Music question

Hey there!

The clips look great! However, I noticed you didn't use any "known" music for this workouts. Is that something permenant or are you going to mix it up in the future?

Thanks :)
Susan

I personally am glad not to have 'known' music, as I like my workout music to be that: workout music, not music I've heard, or will hear, on the radio.

I'd like to know also as I enjoy a mix. I think it's fun to have some known songs.

Just one opinion here, but I LOVE the music in the preview. All of it!!! Some vocal, some non-vocal but it all sounded inspiring and fun!!

Hi Susan! There is one known song in this mix and that is the warm up song to Lower Intensity Step "Start The Dance". The rest are well known hit songs/artists in Europe or all instrumental mixes. This was the same experience we had with the Intensity Series. The vocals were by unknown artists but they were very catchy songs that really grow on you as you hear them. Everyone up here in the offices hears them in their sleep and still enjoys them :7

We don't always have timely access to well known songs when we are making our song selections. Licenses have to be applied for (and not always guaranteed) well in advance for certain specific song selections, plus they are priced WAY HIGH! We pick from a large sampling of "DVD ready" music. In that batch is a usually a mix of about 7 to 10 older well knowns that I scoop up but this time the batch only had the one (which I snatched up for the warm up song).

Music is always a tough area to make everyone happy but we try our best to please the majority by considering a variety of styles and various resources, yet of course, working within our budget.

Nice to hear from you again :)

Hi Cathe,

I just wanted to let you know that I'm happy witht he music in your DVDs. There are times I'm so concentrated on the workout and the next step that I can't even focus on the music. One thing I have to say though is that working out to "Buttercup" has made me sing it better on my DD's Playstation 2 karaoke. She actually wasn't too happy I beat her on that song! It's all thanks to you!

I guess count me as one that isn't too happy - sounds too "disco" for me x(

CTX has the best soundtrack, IMHO
But I'm sure I will enjoy the workouts anyway - they look tough!

Hi Shelly!

Geeze its been a rough year hun. I lost my grandmother, my mom was in a hit and run accident, one of my cats died in July and my mom, Steve and I have been trying to move to Coney Island. I'm sorry I haven't been around-- I miss everyone terribly.

Cathe-

Its funny you mention the intensity series-- the song in Imax 2 during the second combo was an unknown to me that I really fell in love with, so I don't doubt that they are catchy. I do appreciate the difficulty of balancing out the musical differences of so many users. I preordered and will defintely be giving these workouts their due, as I mentioned the moves look great! But I also do love hearing Don't Forget About Me, The Pina Colada song and of course THE STONES! ;) So I was just checking!

I finally got to listen to it, and though I like the music and the beat, I definitely think it sounds too 'tinny' and electronic. I'm hoping that's just because of the internet connection, and that it would sound quite that way at home (though the last series was also a bit too tinny/electronic sounding to me).

I'm really excited about the music in this series! I just did BM2 yesterday (off of this month's rotation and thank you Cathe, I'm noticing a difference in my body already!!) and I was picked up by the music so many times - it's a real lifesaver sometimes :)

Hey Cathe,

With all the hard work you put into this series, I want you to know that I appreciate ALL OF IT! You just can't please everyone, I guess.

Ditto JTreddin!

I guess music doesn't really make or break a workout for me. As long as the workout is good and the music "fits" (i.e. upbeat in a cardio segment and more mellow in a stretch) I'm a happy camper. Yes there are some songs that I hear and make me psyched like 'About a Girl' by Nirvana on SJP during the bicep work...OMG I about fell out when I heard that, even DH walked in and said Cathe is using Nirvana? Too cool! There are other songs here and there that give an extra WOW factor but Cathe's workouts are the BOMB and I'd love them regardless of the style of music. Really think about it people...my taste are Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Doors...the next person may like country or gospel. How in the world can one person pick music that ALL of us love? It's not possible and I think it puts an unfair burden on Cathe. Maybe a "music off" option would solve this issue? Something for SNM to consider in the future to avoid this discussion.

Keep up the great work Cathe and thank you for ALL that you do for us!! :)

I always love the music Cathe...I often remark to myself that we seem to have the same taste in music.

DH is a musician & he loves it too!

I don't want to turn the music off and just b/c we voice a dissenting opinion in hopes that something will change for future workouts doesn't mean we are less appreciative of the workouts Cathe produces. She has consistenly delivered on the "BOMB" workouts and has always been open to suggestions and constructive criticism. As you said, it is impossible to please everyone all the time, but it doesn't hurt to hear everyone's opinion to help with future choices. That being said, the music may be fabulous since we've only heard 6 minutes of it. I'm not trying to sound harsh but I just think people ought to allow posters to give their opinion to Cathe on her forum without a come on people or a slap on the hand.

P.S. I just finished a late night workout...Muscle Max...I guess I'm feeling a little bit fisty! :)

Ooh, I totally didn't mean to come off as "don't give constructive criticism"; I'm sorry if my post read that way...it was not my intention. And I certainly didn't mean that people who are disappointed in the music choice were less appreciative of Cathe's workouts. So I'm sorry if anyone took my post as a "slap on the hand".

I guess the point I was trying to make is that music is so subjective that no matter what she chooses there will always be a group that is disappointed. There really isn't a win-win solution in my opinion other than offering a music off function in the future. That way people could play their own music should they find the music choice disappointing. That being said, your point about "the music may be fabulous since we've only heard 6 minutes of it" is very true. I supose we'll have to wait and see after everyone gets the workouts. I suspect, however, that the jury will still be split thus leaving the options of 1. keeping the next series' music similar or 2. going to more recognizable songs...either way one side is going to be disappointed.
