My DD just had half her head of hair pulled off!

My DD (5) was playing with my DHs drill and it got tangled in her hair and ripped almost the entire left side clean off! :(:( It is horrible. It could've been so, so much worse, so we are thankful that it was just her hair.
As a parent I just ache for her.

Could you please send us prayers of comfort and for quick growing hair.

I think we will just try to cover it with her other side and maybe cut it short later. She is bald on one side. Any advice?

Thank you.

No advice, but I just wanted to say that I'm glad your dd wasn't seriously injured! That is so scary! I hope her hair grows back quickly.

My dd got her hair caught in the vacuum when she was 2. Fortunately, DH got it turned off immediately and there was no damage done. I was upset because I am always super careful with the vacuum around the kids and DH had dd right under the vacuum (he lifted it up to use the attachment on the ceiling).

OMG! Mary, I'm so sorry! Thank goodness it was only her hair. It'll grow back in no time, take heart. My DD(2) had her hands in her pockets, like her older sisters, and fell face first onto the pavement with nothing to break the fall but her nose! All I was praying for when I was trying to stop the bleeding was that her teeth were intact. Her nose was a mess for a good month and she still has red splotches. But she's fine, and that's what counts. Your little one will be ok, too.

Sending you hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Aw. I'm so glad she's okay, but still...I can understand being upset over the loss of hair. Is it cold in your part of the world (we're starting to get chilly in IL)? Maybe a few cute hats and a head scarf will be just the thing.

Oh my goodness!! We've had run ins with my girls cutting their own hair, but never a drill! I'm glad that she is ok! Cute hats would work this time of year!

Wow! That's scary. I'm glad she's okay.

My goodness! I hadn't ever even dreamed that a drill could do that, but I guess it does make sense that it could happen. I'll say a little prayer for quick hair growth and a good sense of humor/self-esteem as her hair does grow back.
take care and hugs!!!!

Your poor sweetie! I could only imagine, because my DD likes to hang out with her dad in the garage and there are so many things in there she could get into... Of course her dad says, "Don't worry, she knows better". Yeah right, she's 4.

I am sending prayers for beautiful locks of hair to grow back. Wow, I'll bet that hurt too! :(

OH NO Mary! I'm so sorry to hear this:( Thank God is wasn't worse. She must have been so frightened. Give her a big hug for me and let her know that prayers and good thoughts are coming her way.

Maybe you could take her shopping and let her pick out a cute hat or scarf that she can wear occasionally while her hair grows out.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry!! Your poor DD must've been so frightened, and you, too!! I'm so relieved she's okay. I agree with what the others have said -- just get her a cute hat or two to cover her head, and in the meantime, I'll be on my knees in prayer for rapid hair growth.

That is scary!!! I am so glad that it was not more serious.

I am not sure if you can but maybe you can pull all the hair to the one side, like a side pony.

I am sure that it will grow back fast.

Oh - I am so sorry. Thank goodness she is ok. Is she terribly bothered by it? Maybe it won't bother her as much as it would us, as adults. One of my friends DD chopped her hair something horrible. It really bothered the mother but not the daughter at all. Three things come to mind: A) she can get involved in helping kids going through chemo, losing their hair. Maybe she will find a passion for helping other kids and bringing joy to their life. B) She will get a ton of attention at school and have a great story to tell. C) She can learn to be thankful for small miracles - that she is ok - and that appearance is only skin deep and her real beauty comes from the inside. Meanwhile, *HUGS* to all of you!

I so glad it was just her hair! My gosh, things can happen in the blink of an eye. That must have been agonizingly painful for her! I agree with all the bandana/scarf/hat/side ponytail suggestions. Maybe, have her help you pick them out? Hugs to everybody!

Thank you!

Thank you all. I was so out of it mentally yesterday I didn't even think of a scarf. She loves to wear them anyway. We had our church meeting at our house last night and she wore the scarf the whole time. She did get brave and "show off" her new hair do to some of her friends and she told me "they didn't laugh!" :) So sweet. She doesn't like to look at herself and wore a little baseball type cap while she brushed her teeth. :( But, I think I am more upset about it, probaby b/c I know how much worse it could have been. Even my DH was pretty shaken up. He said he saw her with the drill bit (a sharp one he said) pointed right at her head!

Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers! :)

That sounds horrible, and painful!

I think we will just try to cover it with her other side and maybe cut it short later. She is bald on one side. Any advice?
If she doesn't mind kind of a punk look, she could go long on one side, shaved (bald) on the other. I can see the look in my head, but it's hard to describe (the "long" side is basically like a long hank of bangs that hang over the eyes, with the rest shaved or cut short).

Maybe a temporary tatoo?

Scarves? Wrapped in a way that lets the hair on the 'good' side hang out, but covers most of the bald side.

Of course, if she's more conservative and not at all punk, it's harder to find a style that fits.
