Muscle Endurance vs. Muscle Strength

Hello ---I was wondering if anyone could explain to me the difference between Muscle endurance vs. strength...I get the Endurance is Longer use vs. Strength=power...Does muscle endurance "lean out" your muscle and strength bulks the muscle??? I am confused ....please help !!!!
Thanks
Samantha

Hi and welcome to the forum. In response to your question, a muscular endurance workout means high reps/low weight so you are toning and sculpting the muscle and building endurance for more strenuous workouts. In Strength workouts like Pure Stength series or Slow and Heavy you are doing low reps with high weight aiming to build the muscle up or add bulk along with gaining strength in how much you can lift. A combination of the 2 makes for nicely defined but not bulky muscles which is what most women want. Thus the reason Cathe doesn't look like a female bodybuilder.

Hope that helps you some.:) :7 :D

Thanks Annette...I think I grasp it now....gee all of cathe's leg workouts seem like Endurance YIKES....But I think I can adjust and modify to get both in....Thanks Again

Hi, Sam I am! You can also look at it this way. Muscle endurence allows you to perform well over a period of time like when I clean my house all day because my children are slobs! Muscle strength allows me to perform feats of strength for shorter periods of time like those days when I decide to move my furniture and haul things around. Sometimes I am the energizer bunny and sometimes I am Superwoman! Thanks to Cathe both are a cakewalk these days!

Hi Samantha, tapes like Power Hour and Muscular Endurance are endurance tapes, like I said before Pure Strength and Slow and Heavy series are more strength type workouts. Leaner Legs and the new one Legs and Glutes are endurance also. I am not sure about the Pyramids someone else will have to answer concerning that one. So whereas you can adapt an endurance tape to be a strength tape ( I did so with Power Hour) Cathe does offer both.

Hope that helps somemore!!:)

Hi and welcome. The Pyramid to me is both endurance and strength depending on how you use it. For instance on the dvd sometimes I will use the up only and lift heavy as i can but pause in between set and take a 30 to a minute break. If i do the whole set then I will use lighter weight because it is so fast pace that I consider this to be endurance. I always did the Endurance type lifting because I love it but now I want to get a little bit more bulkier so I am going to start doing strength 2 times a week and endurance 1 time a week. I am going to do my heavier lifting at the gym and do endurance at home. Have fun:)

Yes, I see it this way also. I've been using the Pyramids more for strength than endurance so I use the heaviest set of weights I can manage for each muscle group and take breaks between sets.

Do you use the same poundage for each set then and do all the sets? so that would be 5 sets at the same weight w/breaks I love the PUB just really gets in there So if I understand you could do it for strength and endurance
Thanks Lisa

No Lisa, I use three different weights. I apologize for the confusion. I should have said I use different "setS of weights" for each muscle group. So for chest I use 12/15/20/15/20, for back, 15/20/25/20/15 for the lat pulldowns and 12/15/20/15/20 for rows, for shoulders, 8/10/12/10/8 (I do single arm anterior delt raises with these weights so I rewind a lot) and so on... For Cathe, these weights may be for endurance, but for me they're heavy enough to qualify as weights for strength training. I take breaks when I have to.

I was wondering how to classify Supersets and Push/Pull. Are they muscle endurance or muscle strength. I am trying to alternate high reps/low weight with low reps/high weight. Thanks for the help.

Thanks everyone for the input...I understand better and see that both strength and endurance play part in well defined legs...I have lean legs, legs and glutes, and pyramid lower...sometimes I just do a pyramid up and heavy for a heavy day...I try to do legs twice a week so I will try endurance one day and heavy another..and see what happens...Thanks Again!!!Samantha :)

I use my pub the same wt a heavy wt for each set by the time it is at the lightest at the end I can only get out around 4-6.I really hated the pyrmids but since doing this way it is pure strength.example chest 2 db at 45pounds for 12-10-8-6-4(or what I can get out).
