master your metabolism

Mine came today!
I've been reading for about 2 hours.
So far, nothing has completely shocked me, but I do think this is one of the easiest to comprehend formats I've read this info in. So far I'm not completely overwhelmed, but it is crazy how many toxins are in our environment. I really think she is on the right track here. I don't know that it is possible to eliminate everything poisonous in our lives, but I know I could do a lot more to reduce our exposure in our house.
Really, really glad I got it!

I'd be interested to hear if anyone follows all the advice. I don't have the book yet, but listen to her radio show every week. She also recommends using all natural organic skin care, body care, hair care, toothpastes, laundry detergents and even organic cotton clothes.

I buy organic stuff and food when I can, but sometimes it's just too expensive.

I agree entirely! It's one thing to talk about how organic is the way to go, but it can get very pricey!

I agree about the cost completely! I have 5 teen-agers! I can barely afford to feed them at all! I really appreciate that Jillian is the only health guru I've heard admit that organic food is anywhere from 20-100%!!!! more costly than it's non-organic counterpart. She makes a great list of the 10 highest priority organics, the middle 10, and the *don't worry too much*! The timing of this book is perfect for me. I'm finally having an *AHA!* moment!

Organic food doesn't necessarily have to be more expensive. It definitely is more expensive if you buy at the supermarket or Whole Foods market. I have to watch my budget closely but I buy almost everything organic.

About a year ago I joined an organic buyer's club. I get a weekly produce basket of what is in season for $ 40 and I can order extras. The price is about 1/3 to 1/2 lower than what I pay at Whole Foods. Once a month I can order other basics like frozen items, pet food, supplements, cosmetics, etc. - almost anything you can find at a Whole Foods Market, just at 10 to 50 % off. We get it from the same wholesaler as Whole Foods

Ours was founded by one guy who couldn't afford to pay the high prices. It started just with a handful of people and has now grown to about 300 members. I know there are others all over the country, most of them don't advertise because they are not making a profit, or at least not much. If we didn't have one I would have created one

I also buy locally at farmer's markets, I usually get out with several bags and have spent less than $ 50.

You can check out www.localharvest.org to find farmer's markets or local farmers.

This website gives great information about pesticides and what foods don't have to be bought organic www.foodnews.org

I don't think it is so much the organic produce that is expensive it is the other things we buy. Milk, dairy, cheese, meat, cereal, convenience food, etc. My grocery bill actually has come down significantly since we have started eating mainly raw plant-based and I have a 9-year-old and a 13-year-old DS who are eating me out of house and home. However, I eat less than before because I don't have cravings anymore.

Organic produce is very expensive where we live. The prices at the farmer's market are outrageous. We would love to buy organic but simply can't. My husband is always talking about this so I sent him to the store. He had ONE tomato and they weighed it and told him $5.00! We laughed about that for weeks. I live in upstate NY and the primary sources of organic produce are health food stores and a limited supply in supermarkets. The prices at our local farm stand are also exorbitant. If I was just buying for myself it would be one thing but to afford organic produce for the family is just a real possibility. It is a shame really. I have many friends who would prefer organic but just can't afford it.
