More bad news about bottled water

Yeah, I read this same article. Bleah! Do they sell Acadia water in NJ? I'm pretty sure I've seen it here in CT. I think your Brita idea is a good one.

We got a BRITA a few years ago & love it. Now if I could just get other members of the household to re-fill it when it gets empty!!

I always use a water filter. But the main reason I don't drink bottles water is because I HATE plastic.
My boys were breast fed and then bottle fed with GLASS BOTTLES (they are 4 and 7), I never give them bottled water or anything really that comes in plastic. I just never really trusted the stuff. Have you ever noticed how plastic looks after going thru the dihwasher?? It never looked or felt clean to me.They went from brear to glass bottle to small glass cup. NO YUCKY sippy cups!!!

We do drink lots of water here so I go thru a lot of filters, but it is definately worth it. Besides, why pay money for WATER!!!???

I try to avoid bottle water, but sometimes it's hard to, especially when travelling. I try to stick with Fiji water when I use bottled water. Studies rate it as the purest bottled water.

At home, I use a distiller (and I move the water immediately to a glass container, and add a bit of sea salt or a sliced organic lemon to it, because distilled water is so inert that it supposedly picks up whatever it's in contact with, including contaminants from the air. I know that when I bought distilled water years ago, it tasted like the plastic bottle it was in).

Where do you find a distiller? That is something that I would invest in. :)

I want to know too! Is it the same thing as the Brita filter you attach to your faucet? Or something better (and probably more expensive)?

ugh! well I rarely buy bottled. We used a brita forever but now we have a fridge with a water filter we replace regularly. I wonder why bottled tastes better than tap then? I can't drink tap at all it makes me ill. :p

Elliemom -where do you get glass bottles at? I don't like plastic either and one time I tossed out almost all of the plastic in my house and bought glass or ceramics for bowls, cups, plates and tupperware. I haven't seen any glass bottles though. I'm expecting so I'd for sure check it out :)

I have a water cooler and get bottled water delivered to my house - how do you guys feel about it? Heard anything about it?

this is not suprising...we also use brita and are ok with it.....i know times are different now, but i grew up on tap water, and i seem to be ok, physically at least :p...

We have well water, and have been enjoying it since we've moved here. I too sometimes pick up bottled water while traveling. But not anymore. I'll store water in a glass container from now on while traveling or even shopping. Never again will I buy bottled water.

I just don't understand why these companies continue to contaminate our world with their bottled water, when they know it is dangerous to people and the environment.

I guess because of the all mighty money.:( Too bad, it use to be a convenient now it's a danger to our health.

I used to have a Brita filter on my faucet--I just never replaced it when I moved. I think now is the time. :p

Personally I notice a tremendous difference betw. tap & filtered/bottled water. Tap water tastes really metallic to me--I think iron. I don't really think tap water is bad for us (unfortunately my job has taught me everything I never wanted to learn about water & was afraid to ask ;)), but it does taste icky.

Now glass bottles are much easier to find since the whole plastic BPA's or whatever they were in baby bottles. CVS has them, Babies r Us has them and Check out Gerber online too. They were wonderful. And get silicone nipples too. They are clear. The brownish ones are Latex and no newborn should be sucking on something so highly allergic. Good luck in your pregnancy. When are you due???

Just no winning on this one. I refuse to drink our tap water, I live in a rocky area, so high radon levels, uranium, copper, etc.

I never trusted the tap water here, it's disgusting, and often isn't even clear, then a while ago we got a notice to not use, drink, even use boiled tap water because of super high uranium levels.

They even set up a potable water truck until the water source was re-routed. They "resolved" that issue, but now it's higher copper levels, so no way am I drinking any tap water here. I don't trust the filters will filter out enough.

I'll have to take my chances with bottled water. At least it's not radioactive  (I think)

That's why I stick to beer

LOL-save water,drink beer

but anyway, that is what ya get from wally world products. we have city water and i haven't died yet. do plan on getting a brita probably for the faucet though. dh doesn't like the taste of the water and we had one before and it works quite well, filters last over 3 months and are reasonable in price. they even have stuff to make flavored water now LOL,my daughter would love that.

Missy

I have a Waterwise distiller that I got (during a sale) from : www.waterwise.com .

I was sold on it the first time I used it. When I filled the boiler container, the water was murky (and I'm pretty sure not all of the 'murk' was good stuff), and when it comes out in the receptacle, it's SOO clean and pure looking (but, again, it needs something added to not absorb toxins). And the gunk at the bottom of the boiler container at the end of the cycle is pretty nasty (some is minerals, some of which are good, but I can get those from food, but some is 'something else').

It doesn't take up a lot of room, doesn't take a lot of maintenance (just cleaning the boiler chamber every once in a while, and just rinsing it out in between: I first bought their cleaner, then discovered that while vinegar works just as well, and isn't toxic the way the chemical cleaner is).

Did you have it tested, to know what's in it? Some well water isn't particulary safe, since in some areas, the ground water can become contaminated by chemicals.
