Men's Locker Room Check-in

1 week of meso 3

Hey Ben

Yesterday, I did my first workout of Meso 3. It's straight up heavy lifting! It was a real struggle, but I liked it. Lots of rest between sets..but you NEED it! My Chest and arms are still sore!

However, I need to go buy some heavier barbells and a few more plates to keep up with the high wieght and low reps. Overall, I am very much enjoying STS. I think I'm going to turn around and do it again right after I'm done with this cycle.

Chris, I regularly use a protien drinks as one of my meals even on non workout days and I don't have a problem with it. What brand of protien drink do you like?

Kevin

Guys... the rest week drags by so slooooowly.... Bring on Meso 2 already!!! LOLOLOLOL

I've been doing a step workout here and there (decided to pick up treadmill training with the start of Meso 2) and a few stretch workouts.

Kevin, I have been using Muscle Asylum's Freak Fix Choc flavor with milk on the weight days and Vanilla with one banana thrown in on cardio days. I might be doubling the intake as soon as Meso 2 starts.

Chris.

:eek::eek::eek:

Be careful what you wish for....

Meso 2 is here.. day 1 Disc 13... ouch to the nth!!!

Bench presses and flys killed me... Had to drop the weight load for the inclines...
Managed to keep the 70% for shoulders and tris, though... but I need to rest my elbows on the desk to type this... :D:D:D
I'll try and do the 70% on everything next week and see how it goes... otherwise I'll have to lower the bench press weights.

BTW... did you guys use a barbell or dumbbells for the lying tricep extensions? Also, did you do the flat version or the decline one?

One final thing... Hydroxycut... Geez!!! I have been taking it for the past couple of weeks about 90 minutes before cardio workous (and only on cardio days) which makes it to 2 to 3 times per week... Got quite a scare when I read it's been recalled. Went to the sports shop to let them know and they have already removed it form the shelves.

Better clean up my diet... no more pills for me!:eek::eek:

C U 2morrow!

Chris.

Getting Serious

Hey Chris,

I used the barbell on the lying tricep extentions. I felt like it was more stable. I may invest in a "curl" bar to do those "skull crushers".

I haven't used pills since ephedra was outlawed. Hydroxycut was pretty popular though. Sound like you didn't take enough to do too much damage.

This week at my job to encourage better health they have started a "Biggest Loser" contest. For 3 months we will weight in every week. The one that loses the most percentage of body weight wins a weekly prize. At the end the person that lost to most percentage of body weight wins the pot. About 27 employees put $50 in the pot.

Now I really have to get serious with my eating plan to have a chance at winning. Im going to start using this website to closely track my weight, and waist size.

Kevin, good luck with the contest!!! Just let the people at work know that gaining muscle and losing fat shows little improvement on the scale. Measurements are the way to go... ;):D

Great idea on the "skull crushers"! Come September I will definitely invest in two things: a "curl" bar for lying tricep and all bicep work, and an olympic bar. I have a hard time resting the bar I have on the squat rack since it's only 6ft and I'm always afraid one side is not resting securely...

And.. back to STS... Disc 14 IS a killer!!! Trisets (A.K.A. chinese torture) have my hamstrings, guads and adductors fried...:eek:
At first I thought that 10 reps of this and that won't be as hard... BIG mistake!!!:D:D:D

Off to do a bit of work now... gotta earn me some cash!!!

C U,

Chris.

Hi guys.

Such a busy week. Prom is over, thank god, as are a couple other big things. Still squeezed in week 3 of Meso 3. Now, I think I pulled/strained a butt muscle during the last plyo leg workout. Had to stop halfway through. Such a bummer (pun?) because I was so close to finishing the program as is. I will do the last disc tomorrow, and maybe revisit plyo legs this weekend.

I've been watching calories religiously, and have lost about 10 pounds in the last 4 weeks! I've also found that even if I eat almost nothing during the day, and have a medium sized meal right before bed (even staying under my calorie limit), I still gain weight. Late night eating is my favorite. Or, I mean WAS my favorite.

Happy workouts.
Ben

:D:D:D Ben!

Late eating tends to be a way of life after a while... especially for bachelors like me... or ordering junk food!:eek::eek:

In any case... one more STS week under my belt - first of Meso 2. What's with the DOMS settling in REALLY delayed??? Chest and shoulders where fried on Wednesday and bis today... hmmm... Still can't wait for next week to redo 13, 14 & 15.

I get my blood results on Thursday and, hopefully, my doctor will notice if any thing's wrong after taking those damned pills... :(

Have a great weekend!!!!

Chris.

Hey Ben and Chris,

I have to get my eating under control also. Thats what really kills me eating to much of the wrong things. If I can eat 5 or 6 small meals per day I will consistantly lose wieght.

However, I don't know if I can stay on the workout program over the next two weeks. My brother and his wife are comming to my house in 2 weeks and I have to complete the renovations to my guest bathroom. I'll be working on that everyday this week after I get home from work which is when I usually workout. My wife works out in the morning, so I not sure how Im going to fit my workouts in...but I'm going to try.

Well,

Today, I got off early from work, did disk 31 and laid tile in my bathroom. My arms are sore and I'm exhausted but I was able to get my workout in today. Tomorrow is cardio, I'm planning to ride in the morning.

Good nite folks!

Way to go Kevin! I was sure you'd be able to fit in a workout somewhere!!!

I redid Discs 13 & 14 this week, and I am proud to say that I didn't use my lifting hooks for today's leg workout!!! Those forearms are getting their money's worth in endurance training!!!

Also, no DOMS this week... strange... Maybe my body is growing accustomed to the 2-week 5% weight increase... who knows...

I'm taking 2morrow off probably since I have a doctor's appointment for my blood test results in the morning, and the weather is too hot to do cardio at noon...

C U Friday, guys!

Chris.

Finally checking in

Hi guys
Sorry I can't check in regularly. They are really monitoring computer use at work and I am on dial up at home and it takes forever.I know I should get modernized but I don't want to be on the computer in the evenings.I work out right.Anyways I am on Meso cycle 2 disc 19,20 & 21 first week (I am doing 8 week rotation).I like the program.Straightforward gym style exercises which get results.I am already stronger and have more definition.I must admit I get kind of bored with the same footage and the extended stretch but overall a great program.I am looking forward to finshing though as I prefer circuit style workouts etc...I have been adding them here and there with light weights as they are so much fun.I am also doing cardio on off days.I use my curling bar for the lying down tricep extensions.Next week I will try it on an incline.Take care everyone and I am commited to the program just not the computer.
Chris

Hey Chris!!!

Good to see you back!

I love Meso 2!!!! Get a really good pump!

I used my barbell the second time for triceps and used a decline bench... one word: "OUCH!!!"

Today was my second take on Disc 15 and managed to up biceps failure sets by 1 or 2 reps... Forearms were burning too much... had to use the hooks...

I couldn't wait for September and ordered a longer barbell (6ft) and a curved one - plus more weight plates. This way I'll have all barbells loaded and ready, especially for those tri sets... Sometimes 1 minute is not long enough to let me prepare for the next set.

Doing cardio 2morrow - either treadmill or a Hi/Lo/Step premix.

Have a great weekend, guys!

C U Monday.

Chris.
:D

Total Slacker!

Hey Guy's

Haven't been in the men's locker room for a while because I haven't done a workout in a while :-(.

My brother came to visit over the memorial day weekend the week before I spend most of my time finishing the guest bathroom in my house. At first I was able to fit a workout in but as the time approached for his visit the workouts dropped off.

I haven't done an STS workout since then. I feel really bad cause I was on the last week of Meso 3. O well, my bathroom is finished and I had a really good long weekend golfing with my brother and some friends.

I'm going to start a program in June on Monday. I'll either do STS again or a P90X rotation. I'm leaning toward STS. I really liked it and by the end I've fine tuned the workouts and the wieght levels.

Hope yall had a good weekend.

Kevin

Hey all

It's June tomorrow - how about that?!

I've been doing some circuit and full body workouts for the last few weeks. I'm gearing up to do STS again. I really like Cathe's June rotation because it has a little variety - but as I've been thinking about it today, I don't like that we would be skipping discs 4, 5, 6, 9 in Mesocycle one. I guess I'm a little OCD. I'm thinking of doing the program kind of as is, but with a few additions thrown in every once in a while. Some LIC, or BM2, or a week of the other Mesocycles every once in a while.

Does anyone else think it's odd that the spellcheck here on the forms thinks that we are spelling Cathe's name wrong? Cathe Cathe it gets underlined. I know it's a generic program, but it's weird.

Ben

Ben.
I can tell you are a teacher.I am finishing up Meso 2.I can't believe the results.I am stronger but I find a bit to lean.I must eat more.I am looking forward to finshing the program.I am going to start kettlebells.I have the new Amy Bento Kettlebell Dynamics - wow I tried it with a very light dumbell to use as a cardio workout on my off day from STS.Amy is simply amazing. Her energy is remarkable.I liked the variety of moves.
Talk to you later
Chris

June workout

I was wondering what kind of workout I would do in June, then my wife pointed out that Cathe had put out a rotation using STS for June targeting muscle endurance and Fat loss. That's just what I was looking for!

I don't mind that we'll be skipping the sequence, I like that she includes more of other workouts like the Kickbox and bootcamp. I've never done those before.

I haven't heard of Amy Bento, but I have used kettlebells before in a workout programme that was sponsored in the gym at my job. The Trainer jokingly said that he had use them because the gym had invested in Kettlebells so I really didn't get much time with them. Most of the exercises I did with them were modified dumbell workouts so I wasn't impressed. I'll have to check out Amy Bento's workout.

Kevin

PS Dumb question: how do you use the spell check? I don't see one in the forums area

My computer seems to spellcheck as I type. spelcheck. It gets underlined red as I type.

I did disc one of STS yesterday, and was going to do two today, but instead I blew up an inflatable pool without a pump for my kids for about 45 minutes. It's a pirate ship. That counts as some kind of exercise, right? I don't know how I'll enter it into the workout manager :)

Ben

Hey guys! It's been a while, but I've been working REALLY hard...

First off, it was about time I empty the swimming pool, hire a contractor to remove the old paint (lots of blue dust clouds flying around the neighborhood the last few days!!!!) and repaint it.
Then, I decided to sell some property I won on a Greek island and had to do all the paperwork; I just hope it gets sold, I could really use the cash! :D
And in between I was struggling with back-off sets and double wave loads - Meerkat is my new nick... that's how my biceps are after the workout!!!
Had to buy another 110 lbs in plate weights - STS really pumped me up the last 3 months!
Talking about what everyone's doing after STS, I was thinking a few weeks off in August with some total body workouts thrown in there somewhere and then I'll be off for another STS round using the undulating principle: one week of Meso 3, then one week of Meso 1 and one week of Meso 2. Since muscles adapt quickly to a given rep pattern, alternating between 8, 15 and 12 reps each week will definitely shock my muscles more. I plan on using the same 1RM the second time around. What do you think?

Ben - I had my spell checker "learn" Cathe, so no more red dotted lines!;)
Kevin - Cathe's June rotation looks like fun, but I am so hooked on Meso 2 I might skip it...
Chris - Don't tempt me with more equipment!!!:eek::eek: Should I give kettlebells a try in the future? If I sell the island property I might just do it!!!

I'm off to host a horror-flick weekend; some friends are staying over and we'll be watching Last House On The Left, Friday the 13th (the 2009 one), The Horsemen (with Dennis Quaid), Picnic at Hanging Rock and maybe (just mauybe...) Confessions of a Shopaholic... LOLOL

Have a great weekend, guys!!!

Chris.

Spellcheck test. Cathe Cathe

Aahh... no red line.

Thanks Chris, it's been bugging me.

One week of STS round two done. Felt really good.

Ben

Hey Ben

45min of pumping up your kids inflatable pool ? I think that counts as some kind of upper body endurance workout!

I just finished step blast. It took me about double the time because some of the moves were unfamiliar. Got through most of it, except for the challanges. I don't know why, but it's a lot easier to follow step moves in person rather than on a video.

Chris, I really like Meso 2 also but I don't really want to build muscle because of the wieght loss contest that im in at work. They don't take into account muscle mass only total weight loss so this rotation works really good for what I want to accomplish. Your "undulating" workout sounds really interesting. At some point I would like to build more mass.

Does your realtor post pictures of the property you have for sale...I may be interested :) Have fun at your film fest!
