

I think Dr Nick's book will be my next purchase. At 47 it is probably something that could pertain to me. ;-)

Thanks for sharing the details Cathe. I watched you and Dr Nick and you looked great!!! I even checked out his site that you had posted. Thanks also as it is a very interesting site. How fun to see you on GMA...
