Mackenzie Phillips

The skeptic in me is wondering if this is true, or a ploy to sell her book. If this happened on tour, wouldn't someone have known about it? And why is she making it public now?

OTOH maybe it is true, he was sneaky enough to hide it from everyone, & she repressed it & is just now remembering it?

If it's the former, shame on her for accusing a man who can't defend himself in the name of money. If it's the latter, shame on him for being such a disgusting pig ("full of love?" Is she serious?).

Jeez, I don't even know what to believe anymore. Especially when it comes to celebrities & making a quick profit.

True or not, it's a ploy. I mean, what other reason is there to make this public knowledge, and to have this be the snippet that gets put out there during a book junket? To let everyone know that incest is bad? Well, I think we knew that already. To warn parents and children not to get really f*#ked up with each because they might end up having sex? Don't really think that's an issue in most families (or maybe I've just lived a sheltered life:rolleyes:).

Or, maybe her life has been so messed up, that this doesn't register to her as being so out of the norm. It's a ploy, no matter what.

Very wise analysis, TeTe.

Chynna Phillips has already come out and said that she believes it, and that Mackenzie had already spoken to her years ago about some of it.

This does happen. And it happens a lot more than is commonly known, because incest and drug use are both inherently secret acts. Just because their family is famous doesn't mean that they are less likely to be screwed up- maybe the opposite.

I have wondered even before this how Mackenzie has remained alive all this time. The woman's body is an experimental playground for drug use and she has always clearly had extreme emotional issues.

Yes this is sick and twisted. Yes she probably has a book to sell, but am I the only one who hopes her revealing something this horrible, painful and shameful will offer some redemption and healing for her? I cannot imagine how life could get so upside down with drugs and alcohol that you end up in a situation like this. I hope this gives her a chance to turn her life around and become a better person.

I don't know that she wasn't always a "better person". All I know is that one way or another, this is a woman in a lot of pain; drug use and being abused in an incestuous relationship doesn't make her automatically a "bad person". I hope she finds a way to be out of pain.

They are both messed up: the father for engaging in this type of behavior with his daughter and the daughter for consenting! It's not like she was a young child and he molested her and she thought the relationship was ok; she was NINETEEN!! You know this is wrong, no matter how many drugs you pump into your system. And I'm sorry, all of a sudden she wakes up from the "blackout" and realizes it needs to end? I don't buy it.

She was 19, but there is always an inherent power imbalance between parents and children. And really, does it seem like Mackenzie was the type of person to be able to deal with regular life in a healthy way, let alone this situation? Clearly, she did not have good parents to help her become a healthy, well-adjusted, stable person.
