Master Cleanser Journal (DO NOT read if easily grossed out!)

RE: Master Cleanser Journal (DO NOT read if easily gros...

Brenda,

I drink 1teaspoon of psyllium mixed with about 1 cup of water. I do this 4 times a day. You have to drink it fast...it thickens quickly. It is hard to drink, but you get used to it. You could mix it in a smoothie with milk and blueberry jelly. That is pretty tasty. That is all I take. Although, I might try the lemonade cleansing. I just need more info on it. I don't want to buy the book.

Hey Brenda,

Other than this cleanse that I did for a 10 day period 7 months ago, I have not done any other type of cleanse nor have I taken any supplements (I take a daily multi-vitamin)! I eat clean and work out about 6 days a week. So...this cleanse was a pretty radical step for me but I am glad I did it.

Hey Teddygirl,

I bought the book at Whole Foods (The Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs). This cleanse is also known as "The Lemonade Diet". Do a Google search and you will find tons of info. The book cost me all of about $6. Other than that, you use all natural ingredients that you buy at the health food store and grocery store. Nothing to purchase from a company trying to make money off of you! You really don't need to buy the book as there is so much information available on the Internet. I posted some links over in the other cleansing thread. Let me know if you can't find them.

Hi Diane57,

I am not a heavy lifter, but have lifted light weights for many years (think "THE FIRM") and am a BIG cardio person. I consider myself to be of average build and have a body fat % of about 16.5 (therefore, I am not by any means a "fat skinny person"). I was also amazed that I didn't lose weight, but the amount of "lemonade" I was consuming was about the equivalent of 1600 calories a day or so (I *believe* 60 oz. is about the equivalent of 1200 calories and I generally added extra maple syrup and drank more than 60 oz. each day.) Soo...even though it's all liquid, you are getting decent calories and nutrients (lemons have the highest source of iron of ANY food there is). In response to people who were afraid of losing weight and/or muscle, Stanley Burroughs states in his book that "healthy tissue will not be eliminated, the only thing you can possibly eliminate is disease and waste". Therefore, if you do have excess body fat (as I did NOT) you will likely lose weight on this cleanse. I didn't lose weight, since I was already pretty lean. Therefore, I fully substantiate his theory...I didn't lose any healthy mass whatsoever and I felt strong (after the first couple of days, that is). I probably lost the equivalent of a pound of "junk" but I am not sure, since body weights fluctuate a pound or two (or more) from day to day. But...my stomach is definitely flatter than it was before the cleanse.

JaneJ,

Stanley Burroughs states in his book that it is preferrable not to take any medications while cleansing, whenever possible; however, if you are medically dependent on something you should keep taking it unless you are under the constant supervision of a doctor during your entire cleanse. Better to be safe than sorry - I personally wouldn't advise stopping non-discretionary medications.

Dianna, thanks again for your thorough response. You've put many of my fears to rest and I may give this a shot!

RE: Master Cleanser Journal (DO NOT read if easily gros...

You are so welcome, Diane! Good luck and let me know if you have any further questions about anything - I'd be happy to share what I've learned. :)

RE: Master Cleanser Journal (DO NOT read if easily gros...

Another thank you to Dianna!

I want to do this, but I'm wondering if I should take vacation days... "Going" at work is something I am not crazy about. But "going" at work as a result of this cleanse and possibly being stuck in the bathroom at work could be embarassing and perhaps detrimental to my job. (I shouldn't be away from my post for more than a few minutes at a time) Any thoughts?

Hi Dianna-

I've enjoyed reading this thread, its been very interesting.

Out of curiosity though, you said that lemons have a high iron content. What's source are you using for your nutritional info? All of my nutrition books state that lemons are 0% iron.
(Lots of vitamin c, though, which would help iron to be absorbed better by the body when consuming another food that has iron in it.)

Take care, Lynn M.

Yes - if it's at all possible, it would be so much better if you are home for this cleanse. Especially the first few days until you get a guage on things. I am with you, I didn't like the idea of doing this while at work and did take vacation time. Privacy is a comforting thing at a time like this. The days I knew I had to work and/or leave the house in the morning, I didn't drink the senna tea the night before, nor did I do the salt water flush upon waking.

RE: Master Cleanser Journal (DO NOT read if easily gros...

Here is some information I found about the subject. It sounds pretty scary to me. I don't want to start a "war" but just wanted to express concern about the procedure and give some other info for the people who are thinking it over. I understand that everyone can make their own decisions but it is my opinion that "testomonials" are not a good way to judge something either way.

RE: Master Cleanser Journal (DO NOT read if easily gros...

Just a quick question... I can't find anything that says lemon contain any iron at all, just that they help with the absorption of iron. Where can I find this info?

RE: Master Cleanser Journal (DO NOT read if easily gros...

Hi Shelley-

I wondered the same thing. In fact I posted the same question earlier this morning.

Take care, Lynn M.

One thing we all need to remember (or learn if you have never heard this before) is that when searching the internet for health information, we always need to scroll to the bottom of the page and see a little blue and red box that says "HON CODE" which means "Health on the Net Foundation". These sites are reputable and their information has all been scientifically proven.

The first site that Pixie9 posted, www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/dc/caz/canc/colc/alert08162005.jsp does have this ranking. It is a reputable site. I would trust what it says.

Allopathic medical doctors (MDs) do not advocate colon cleansing. We need bacteria in our colons in order to properly breakdown and absorb nutrients. Even if you don't trust MDs, you could always apply the principle to a new fad: What did people do before modern medicine came about? Well, they didn't cleanse their colons.

Why are we overweight as a society now? Well, before industry, people had to grow their own food...they expended calories to make the food and then ate it...not too much excess this way. Now we just go to a grocery store and then eat it. Way too much excess there!

If one is concerned about their colon, increase your fiber intake and drink lots of water (drinking salt water is not good for you...really upsets electrolyte balance, etc) This will flush your colon the natural way. And always, as is advocated on Cathe's site, eat clean.

By the way, I also do not advocate Adkins...can destroy the kidneys.

Edited to say this: If you have been out of the country or eated undercooked meat, etc, and you are afraid you have gotten a parasitic infection in your gastrointestinal system, let your doctor know. He/she can do a simple fecal test (may take more than 1 sample) and see some parasitic material in the feces. Then the doctor can prescribe the proper anti-parasite medication to target that infestation. It is not healthy to just simply periodically ingest anti-parasite medication "just in case".

Yes, lemon is high in vitamin C, which helps with absorption of iron. Maple syrup does have iron in (though I don't know if I'd call it a "high" amount), so the combo drink would contain it.

Most of these are talking about colonics and colon cancer, which isn't really the same thing as the master cleanse/lemonade cleanse.

I do think that senna is not a good idea, since it is a very powerful laxative, and it can be habit forming (ie: if you use it over a period of time, your body needs to keep using it to have a bowel movement).

Thanks for the tip on the HON CODE.

They also didn't eat processed foods and the quantity of animal products and cooked foods that we do.
