MP3 player suggestions??

I want an mp3 player to listen to at the gym. I don't even know where to begin!!! I just want something simple that will hold about 100 songs. We use Windows 2k on our computers (if that's relevant...lol). And I'd like for it to be compact...just like the ipod nano or shuffle.

Anyone have any suggestions for me???

Thanks in advance!!

This is based on personal bias... stay away from the ipod. Apple has built an exclusionary media system that is incompatible without their software. Their Itunes site downloads are incompatible with other players. There has been issues with the rechargeable batteries. They are overpriced and overvalued.

Having said that I would recommend Iriver, Creative, Rave and some of the other MP3 manufacturers. They all work with Microsofts media player, which is already on your computer. You can download from any MP3 site or copy from your own CDs.

The storage estimation is easy, the larger the number 512Meg (512 million bytes) or 1Gig (1 billion bytes) determines how many songs you can store.

I got my mp3 player at walmart for 117.00 and it has a radio on it also. It is a cali. walmart has a cali sport too which I wish I would have gotten ,it has more memory but the regular cali you can upgrade. I love mine ,would never have anything else.

I got my MP3 player from Best Buy and only spent $100 and it has FM tuner and voice recorder and it is 1 gig, Love it, it is a sandisk

I got the same Sandisk MP3 for my 15yo son. He has had no complaints and he says the radio works great on it. The 1 gig is the silver one and I too got it at Best Buy when it was on sale for $89 before Christmas.

My DH said the same exact thing....we both use Creative and he downloads our songs off CDs and MP3 sites without a hitch.

I forgot to add...anytime I am shopping for electronics (or really anything!) I go to Amazon.com and see if they sell the same product and then I read the reviews of the ones I am considering. The reviews on the Sandisk MP3 players were the ones with the least complaints about product useage so that's why I went with that one.

But really, anytime you're shopping for stuff like this, it is worth your time to go to Amazon and read the reviews of other people first because then you find out what problems people are having with use issues.

I have the Scandisk and I love it.The only problem was that I did not like the headphones that it came with. Other than that, it is great!

I'm in love with my iPod (I'm listening to it right now!) It's a pink mini. I haven't had any issues with the battery or anything but I've heard that it's fairly easy to replace, you can either pay 50 bucks and have apple do it or order a kit from a 3rd party vendor. It's SUPER user-friendly. I've hated the other ones MP3 players I've tried but I'm a Mac user and other MP3 players are not Mac-friendly (even though they claim to be.) I actually buy almost all my music from the iTunes music store (can't beat $10 for an album). Other music download sites are kloogy and programmed badly (I'm a programmer.) You can actually play MP3s purchased at other download sites if they don't have copy-protection and you can even get around that if you burn them onto a CD and then put them back into your computer. I LOVE the iTunes software (even when I'm on a PC, I DESPISE Windows Media Player.) There are 4 iPods in my family. My husband has a green mini, my daughter has a shuffle and my son just got a Nano for his birthday. The iPod is the most populer MP3 player for a reason.

My Mp3 player (a raveMP) works with Linux how cool is that?

There was a great article in the NY Times yesterday on why the Ipod is popular, besides the Apple hype machine, and that is the user control is easier to learn and use. Samsung hired the Apple designer that designed that controller and the next gen Samsung looks just like an Ipod. I haven't figured out why I should pay anyone to replace a battery just make the unit with a replaceable battery, can't Apple make enough of of selling batteries?

As I said I had a personal bias, I'm one of those Apple users that Jobs cast to the wind when the Mac line first came out. I put Jobs in the same circle of h-ll that Chairman Bill belongs in. I'm not a programmer but I am a reformed black hat hacker.

I have the Bean by Sony. I love it. It's so cute and tiny and has awesome sound. My DH got it for me for my 40th B'Day. You can get it from Sony.com.

Well, I got mine yesterdsay, I decided to get one by Philips, its the GoGear model. Its really cool. It has the radio station with it and holds 16 hours of songs. I love it!!! The worst part of it, though, was using Windows Media Player with it. That is the dumbest program Gates ever made. Its hard to figure out but I finally did and now I'm on my way to downloading songs!!!
