Men's Locker Room Check-in

Damn those pavements in downtown Athens!!!

:mad::mad::mad:

I was walking downtown this morning to run some errands and sprained my right ankle and foot.... Curses to the Mayor of Athens for all those holes and terrible maintenance of pavements in Athens!!! Maybe I should sue them, but in this country it's beyond pointless!
I'm out of commission and will be (hopefully) until Sunday... keep ur fingers crossed... So, no Disc 3 Legs today for me...:(:(:(
In any case, I will be restarting the STS rotation on Monday and give my foot a much needed 4-day rest... and lots of ice!!!

Have a great weekend guys!

Chris.

Ouch!!!

Yes, I think you should sue the mayor and who ever else was responsible for keeping you from your workout! ;-) Hopefully the sprain is not very severe and you can get back to it on Monday.

Yesterday, I did double cardio. I played a round of Golf and walked the entire course. Immediately afteward, I did P90X CardioX. Disk 6 legs is scheduled for today. I look forward to it. I may even try to do the BONUS round.

Have a great weekend!

Rubber Legs!!

My legs are FRIED. Yesterday, I did disk 6. All the squats and weighted lunges killed me. I'm suffering serious DOMS! Not really used to working my legs like that...but I like it! Im going to take it easy today.

Went over my wife's aunts house this afternoon and she made us curry chicken and roti. It was soooo good! I'm still groggy.

Snow Day!!

Storm came up the east coast. I played hooky and went skiing, which is a pretty intense workout.

Hope y'all where able to get to your workouts.

Kevin

"Elmo" push-ups

Did disk 7 Chest back and bi's today. It contains lots of different types of pushups. I found the "Elmo" most challenging. You have to hold onto the top of your workout ball and do your push-up. Says you shake like an Elmo toy when doing it.

I was like....what is this Elmo toy (I don't have kids). I googled it, saw a "Tickle me Elmo". When you touch it, is starts going into some kind of convulsions. Looks a little scary to me ;-)

Anywhoo, you do shake a lot trying to maintain your form while doing pushups on the ball. I had a very tough workout.

Chris, How is your ankle?

Kevin

Cathe definitely comes up with funny one-liners, doesn't she?
:D:D:D

I haven't checked in this week because I'm repeating week one again and adjusted my 1RM results. As they were, they were killing me (both in form and execution) - but no DOMS... weird!

My ankle is almost fixed (thanks to an ointment my pharmacist gave me) and I'm ready to do legs tomorrow! Still, took the safe path and didn't do any cardio this week.

Reading about fried legs etc just put the scare factor right up there!!! Wonder how I'm ever gonna hold two 66lbs dumbbells for the squats!!!:eek::eek:

Talk to you 2morrow to let you know how it went...

Chris.

Ok! Back from Disc 3... Wow... legs not so fried but spinal erector muscles ON FIRE!!!!!:eek::eek: Heart was racing like crazy!
Tried the 66 lbs dumbbells for squats, but NO GO!!! Couldn't hold them even with the hook straps. So I brought them down to 48.5 lbs (my deadlift weight) and worked smoothly.
Didn't do the last 10 minutes, though, the standing leg work. I might try that next week. :)
I loved the plate leg work (even though I used furniture movers and not actual plates) and the one leg elevated lunges. Felt them deep in the glute muscles.
One thing I also found helpful was to put the step with 2 risers (6") under me on the wall squats (the ones where you hold dumbbells) so I could set them on the step and avoid a <90 degree knee angle.
Since I won't be doing cardio tomorrow (to make sure my foot heals properly) I'll be doing the Weights & Plates abs in the afternoon. Let's see how that goes. No equipment abs was much easier the second time.

That's it for 2day...

Talk 2 u later,
Chris.

I had the same experience with disk 3. It was like I had never worked those muscles in that way before! I didn't have the same issue with disk 6, only serious DOMs in my legs.

I went skiing this week so I'll skip the Leg workout for this week and do disk 7 tomorrow.

Let me know how the wieghts and plates abs go for you. I have a lot of difficulty with ab workouts. The no-equipment abls are tough enough!

Kevin

Sounds like things are going well for you guys. The "elmo" pushups were too much for me on my toes. I tried about 1/4 of one and did the rest of them on my knees. Chris, don't injuries seem to happen at the worst times? Glad things are getting better. I ended up doing squats with a barbell because I couldn't hold dumbbells that were heavy enough.

I started Meso 2 today, and it has a much different feel than Meso 1. Mostly 60 seconds off between sets, and it makes such a difference!

I also really enjoyed a week off of weight lifting :)

But, time to get back to it. Hang in there!

Ben

Ben, I am definitely considering using the barbell for squats. I can go much heavier that way (I got serious DOMS in my traps the past couple of days from the barbell squats!).
I ended up doing the weights & plates abs on Saturday. Geez!!! I was pretty relaxed during the hand/ankle weights but when I moved to the plates portion I thought they'd never end!!! I can do the pikes on the stability ball just fine but with the plates my hamstrings were firing up!!! I might have been putting my body weight on the legs and arms instead of the core... well, hopefully next week I'll do better - that's what happens when you don't preview a workout and just take it as it comes to you!!!
Next week is just a repetition of last week (doing the 6 month rotation) - those 30" rests will definitely be enough now that I know what comes next... even though my dumbbells are the spiral type and it takes a while to unscrew and screw the ends... can't afford new ones right now...

Hope you guys are having a great weekend!

C U 2 morrow!

Chris.

:eek::eek::eek:
Survived Imax 2 on my injured foot!!! Didn't bother me more than it bothers me when I walk around... TG!!! Hadn't done any cardio for almost 2 weeks and was a bit worried.

How's everything with u guys?

Chris.

Congrats Chris, I hope you don't have any delayed soreness in you foot.

Yesterday, I completed Disk10. It was very shoulder and push-up intense! I did the push-ups on my knees and it was still a struggle to get through them all. My shoulders were so fatigued by the end of the workout I could barely lift my hands above my head.

Today is a cardio and abs day. I worked out so late last night I didn't do the abs. If it dosen't rain, I'll bike 10 hilly miles. Takes about 45 min because of the hills in my neighborhood.

I think this is the last week in this mesocycle until rest!

Hey, good job you guys. Imax 2 is such a good workout. Glad your foot isn't getting worse, Chris. Kevin, you'll love the rest week! It was such a needed break.

I'm planning on disc 15 this afternoon. I'm finding that my weakest part of my body may be my forearms. They give out way before my muscles do. I bet they'll improve just like anything else.

Keep up the good work!
Ben

Disk 11 done!

Finished Disk 11!

Thought I was going to pass out and drop one of the weights on my head. It's been a little adjustment for me doing this "endurance phase". Most of the exercises are 15 or more with many variations. I find that I need to setup and preview the workouts more because the order of the exercises changes a little on each disk. So it's hard to compare your progress week by week.

Ben, I hope you enjoyed your rest week. I'm ready for my rest. What kind of things did you do?

Tomorrow, for Cardio I'm going to do a Cathe video with my wife. I think it's called Low Impact Step/Total body sculpting.

I'll let y'all know how it goes

Low Impact Step/Lower body fun

Did my cardio for the day, It was a Cathe Low Impact Step. This was the first Cathe Step workout I've tried to do all the way through. It was pretty difficult for me, not physically but getting the Choreography down.

At first I didn't think I'd get much of out of it because I couldn't do the routines smoothly. But fortunately I was doing it with the wife and she showed me the basic moves. We turned a 40 minute workout into about 80 mins stopping and starting over and over until I could get the moves.

It would go something like this, my wife says.."ok,,step..step..no 3 steps then cha-cha into a mumba...!" and I just look at her confused. Eventually I got most of it down. I even waved my arms like the ladies ;-)

Over-all it was a pretty cool workout. We'll do it a couple more times then I'll advance to something more difficult.

KP

Good job with your first step workout! I remember my first one, and it was nothing as complicated as Cathe. Once you get the choreography part down, I think you'll love the cardio challenge. It is my favorite cardio, by far.

So, I could hardly finish disc 15, not because my back or biceps were tired, but because my forearms gave out. At one point, I was thinking about trying the workout another day - and I think Cathe started talking right to me! She specifically said that I shouldn't stop now and then because of my forearms. So I stuck with it, having to stop so I didn't drop the weights. I may have overdone it on the one arm rows, and was fried from then on. Today, I can tell I worked my biceps - but I can feel my forearms the most.

Ouch!

Ben

I am doing 6 month rotation and I am feeling it in my left elbow.I think I 've overdone the push ups.Tonight is disc 7 first time & then next week too.I am dreading the pushups.I think I should go to my knees we shall see.Good work Kevin the stepping will come & before you know it you will be flying around the board.I remember when I started stepping I was so embarrassed / shy etc.... now it is so much fun that I incorporate it regularly in my routine.I actually cut down on the running .
Keep up the good work everyone.
Chris

Hey guys!

Disc 3 Legs wasn't easier the second time around... :( Although I knew what was coming and the rest periods were mostly 30 seconds.
I used dumbbells for the squats and deadlifts again but brought down the weight to 48.5 lbs per dumbbell. Had to put on the strap hooks on the second set of squats and deadlifts.

Kevin, stepping for me is so much easier to follow than traditional hi/lo (although it took me almost a month to get the whole choreography of a workout like Rhythmic Step). Seems to me that the orientation and boundaries set by the step rectangle keep a "mathematical" logic to the choreography. In any case, once you master the steps and combos you won't get enough of it!!!

Ben, get a couple of wrist hooks for your heavy dumbbells/barbell... they work great isolating the back muscles or hamstrings (keeping your effort off trying to hold the weight). What I do is I use my grip strength to hold the weights during the first sets or reps and when I feel my fingers strarting to give up I loosen them up and have the hooks carry the weight. This way I can condition my forearms for as long as I can and then just let the hooks work so I won't sacrifice form and effort.

They will definitely come in handy during the third meso and the 85-90% 1RM. The ones I got face my palm instead of following its curve, and the guy at the store told me these are safer because the dumbbell/barbell is enclosed between fingers and hook. Also, you can use your forearm strength as long as you feel comfortable and when you feel you can't hold the weight anymore you just relax your fingers. The weight stays in place between the hook and your palm.

Chris, I'm so glad there's two of us doing the 6-month rotation (actually, I'm doing the 5-month, repeating Meso 3 just once). Just in time for August vacation - hitting the beach in the STS body!!!

Can't wait for next week when I move to discs 4, 5, 6!!!!

2morrow I'll be doing a Drill Max premix plus the weights & plates abs... major OUCH!!!!
:eek::eek::eek:

Have a great weekend.

Chris.

Hi!

I overdid it a bit today with jogging and then disc 16. I took a couple of days off (Both boys had a stomach bug, then my wife, too. Long 48 hours. I never got it, though), but it forced me to give my forearms a break. Chris, I'll check into those wrist hooks. Today went well, and I lifted heavier on bench press than I have before.

Chris (in USA), the good news is that the push ups are only in Meso 1. The bad news is that you're doing the long rotation :) I ended up on my knees some of the time - have you ever tried using dumbbells as push up handles? I've thought about it because my wrist tingles sometimes at the end of a set, but I've yet to try it.

I'm off to shampoo the carpet.

Ben

Hey guys!
How was ur weekend? Sunny and a bit cool here, Spring finally arrived!

2day was Disc 4 day (plus Ab Circuits Yoga-based abs).
All I can say about Disc 4 is WOW!!!! That's what I call a weight-pumping workout! Although I thought it was a moderate-to-hard workout, by bis-chest-shoulders were fried by the end. Those last 3 exercises of 21's sneaked up on me real nasty! I won't go into much detail about how I managed to get the barbell up on the last couple of reps for the front shoulder press and the bicep narrow grip (it involved a bit of body swinging and foul language!!!:eek::eek:). I was really happy the pushups were not as many as in Disc 1 - but equally challenging.
2morrow's cardio day and I'll either stick to Cathe's rotation and do Low Max, or hit the treadmill and try a Cardio Coach session.

Hope you guys have a great head start this week!

Chris.
