Lurker's Invitation October Check In

Despite my best intentions of getting my workout in sooner - I am actually now doing it even later than normal. Last night I came home and decided that all of my fall stuff sitting on the kitchen counter needed to go. So I set about trying to place it around. I decorated (I still have more to do) for awhile and then DH called me in because he just put the door back on the bathroom!!! OMG it looked HORRIBLE!!!!!! :( I had painted it white - but my casing in there was natural pine. The only way to fix this was to paint the door casing white or to paint the door a pine color. It is funny but the door was brown before - but it didn't look so bad?? We actually found a color in the paint cabinet that looked as if it would work. DH had hung all the towel bars and the paper dispenser and I pulled the bathroom together - so it actually looks like a fully functioning bathroom - ummmm . . . except it has no door. I like the color - it looks great.

Oh well - I was so engrossed with decorating (the bathroom and the rest of the house) that it was 10pm when I decided that I had to go workout. I did the Cardio Fusion All step premix as planned. Great workout - the first section was from Body Max II and we ran through all the step routines all put together so none of it was broken down. I LOVED THAT!! Next we did something from Lo Impact Circuit - and then we came back to Body Max to do the power Circuits. You literally could have mopped the floor up with me once it was over! I rationalized that since I worked my abs and my legs yesterday that I needed a rest day for my muscles - and I scrapped the 2 other workouts I had planned. However - I thought that if it wasn't so late I probably would have put on the other little workouts - so there is the problem with starting at 10 or later.

I have to report that I broke down and have ordered Seasun Zieger's Rock Steady Step. I also have to report that I'm not really sorry that I broke down - I think I'm fine with it - and I appreciate your support in enabling me.:D

Michelle - GS are always good workouts. You'll be surprised by how big a difference a 1/2lb makes!!! I was shocked - I put one of those plate mates on a set of dumbells and was amazed at how hard it was!!! I agree that 10pm is too late - even for me. I have tried working out in the morning - but I actually prefer evening workouts - but for everyone, finding what part of the day you have available is always a challenge.

Siderwoman - I mean, Shadowpup: Yes - variety is the spice of life - I have to say your workouts were diverse - and very interesting. I'm in the same boat - I really don't know what I'm going to do now??? I thought maybe it would be nice if someone just told me what to do but then I realized that if I didn't like the sound of it I wouldn't do it anyway.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

So tonight I'm lost - I think I'll look on the Workout Manager for some help.

Hi to Laura - you must be super busy - tell us what you've been up to!
Hi to Janie, Ironlady - hope you are all enjoying your day!!!

Shoegal, sounds like the bathroom project is going well, actually, if you're down to fixing paint colors on the door. It sounds very nice. Funny how colors that seemed fine at one point look horrible once other areas get painted, doesn't it? It's like cleaning just one window on a car. Everything else seems dirty.

It's great that you're able to get those workouts in, even so late. 10pm would have been tough for me. I'm falling asleep about then, most nights, although I'll admit to having used a hotel gym at that time! What did you choose tonight?

And yes, any time you need an enabler, feel free to call on me! :) :) :) :) :)

It must have been your post that got me thinking about BodyMax 2, or maybe it was Michelle and circuit city ... but anyway, somehow that seemed like the perfect workout tonight. I'd bought it right before STS, so I'd done it maybe once. It's 90 minutes of sweat-fest, that's for sure! But very enjoyable to revisit Cathe. Doing the very high reps was a great challenge after all those months of fewer reps. Yikes! The last weights I did were sets of six, with nice rests between, and here we were running back to back of endless reps! I am well worked overall. But ... I am realizing that I do miss the feel of pushing each muscle carefully to the edge, and it's going to be nice to do that again. In the meantime this is also fun :)

Hi to all, and hope your week is going well. I will check in once more, tomorrow, before flying out very early Friday. BTW, my next trip is a long one. I get back a week from Friday, about midnight, and am not sure I'll be able to post while I'm out.

Cardio anyone? This morning I did IMAX3--YIKES! My first noble attempt and I got through the whole workout, but not full out all the time. Probably would have helped to preview it before I did it. But sometimes, I just can't do that, so occasionally I walk on the wild side and do a workout for the first time without previewing. Today was one of those days, and all things considered, I was happy with my first attempt at an extremely intense workout.

Shadowpup: we will miss you while you are away. Somehow, I think that your kids are going to really miss you too. Does your DH horseback ride too? Or are the children all yours? The circuit city workout is fun, but if you like doing heavy weights a day or two each week, you are going to miss that.

Shoegal: CardioFusion is a good workout. I've only done that one once and you definitely get soaked. Oh boy. You guys are all so adventurous with your dvd exercise purchases--I feel like I can't get through all my Cathe workouts, how would I ever manage another series?

BodyMax2 is on my rotation for tomorrow. Seems like we are all getting a little BM2 in this week, one way or another.

Hi to Laura, Janie, and Ironlady.

Hello everyone -

I did Push/Pull last night - I know - that isn't so hard or as intense as some of Cathe's other weight workouts but have to say I enjoyed it. I wanted a weight workout and this fit into my time frame too. Tonight I decided that I am going to do PowerMax!!! I'm all excited to do this one. I need to do all of the workouts on CardioHits. Anyway - this got me thinking and I am going to take an informal poll: what workouts by Cathe or any workout videos for that matter have you purchased obviously because you wanted them but have never done? For me - STS except for Ab Circuits, 1 or 2 of hardcore extreme (for obvious reasons - just too scary) Cardio Kicks (It came with another workout I wanted and I couldn't bring myself to do it) and the Cardio Hits - I'm still trying to get through them. I also bought P90x - and was waiting for DH to do it with me - maybe that will never happen??

Michelle: So obviously you've had IMAX 3 but have waited to do it - that also prompted me to think about why we don't immediately do workouts we buy. I usually get something and am really excited to do it right away!!! But with STS I think it was 1 Rep Max that stopped me and making a commitment of sticking with the program for such a length of time - I don't know why - I am working out anyway?:eek::eek: I love IMax 3 mainly because even the blasts are a little fun routine.

Shadowpup: We need an update on Picante - how is he doing? Is he feeling a little better? Well - I hope you can still check in with us - we will certainly miss you but I know it is hard to do on a trip. BodyMax II is a great workout especially since it has a lot of premixes on it - I like looking for different things in the premix to do to shake things up. The bathroom is in fact shaping up - but I think of all of the things that still need done and I'm a little discouraged. If one tiny bathroom took this long - what happens when we do the vestibule or any other room for that matter? Just makes me think that I really need to hire someone or it'll never get done.

Laura - where are you??? Hope everything is good your way.

Janie - not sure how long your trip was - but hope you can check back soon!!

Have a great day!!

well I am back! Our internet was out for awhile, somehow we got dropped from the main tower we connect into and it took Bo and Whispertell a few days to figure it out. They still don't know how it happened.

So I have been busy as well, it is a crazy schedule we keep during the school year. There have also been birthday parties every weekend! I won't list all the workouts I have done but I have managed to keep my workouts going despite the hectic schedule.

Today I taught Pilates and will teach ski conditioning this evening and hopefully also get in atleast 25-30 minutes of P90X Shoulders and Arms.

Michelle: IMAX 3 is an intense workout and it really gets the sweat dripping, good job doing it blind so to speak. I think I did as well....

Shoegal: must feel good to have that bathroom finished. So what did you decide about the door jam? 10pm workouts! Yikes I don't think I could sleep if I worked out that late. The only workouts I have bought and not actually done are the terminator from the Intensity series and a few body bar workouts. I am bummed because I don't know if you remember but I did that big Cathe purchase awhile ago and I got BodyMax and then it somehow mysteriously disappeared! I also have Cardio Fusion but without the BodyMax part broken down I just haven't been able to get it. I only tried for a few minutes but I didn't have that much time and I wanted to get a real workout in so I just gave up.

Shadowpup: So what have you been up to? I will have to read back further to find about the crazy workouts you have been doing that Shoegal referred to. Have a good trip!

Hi all, almost missed this check-in … Decided to do Insanity, Plyo. Just as hard as last time. Oh my!

Next, Picante report. It’s a mixed message. On the one hand, Picante is feeling much better and has clearly passed the worst of it and is done with his antibiotics. It is safe for me to be leaving in the morning (I feel guilty, but the vet assures me that there is absolutely no reason not to go). And, he was actually trotting around today, and his swelling is down. Poor funny guy – he spotted me around behind the barn after I’d done the evening feeding, came meandering over for a head rub, and then got this horrified look on his face as he realized one of the other boys had started in on “his” food! He tore back like a crazy thing, at his normal speed. So that’s the good part.

The bad part is that, while we more or less know what the problem is, it’s spreading through the region. In a four mile radius, there are now fifteen horses including Picante who have been diagnosed with this. We were number four, and caught it at the earliest stage of anyone so far. This may have started as early as July, as it’s a little sneaky thing in the beginning. But apparently we are dealing with a mutation of the normal form of what they call Pigeon Fever (not related to bird flu – the pigeon description is because the swellings look like a pigeon chest). A nastier version, though, and spreading far faster than normal – hopefully flies, which will die when it gets cold, but no one knows. My boys were not exposed to any other horses, and no one in contact with them has touched another horse in months. And, worse yet, there is absolutely nothing I can do to protect any of the boys from the disease. And, worse yet, the abcesses can be internal, attached to important things such as kidneys, and there is absolutely no realistic way to discover this until the victim starts to get droopy and ill. And in those situations the treatments can take 70-90 days of antibiotics to fully cure. Some horses die of it. Most don’t.

So the upshot is that I have a recovering horse, which is terrific and I’m very happy – but we may have the start of a rapidly spreading new and nasty equine disease, which can be invisible at first, spreads who knows how, and no possible protection or easy way to tell who has it. My vet is worried and so am I. He's working with the local teaching vet school, and monitoring the spread. It's in Oregon, too. All I can do is continue to be watchful and make sure that the kids are in the best possible condition to withstand an infection.

I burned off some worry by planting muscari (grape hyacinth) on Robin’s grave.

Laura, suffice it to say, Eclectic Fun Week lived up to it’s name! Insanity was probably the most ‘typical workout I did : ) Glad to have you back, by the way. I was beginning to think that your flu had gotten much worse. Good job on keeping your workouts going, with everything being as hectic as it’s been. Is it snowing again … ? And very sorry to hear about BodyMax. Perhaps it will turn up.

Michelle, DH doesn’t ride – so the kids will be left to their own devices. The dogs will do okay, except for our lab (he’s a momma’s boy), and one of our cats owns me specifically – she will feel inconvenienced, and mope. Picante is sure going to miss his morning antibiotic! I have been making such a fuss over him as he eats it, and he’s become quite proud of the extra attention. DH will need to take precautions or he will be facing a horse-escape (they sometimes try to find me when I’m gone too long). He will need to lock the pastures up tight and feed on time!

Shoegal, Sometimes the smaller rooms take the longest times. Kitchens and bathrooms are especially hard. Interesting question about unused dvds! I have quite a few dvds sitting around waiting for the right moment! Terminator and IMAX3 are in their cellophane wrappers still. I ordered both with something else, so as to get free shipping, and because I thought I’d do more step. However, I don’t feel ready for those yet. Need to get comfortable with the step in IMAX2 and BM2 again, and lately I’ve been reaching for Insanity or Jillian’s BFBM when I’ve wanted intervals. They are shorter and more intense (more intense mainly because I am not good at the step choreography!). Also, I have an extra Barre workout I ordered with Cardio Barre, a new kettlebell workout from Dragon Doors that sounds great (but I need to do it outdoors, and it’s getting dark earlier), Cathe’s Plyo in STS (since I did the squat rack version instead), and just today I found I really *did* order Circuit Max and Cardio Kicks! I thought I must have dreamed that up, but the envelope they shipped in was just lost. And I haven’t done all of the P90X I ordered – I’ve done many of them, and bought them as a unit, used.

That’s a lot of unused dvds. I guess I order them when I’m thinking of a new rotation so as to have them on hand, and then when I change the rotation I’m planning, they don’t get used right away.

Hi to Janie and Ironlady – I will miss everyone here while I’m gone, though possibly this time I will get a chance to check in.

Hey out there -

Last night - once again - I was working on cleaning and putting the rest of my halloween type decor out. Not as much as you might think - but enough where I'm wondering where to put it next. But I was cleaning and I thought - it is really getting late - but if I work hard and stay focused I can get all this done and work out earlier. Well, in the midst of cleaning my workout room - I'm looking at the box that the Power Tower came in and thinking - I have to get that put together. This box can't stay here forever. So I pull out all the pieces - and it had really easy instructions and the tools right there with it - so I got going. Despite a little bit of trouble in the beginning in which I almost broke down and called DH in to help - I got it all put together & placed it in the room. DH came in and said - What the hell is that??? - I just said it was a really great thing. However - by this time it was late - like 10:30 - and I had to give up and stop the cleaning and horrors of horrors - I didn't get everything done!!!

So I stuck in PowerMax - and it was a struggle - the warm up and the little mini workout in the beginning - snoozefest. It also didn't help that by this time my enthusiasm for working out was greatly diminished. I told myself - just do 20 minutes - shut it off after 20 minutes. Ok - 20 minutes - I get into the first step section - not so bad - not ridiculously easy - not boring - ok - but 20 minutes were done - I'll give it to 30 minutes I said. Ok - 30 minutes - I was now into the 2nd step section - I enjoyed it - not broken down a million times - not boring - not too easy. 40 minutes - it would be a shame to stop now right? I can finish this now - despite getting through the entire workout - I must tell all of you that the thoughts of stopping were relentless. I believed that if I got far enough into it I wouldn't even think about it anymore. No - I kept thinking that I wanted to stop. I prevailed and I am so glad. Overall - good workout - I liked it alot.

Laura - glad you are back too - I kept thinking - gee hope she isn't really really sick. We were painting the door a color that is in the same family as the natural pine of the door jamb. I'm not convinced it will work either - but it will probably be better than the white. It was clearly a mistake. We are not quite finished - but really close. Thank God!!! Did you have the Body Max in your hands??? I was thinking maybe it just didn't come. Oh man - that would kill me. Pray to Saint Anthony - he will help you.

Shadowpup - Have a safe trip - check in if you can. I'm so glad that Picante is on the mend and acting like himself. I have to tell you that this little horse disease epidemic sounds so terrible. The condition itself sounds dreadful - and there isn't much anyone can do which makes it even more upsetting. I hope your boys stay safe. I really do - they all sound so sweet. I'm sure they will miss you.

Hi to Michelle and Janie - hope everyone has a nice weekend!!

No Body Max 2 today--my legs just weren't going to hold up to BM2 after IMAX3 yesterday. So, I did GS Chest and Triceps which was on the rotation for Sunday. BM2 will have to wait for another day, since we are on the boat for the weekend. But I was happy with GSC&T. I did the first set of 16 and 14 pushups (on drop sets) on the toes and then the first 4 on the toes for the set of 12 pushups. After that, everything was knee pushups. I got through all 3 sets of the chest presses with 20#dbs and all 3 sets of the chest flies with 15#dbs. On the incline chest presses, I dropped down to 15#s and for the incline chest flies, 12#dbs. I'm also thinking it is time to up my barbell weights on those thumbless grip presses from 25 to 28 or 30 pounds. My tricep work stayed the same but seemed harder. Maybe because I pushed on the earlier part of the workout.

Shoegal: Yes, I don't always try out new dvds right away. I got IMAX3 last month and it took about a month before I gave it a go. Over the past few months, I've gotten through all my Cathe dvds and done each workout at least once except for Hardcore Extreme and STS. STS is still on the calendar for a January 1 start--and Christmas break will be the time I do my IRMs. About a year ago, I sold a bunch of exercise tapes and dvds on ebay because I just wasn't doing them anymore and couldn't see that I would be. I only kept my Gin Miller original Step Reebok exercise VHS because you can't get those anymore and my Donna Richardson VHS tapes. Donna and I went to college together so I feel like I should hang on to my old friend's exercise tapes although I haven't used them in a while. And I think I kept a couple of belly dance dvds and that was it. Everything else either was sold on ebay or donated to goodwill.

Glad to hear that the bathroom is done. How are the pups?

Laura: good to have you back among us. I think I'd flip if I lost my internet connection for several days. Sounds like life has you running pretty at a good pace. Good for you staying with your workouts. Your girls are always going to remember how you made fitness a priority in your life and hopefully they will embrace that pattern as well.

Shadowpup: Glad Picante is feeling better. He sounds like a bit of a big, sweet goof ball. But this disease sounds very scarey. Maybe you all will get an early frost and it will help to nip the transmittal of this disease in the region. Have a safe trip and we hope to hear from you over the next week.

Hi everyone and thanks, it is good to be back, I missed you guys!

So my husband was able to take the girls to school this morning, Fridays are usually my days for the commute, so I was able to do my P90X Kenpo this morning!:D As I have said before I am having a hard time fitting P90X into my life, I want to really do the 'program' or rotation to give it a real try/effort but with all my other activities it is hard to add it in. So it was nice to have the morning to do it. In fact that is the only exercise I have done today and I have a weird feeling like it wasn't enough! I am only going to do one hour of exercise over the weekend as well and I think that will be a good thing!

So what else to report? I had 3 private clients in Boulder today which is a good thing! Business is slowly picking up for me as far as privates are concerned and that is really where I make money, the classes are more what my husband qualifies as a hobby or even a donation of my expertise! Those of you who are x-fitness instructors probably know what I mean! I had a nice dinner at a friends with 2 young boys and my two girls tonight which was very nice. And I have finally decorated the house for Halloween, it is always so fun to get the decorations out again!

Shadowpup: I am glad Picante is on the mend and it is scary to think of all the cray diseases cropping up among humans and animals alike, sometimes I can't help to get morbid and think that we may be heading toward a significant decrease in animal diversity in our lifetime. If these types of diseases are spreading among livestock, whom we monitor fairly closely as they are either beloved pets or live-hood, it must be spreading among non domestic animals as well. Not to be morbid or extremist but the overall
state of things can be so alarming if you pay attention...On a positive note (and on a subject that we can exercise some control over, pun intended) your workouts do sound fun. I think Imax3 might seem like a walk in a park to you after the Insanity series, I think I am happy with Cathe, and Tony's intensity when it comes to drill right now! Safe travels

Shoegal: I really can sympathize with your body/psyche not wanting to do Powermax that late in the game and after everything else you had done, bu you got through it. I think we have all had days/workouts like that where you just have to talk yourself through it the entire time! Especially jogging for me. Sometimes I just can't get in the grove and I have to say to myself just to that next tree, or bend in the trail or what have you, the ENTIRE run. Other days I am just in the zone!

Michelle: GS are still one of my favorites! Good Job on the push ups and weights for the chest, that is really an improvement for you isn't it? Feels so good to see/feel/measure progress. That being said I am a little concerned about STS in that I have been wondering how far I want to really go with the weight lifting, don't get me wrong I LOVE IT, but I am beginning to wonder how far I keep pushing the weights up? Indefinitely? I am pretty strong already and lifting fairly heavy weights comparatively to my clients. I definitely don't need to build more mass however I definitely want more tone and definition. Lately I am noticing my biceps/upper arms are getting bigger meaning shirt sleeves are getting tighter but not showing more cut. I am not sure I want that....

Good Morning Everyone,

Got back fairly late last night. Was so tired decided to go to bed at 8pm, and got up this morning around 7:30am. How a bout that for sleeping in? Yikes! Anyway, the trip was a huge success, and did everything on the itinerary. Our Chasie was in 7th heaven, with wide eyes and all kinds of expressions. Tina just couldn't get relaxed, but she did OK. Me, I had a ball! Lots of distractions, rides, and swimming. Walked at least 7 miles a day. Had to use skin mole under the ball of my foot for a couple of days for a blister that was forming, other than that, nothing slowed me down. Blister went away in one day. Eating at fabulous restaurants did not do well with the waist line, but, I'm home now and will continue on the journey of losing that extra weight.

I've read all the posts and it seems everyone is doing great on their exercises. Without going into so much detail, Life with all it's ups and downs, are on us all and we are doing what needs to be done. Good for us! I'm so grateful for our little group and the support we all get from it.;)

I've missed this forum and so glad to be home.:D

Need to go to the store and get cleaning stuff for cat messes. Accidents have happened while we were gone, even though Joey looked in on them from time to time. I think they were trying to tell us something.

Will be doing a Step workout sometime today.

Janie

Hi everyone and happy Saturday!

Welcome home Janey! I am glad your trip was a success! All that walking is great exercise, I hope you enjoyed the food!

Well took the girls to town this morning for waffles and I had a interesting meal of crispy polenta with black beans, feta cheese, scrambled eggs, sun-dried tomatoes, and spinach. An interesting blend of flavors. I have been cleaning the house and doing laundry ever since we have been home. It is unbelievable to me how quickly my house gets dirty! I know I have mentioned this before but it really does boogle my mind....oh well nothing I can do about it but clean again!

I am heating up the yurt to do P90X Legs and back. This is the one I tend to miss, I do hit the legs pretty hard through out the week so this is the one I drop. I actually think I have only done it once before and I was pretty sore from it the next day.

Oh and I am curious what people think about the new downloadable Cathe? It sure is less expensive, but storage capacity would be my issue.

Happy Saturday to all my lurker pals. Today I took a break. Between IMAX3 and GS C&T, I've got DOMs all over. Ripken and I have taken a few nice walks today. Watched my Hokies win their football game. A nice relaxing day.

Janie: welcome home. It's nice to have you back. Sounds like a good trip. Going to Disneyworld is all about being in 7th heaven for kids, whether young-in-age or young-at-heart.

Shoegal: hmmm, I always enjoy Powermax. It sounds like you might have been a little wore out. So, you ordered the power tower--I think my husband would have the same reaction as your DH. That's why I figure it is better to have give me the power tower for Christmas.;) He'll still throw a fit, but I'll technically have his buy-in.

Laura: sometimes I wonder the same thing about the weight-lifting. But for me, upper body strength is my weak spot, so I'm enjoying the challenge and the gradual increases in weight amounts. I haven't really bulked up with the weights, but rather toned and gotten more muscle definition. Our Shadowpup and Janie might be able to give us some insights on this question of how much weight-lifting.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.
~michelle

Laura, Oh, I enjoyed everything, it was a wonderful experience. Your breakfast sounds absolutely fantastic. I had something similar in Disney. Great breakfast! I hear ya on house cleaning. I'm doing the same thing since I've been back. Hope you enjoyed P90X legs and back. Not an easy one to do for sure. With the new downloadables, can use them when I travel, go to the gym (wished I had one down in Florida). As long as you remember, somewhat, the DVD in your head. Cathe does cue very well. It makes me wonder though, my Joey can copy stuff onto an IPod or stuff like that. Wouldn't be as nice a set up as Cathe's, but he can do it as one workout at a time, no premixes though, (I don't think). He surprises me all the time though, he may be able to do that sort of thing as well. He's already done a couple for me when we travel and just have no room in the camper to do our exercises, so we do them outside on a player like an IPod. We listen and do our exercises. Kinda like Sean's Omally's Cardio Coach workouts. I use them a lot on hikes and the treadmill.

Michelle, Sounds like your body needed a break from all those DOM's. Good job getting there. ;) What a wonderful day you had. Love days like that! Weight lifting: It's really hard for women to get excessive muscles. We have a layer of fat over our entire body, that men don't normally have. Saying that, though, is not always true. There are some women by hereditary, that can have great muscle definition. If you don't want that much muscle, then do endurance exercise instead. If you lift 6-8 reps as heavy as you can, then you will gain bulk, if you lift 12-15 or more reps with lighter weight, you will tend to tone more than bulk. Stretching the muscles during and after an exercise helps a great deal to stretch the muscles length ways. Also, I suggest yoga afterwords or the very next day, or some type of heavy stretching in-between heavy workouts. Hope that helps. I bet Shadowpup will be able to also give info on this subject.

Today is another day of cardio for me. I really need to lose weight. I'll be doing weight lifting very soon.

Hi to everyone who follows and will be back later today to see how things are going.

Hi everyone,
Beautiful fall day here in the mid-Atlantic. The weatherman said it snowed in Denver yesterday. Way too early for the s-word here. Do you have snow Laura?

Well, my left lower back/hip is feeling quite gimpy. I did a very light workout: upper and lower body sculpt and stability ball abs. Felts great afterwards. Moving and exercise helps, sitting or laying down, and the muscles are unhappy. Boomeritis, I guess.

Janie: I'm no technology geek and don't own an ipod (yet), but it sounds like you can download Cathe's workouts to an ipod and then plug in to a tv and play them. That's pretty nifty. Are you going to be doing a rotation to get back in the swing of exercise or just going with your instincts each day? Sister and I are doing Cathe's April 2009 rotation this month. I'd like to get a a couple of good yoga dvds--the ones I've had in the past go too fast. That is, I feel like the routine doesn't allow enough time to hold the pose and feel the stretch. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Laura: Janie gave some interesting information on weight-lifting. We'll see if shadowpup weighs in (ha, no pun intended). Also, if you'd like to provide some insights on good yoga dvds, that would be great.

Joe and I were watching the Redskins game and FOX is having technical difficulties. Unbelievable. Little Rippy is stretched out sleeping--he must be chasing rabbits or squirrels because he was just galloping in his sleep. Joe's arm is feeling better and his leg is still on a slow mend. He gets the wrist x-rayed in 10 days and he is hoping the cast will come off. I'm not as optimistic as he is. He is definitely going to need to do some physical therapy for his arm once the cast comes off.

Hope everyone is having an enjoyable Sunday.

Michelle, What is boomeritis? Joey is going to Las Vegas to visit our son the doctor Man, Dan. While he is gone (about 3-4 weeks), I'll have an opportunity to do a rotation. Don't know which one yet. I have lots of yoga suggestions: Aerobic Yoga, by Ganga White and Tracey Rich,Rodney Yee , Shiva Rea, David Swenson, and Doug Swenson, (look at some of these on Collage Video to see if you like them or not).

Sorry about your technical difficulties, that's a bummer. So glad Joe is feeling better and on the mend. That must have been very stressful for you, I know I would have had that worry look too.;) He'll do good with the physical therapy don't you think? Enjoy the rest of the day.

Janey: You might have been in Oregon when boomeritis was a topic and featured on Cathe news. About 3-4 weeks ago there was an article in the Philadephia Inquirer (I think) about baby boomers and their addiction to exercise despite nagging injuries, over-extended muscles, etc. They interviewed Cathe (there is probably a link to it somewhere on Cathe's website or here in the forums). Anyway, the physician interviewed in the article referred to this phenomenon of baby boomers who keep on pushing the exercise horizon despite their age, aches, and pains as boomeritis. I'm right at the tale end of the baby boom generation--so this is my new diagnosis for my occasional strained muscle: boomeritis.

I love the pictures from your vacation Janie. That doesn't look like the Disney World my grandparents took me to when I was 12 years old. Sure has changed.

My lower back is feeling better. It's really when I sit that it bothers me. Going to make work interesting this week. I'll just have to stand up and walk around more than usual to keep the joint/muscle from stiffening up. Joe thinks I should lay off strenuous exercise for a couple of days, particularly lower body with weights. He is probably right. Of course, the rotation calls for pyramid lower body today. Might not be the best idea to do that and give the glutes a rest. As Scarlet O'Hara says, tomorrow is another day. And I'd sure like my lower back/hip/butt to feel better.

Maybe, I'll compromise and do a couple of Cathe stretch routines later.

Laura: in response to your question about the Cathe downloads. I'm intrigued. Since everyone who preordered STS Cardio will get the downloads for free, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all works. I'm not a technology geek; I usually wait for others to jump on the new technological options and work out the bugs before I give it a go. Not sure about the space issue. Adding storage space on a computer is one of the least expensive options these days. Could be a good reason to purchase an ipod with more storage space and memory, if, like me, you don't have one of those gadgets yet. I didn't check the specs on the downloads to see if SNM gives information on how much space you need on your hard drive. They probably do.

Hello out there -

Had a busy weekend - trying to keep DH motivated to do the last little bit of things in the bathroom. He kept at it - so I think I can relax now. All of the toiletries I moved out - I moved back in. It was stuff I don't really use but want to keep. I cleaned - did more decorating and then I had a little Harvest Halloween get together with my Mom & sisters & my friend Amy. We get together and buy each other a gift and then decides who gets what. Fun to see what it is - and we are totally into the seasonal items so it is exciting. Ate and drank too much - but I didn't eat all day so I'm hoping it evened itself out. I have more Halloween things to set out now.

I am also preparing for my last major event of the season. I usually have an Autumn Bonfire. I got my invitations out late and now a lot of people are no shows so I'm kind of bummed about but it should still be nice. Wish all of you could come - I'd love that!!!

Janie - glad you are back!!! Thanks for posting those pictures - it looked as if you had a fabulous time. I loved the shot of the beach with all those black stones. I'm guessing nobody really lays out there. LOL :D Chasie looks as if he was living large - the pool looked great!! The Aquarium was fascinating too. You have to let us know what you'll do for your rotation since Joey will be out of town. Why don't you visit your son as well - I wonder - or is it just a guy thing?

Michelle - Sorry about your lower back troubles - I hate all the aches and pains I have now. I'm really not that old - right? Oh well - I think exercising will keep us young so I'm going to keep at it. I'm with you - I actually do have an Ipod but I'm slow to jump on board technologically speaking. I waited a long long time before giving in on the cell phone - I just don't need to be available to anyone ALL THE TIME. My DH likes his Ipod and uses it often - I'm afraid I don't use it as much and I certainly don't use it to work out.

Laura - I am going to look into the downloadable Cathe to see what its about - but in what situations do you envision using something like that?? I usually don't worry about bulking up as far as weights are concerned. We all know that it takes very heavy weights for women to get large body building type muscles. Don't you remember that 20 Questions about Fitness the Firm had tacked on to a lot their workouts?? I still remember what they said about it. Only about 10% of women have the special muscle composition to build big muslces and then only with lifting weights much heavier than they used in their workouts - but women can increase strength by 44% without actually increasing muscle size. Saving STS - we aren't really lifting much heavier. I don't really bulk up too much - but then I always feel like I make strength gains and then some losses - so it seems as if I'm always trying to get back to where I used to be.

Hi to everyone - hope you have a good day!!!
