Lurker Invitations Feb. Check-In

Whew, lots going on here today.

I have President's day off but I'm working today and will bank the day for a holiday swap later in the year.

Did Body Max today--just the cardio and circuits portion. I'm still rotating with S&H--and yes, I am feeling my triceps today.

Shoegal: your pup had a mouse? Eeek! What kind of dogs do you have? I've never seen a dog with a mouse in its mouth--that would freak me out too. I live in semi-suburbia, so my golden retriever is usually on his leash when we go for our walkabout, although he plays with his dog buddies in the neighborhood off the leash, but they all stay in one area. Plus, he is so mommy focused that he has to keep me in his sight at all times so I don't worry about him running away.

Elle_p: so cool, you are a Catheite now. I'm working on it.

JanieJoey: I'm sure Joseph has a lobster bisque recipe. I'll have to ask him what he suggests. Alot of the time, he will pull out his cookbooks and seek inspiration in devising a recipe that pulls a little bit from several recipes. He's gotten really good at knowing what spices and herbs work together. And he's got more kinds of oil in the cabinet than I could even begin to name.

Laura: your lack of exercise inspiration has to be the cold. I don't feel like working out when I'm sick either and then the guilt sets in which is just silly. Be good to your body and get well. Then ease back into it. Sounds like you are staying plenty active to me with the skiing.

finishing up with my check in

I thought perhaps I ought to tell everyone what my workout is today: Step Blast - decided on this because people mention it - and I think - well, why don't I do that???? It is the power of suggestion. I'm not big on planning, planning, planning - and I decided that since I didn't finish my 1 REp Max testing I ought to put off STS another week. I did think perhaps of doing Boot Camp - only because I thought my DH might work out with me. He got me a coupon for Valentine's Day for 1 free workout with him. I don't know why this appeals to me so much but I kept thinking it would be so great. He can't do step blast as he knows so very little about stepping - but I think it would be an absolute blast to watch him try. I think perhaps I have a somewhat evil steak in me. I'm torn between absolutely blowing him away with something hard - or having him try something more his style and easier. Any suggestions?

Michelle - my pups are German Shorthaired Pointers - usually used for hunting purposes but my girls don't hunt at all. I am just in love with them - except when they bring home mice!!! My sister's pup - Harold - is a golden retriever and she says the exact same thing of her puppy - he is very intent on his people - he loves his people - everything else is secondary. So I have no doubt that your Golden loves you best. They are wonderful puppies.

Janie - Glad STS is coming along - you seem to be enjoying the hard work. Keep it up.

A Big hello to everyone out there - hope you guys have a great day.:D

Hi You Great Lurker Gals! I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!:D

This is kind of a little sad post:( for me but as much as I LOVED checking in with you wonderful gals and getting to know you I've kind of overbooked myself with another check in. Because I have to pace myself as for my energy level I decided to stick to the smaller of the two which is the other one. I will definitely miss you gals.:( And I didn't want to just dissappear without saying anything. Janie thank you for this checkin because it got me started in checkins and getting me more involved which has been a motivating and enjoyable experience.:) If it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't have joined any checkins so a BIG THANK YOU to you for getting me started!:D I'll definitely see you all around the forums I'm sure and maybe I'll see some of you in Cathe's STS checkin. Who knows, I may even sneak a peek once in awhile to see how everyone is doing.:D

Love to all!!:)

Twinkletoes, Aww, that's what this thread is anyway, you know. Getting your toes wet and getting enough gumpf to reap the benefits of other check-ins. You grew wings, now have a great time out there. Do sneak a peek and don't be a stranger. You are welcome here anytime. Have Fun!

Shoegal, I love getting sweaty with Step Blast. Whew! For a step workout for hubby, something easy, he just may come back for more.

Hi Ladies,
So today still kinda dragging, I wanted to take the kids to the mtn., but they didn't want to motivate, and being a holiday it could have been a mad house, so we compromised with a cross-country ski up the road. So to be clear, these ski in general don't count as a work out for me, the girls go at a very slow, steady pace, think tortoise not hare, but it gets them active and I am up and moving around...

I had Butts & Gutts on the calendar, back & forth I went, finally decided to go up there and do a little...and low and behold I did the whole thing! And I have to celebrate bc I am so much stronger than I was when I 1st did that DVD!!YEA!:D:D:D:DI love to feel the improvements along the way, it is so motivating! So I hope that feeling of success while blow me out of the plateau funk I have been in!!

Back with personals latter, have to get dinner for the family, but I will miss you twinkletoes!

Janie, thanks for the tip on the Meez! Very cute. How are you getting the Meez to appear? I can get the link inserted for mine:

http://www.meez.com/shadowpupmeez

Hmmm, that does not get me a display. Looks like you have saved yours as a gif. Maybe one of these will work:

Aww... Miss ya twinkletoes! Congrats though on finding a group your comfy with!

Last night I did MM and then turbo Jam CP#3, that one is my fave, puts a smile on my face everytime!

Laura- Congrats on doing the entire BUTZ and GUTZ!!! Awesome job!

Janie- How is STS going? Joey still haning in there?

Shoegal- That is funny, your DH gave you that coupon! I would have a hard time deciding too. On one hand you want to prove a point that you are in better shape than him but on the other you kinda want him to be motivated to maybe continue to w/o! Toss up! Good luck! (Step Blast would prob be a bad idea:p)

Happy Tuesday everyone. Another day with S&H chest and back. I've still feeling those triceps from 2 days ago and almost switched to legs and shoulders today, but I was pretty sure my legs would have none of that. So, I stuck with chest and back and managed to get through the back segment without any twinges. I think I've also figured out those dang overhead lateral presses. I think my problem was 1) the dumb bell I was using was too heavy and 2) I was bring my arms down too far in the overhead movement. Cathe recommended not coming down as low and really concentrating on pulling up with the lats. Those really do take a lot of concentration.

Twinkletoes: Sorry to hear that you are leaving us. Hope us dog people didn't chase you away. My sister who is a cat person (call name catchick65) and I have had a running discussion about how many dog people there seem to be on the forums. Maybe us dog people just "talk" more.

Shoegal: I love step blast but you may never get another workout coupon from your husband is you go with cash in with that one. Boot camp might sound more appealing to him. Quite frankly, none of them are easy, especially the first time around!

Laura: love B&G. Good for you getting through the whole thing. I haven't done that one since November. So many Cathes, so little time. Big sigh.

Shoegal: more on dogs: german short-haired pointers are great pups. I'm most favorably inclined to breeds in the sporting group. I don't see many pointers in my part of Virginia. Lots of labrador retrievers here and goldens. Or maybe I just notice those breeds more because I used to have a lab and now I have a golden. Do your dogs hang with you when you work out? My golden is my exercise companion. He knows just where to lay when I'm doing step and usually is at my feet when I'm doing weight work (unless I'm doing lunges). The stretch at the end is always his favorite part of any routine because he can get right next to me while I'm stretching. Frequently he gets a little bit of love in the process too.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Check In Tuesday 2/17

Tuesday already??? No - no - I mean, It's only Tuesday??

Yesterday I did Step Blast as I said I would. I'm a woman of my word although as a woman I reserved the right to change my mind so nothing is a guarantee. As I ran through the combinations - I kept thinking this isn't so bad - I had absolutely no problem. I had done this one other time before and remember being rather tired at the end but did not remember why. When we got to the blast and she did all three combos - I sort of thought she would run through the combos together a couple times and this would be the "blast." As all of you know - I was wrong, wrong, wrong. The last blast portion - I was most definitely "gasping for air" but in a good way - I love getting to that point. We all do steady state - and train in our zone - it is nice blasting that away now and again.

I decided that I'm doing Maximum Intensity Strength this evening. Don't know why - I know I've done this before but I don't remember too much about it to be honest. There are just so many out there I haven't explored all my Cathe workouts to be very familiar with them all.

Laura - isn't it funny how workouts "work out" sometimes. I know there are times when I get all ready to go and just don't make it through and quit. Other times - you think - I'll just do a little - and lo and behold you did all of it - good for you!!!

Michelle - Exercising with the pups is not a good scene. They insist on sitting in the most inappropriate spot and me being the wuss I am don't have the heart to tell them to move. Then - like you said - they look all sweet and super cute and I stop and love them up. Usually they stay with my DH and I much prefer that so I can concentrate - and not step on them.

Twinkletoes - sorry to lose you here but glad you are still checking in. See you around the forum!!

Shoe report: Flats - again. This time super, super, super cute plaid ones with this knot looking detail on the toe. Sort of looks like a bow not pulled all the way through. Love these shoes. Who am I kidding I love all the shoes!!!

Will see you gals tomorrow - have a great day.:)

Hi Everyone
Tuesday check-in: taught a good beginner/intermediate Pilates class with a thera-band, and one lady actually popped herself in the face with the band & busted her lip>:eek::eek:

Did the Kickbox cardio only from 4DS. Love that one!! Cathe is so pumped and motivating.

Shoegal: I hear you on busting through the steady state zone! I love that feeling really gets the endorphins kicking!

Michelle: Great job on the Slow & Heavy series, I have thought of adding that one but if I get the fun money I will splurge on STS instead.

Tracy: I love MM too! It is a great all over body workout! I had fun doing the turbo jam with my mother in law over xmas!

Shadowpup: love the avitar!

JaneyJoey: how is the hubby liking STS?

High Five to everyone else! Keep up the good work!

Hi again,
I was just entering my w/o in the workout manager calendar and noticed that I have definitely NOT worked out as hard this month as last month. But at least I managed to be somewhat consistent over time, especially considering that thing called life that continues to get in the way of my plans!!

I love that feature b/c it keeps you honest! Do any of you use it, too?

Good Evening,

Sorry I didn't post earlier, but I had to take my little dog in to the vet. Her breath smelled so badly. She is doing fine, there is tarter build up but doc says even if she had her teeth cleaned, the tarter will still build up. I think I'll have her go in for teeth cleaning twice a year. She is 11 years old and getting up there. What a doll baby she is, the bestest doggie I've ever had.

Not enough time for personals, it's been that kind of day, but will catch up tomorrow.

Did The Wedding video (step up) tonight and will do Disk 8 in the STS series tomorrow. Back and triceps.

Joey has two left feet, but he's doing great in spite of that. I'm very proud of him to do the STS series with me. He will finish it with me and then we'll do it again.

Hello

Well I got on the bandwagon and will be doing a 6 month rotation. Now if I could clean up my eating, wow, I would have spectacular results. Oh well, at least I am strengthening my bones for the later years. I had a free bone scan performed at Costco last month and my results were great.I didn't expect such great results as I did not have much milk as a kid. I attribute the results more to my years of on and off weight training and LOTS of treadmill work.

Janie-how did you get your Joey to workout with you? It took an act of congress just to get mine to do Cathe's stretch workout. Wow, I am going to try to impress upon him that if he workouts with me he will live longer and we can be together longer.

Laura-Love B&G but I can never do every single rep, it has me gasping! Awesome and motivating to see your improvement in that area.

Shoe-gal- We need to hear about more about heels. I wear flats all the time at home so I must live vicariously through your heel reports.

ladubose-I use the workout manager calender daily and your absolutely right, it keeps one honest. A great motivator.

Shoe-report- rather plain almost unattractive thin soled ivory corduroy slip ons by Toms. I swear they look like something you could find at your local drug store next to the flip flops. My teenage daughter begged me for them at Nordies. I guess they donate a portion of their sale proceeds to some organization for people who don't have shoes. So after wearing them less than twenty times and rolling about underneath her bed with Jimmy Hoffa, food wrappers, dirty undies, pop tart crusts, chewed up erasers, and much much other garbage, I washed em and wore them. DD sees me with em and has a tantrum. I told her to give me the $40 I paid for them plus and extra $6.95 for washing them and she could have them back. No response from her.

Well off to do STS. Have a great day all.

Booboo

Check in - Wednesday

Hey out there -

Did MIS yesterday and Ab Circuits: Yoga based abs - can anyone actually lift themselves up off the ground and levitate besides Cathe and some Cirque Du Soleil performers??? I'd really like to know if I'm just fooling myself into thinking I am in pretty good shape - and everyone else in Cathe land has this mastered?? I couldn't even make the "attempt" as she suggested. I tried - but the feet would not lift up - absolutely refused despite my coaxing. Usually I dismiss not being about to do this stuff as something I'll be able to do later - but I'm not so sure in this case.

Shoe report: OK BooBoo- I did wear heels today but I know that you clack around in your own stilettos from time to time in shoes I'd die to have. I am wearing yet another pair of BCBG Girls black slingbacks with this round silver buckle on the toe. YEs - I know - another pair with a buckle. These are different cause the buckle is round - and they are pretty high. Seriously on sale - couldn't pass them up. Saw Carrie's S&TC wedding shoes on ebay for over a thousand in my size. Actually considered what it would take to get those.

I have a dinner to go to tonight and I'm thinking that I probably will not (gasp!!) work out. I'll get home in time to let the dogs out (who, who, who, who, who!!!!) and then freshen up - leave to make the reservation and then drink some wine there - afterwards it would take an act of God to get me to do it. I know my limitations. Does anyone think that if I do LONGER workouts on other days - it will make up for the day I missed? Or is that wishful thinking? Yes - the food part of taking care of myself is killing me - yep - I can workout and I can workout - but I can't keep the food out of my mouth!!! I'd give up eating if I didn't love it so much.

Laura - I just started using the workout calander - I love it too. I have the hard copy Cathe workout calandar with the stickers too - I like doing that as well - but I'm not as consistent with it.

Janie - What kind of pup do you have??? Glad that she is alright. The wedding video is one I don't have but was always interested in - how do you like it?? Do you think it's hard?? How long is it?

Hi to everyone - hope you have a super day.

Checking in finally!

Hey All!!!

Well, I did MM Monday, Janie I LOVE this wo but it was a challenge, not the wo necessarily but figuring out how to set up for it in my VERY LIMITED space! It did give me a better idea what I will need to do when I start STS... will be setting up in the bathroom for the space

I use the WM it does keep you honest and shows where improvement is needed :D Kick Max was on the calendar for Tues and I didn't get to do it :( Hate when I can't mark 'em done and change that color!

Janie, my father has had to be trached as he is not breathing well enough to supply oxygen to his body, along with many other problems.... He is and has beenfor a long time in very poor health . He is the reason I workout.... do not want to be where he is! Thank-you for asking. Glad your doggie is okay!

Shoegal-- I love MIS miss being able to do it I have VHS and no VCR right now and have not sprung for the DVD version.... it's on my list cause I have the other wo's on VHS that are with it! :D SB is on my calendar for Friday! Love your shoe reports... I wear the same pair to work everyday.... uniform you know!

Ladubose--I just watched the clips for 4DS the other day and I think I may have to have it!
Think the cardio would go nicely with STS and then I'll have another split to do after STS! :p

Everyone else... Hope your day was a good one! Good Night All!

Wow I am so sore in my obliques! I think the combo from my class and the kickboxing and also serious DOMS in the place right between the glutes and the hammies from B&G on Monday. You all know that place where every woman could improve!:D:DThat's why we love to hate the B&G!
So today was long steady state cardio with a 21/2 hour hike in the the foothills of Boulder with my 10 month old Great Pyrenees. I did a little bit of trail running but not much to count...

hope you are well.

and for me shoe report...barefoot as usual but with a very nice pedicure....

Good Evening,

Finished with disk 8 today. It made me feel tired all day. I bet it's because I need more protein. I'll have more next time and see if that doesn't make a difference. Tomorrow will be a cardio, haven't decided what to do yet.

Booboo, I have to clean up my eating too. It's so hard! Joey works out because he knows the benefits of it and also know the dangers if you don't. He's a very intelligent man. That's funny about the corduroy slip one. LOL!:D

Shoegal, My fingers hurt trying to levitate like Cathe. She must have wires on her and someone above is pulling her up. How does she do that? I'm going to keep trying though. Hope you had a ood dinner out. My Mollydog is part chihuahua and yorky. She imprinted herself on me when she was a youngster. She never leaves my side. When I go out, she does nothing until I return home to her. Very loyal, loving and gentle. She has a good 4-5 years left with her breed. We will make them her best years. Joey has two cats, which prefer him. We are a happy family of mixed breeds, human, canine and feline. I love the wedding video. It's between intermediate and advanced. The cardio is 50+ minutes, then there is weight training afterwords. I only do the cardio part.

Hi Sherry, MM is a very challenging especially when you have limited space. I hate it too when I can't get to workout as planned. (((((hugs to you))))) and hope your dad is at least comfortgable. I'm sure it's very hard on you. Vent away, we are here for you. I'm also working out because of all the unhealthy habits my famly does too. I can relate.

Laura, Isn't it funny how the thing called life gets in the way!LOL!:D, but true. Joey is sticking it out with STS. We will do it again once we are finished with this time around.

Keep it true everyone and have a great evening,

Janie

Check In - Thursday

Hello All -

Did not work out last night as planned. I knew it was over after the wine. Had a lovely time at dinner though and I quite enjoyed myself. It is nice to see my husband unwind and relax too.

Too bad that won't last for him - tonight I plan to "cash in" my coupon and have him do Boot Camp with me. I even put it on the calender - somehow I know he is going to put up a fuss and will find someway of getting out of it. What good is that coupon I ask you???? It says no where on there that I have to wait until he is good and ready. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Shoe report: loving that everyone has jumped in reporting on their shoes - so I'm going to report on the latest reports:

Laura - nice pedicure - nothing wrong with that. I am all barefoot in the summer - or I'll slip on crocs when I go out to garden - but when I'm around the house I'm basically barefoot, have socks on or I'm wearing my sneakers to work out in. The heels come off!!!!

IronLady: I feel for you - the same shoes day in and day out??? How do you live??? In a way - I am jealous. It is always a chore to pick out what I'm wearing and then I have to iron it and blah, blah, blah. Sometimes I put it on and take it off and put something else on and take it off - this could go on and on - then I have a pile of clothes that need to be put away and I'm still naked. I would never be late to work again if the clothes & shoes were already decided. This is the root of my problem.

Janie - I feel the same about my girls - they are a part of my family and in my heart for sure - love them dearly. They give so much joy you just want to give back in some way by being good to them. I also think I'm going to have to break down & get the wedding video - I'm glad I'm also not the only one who can't levitate!!!

Hey - anybody watching the Bachelor??? Impressions? This week it was "the most dramatic rose ceremony ever!!!" Yeah ;) - that is what they say every week - I get a huge kick out of it - they tend to drag everything out until you want to kill yourself - and it all ends up happening the exact same way every single time. I haven't actually watched too many of them - but I know I didn't miss much. This guy says this to every girl before he sets them free: "You are the most amazing person and I'm better for having known you." After having heard him say this multiple times to every girl you don't believe a word he says anymore.

Hope all is well out there - have a great day. Love to hear what everyone is doing.

So it looks like today is going to be an unintentional rest day! I wanted to take the girls skiing but I couldn't motivate them to go and I want it to be fun for them. I have met some people who grew up with over enthusiastic skiing parents who made them go and that made them hate to ski:confused::confused:I don't want to do that but also feel sometimes you have to push their comfort zones a little. So I went back forth all day until it got to late. I guess they won by attrition!:p It was such a beautiful day and I hated to waste it. Oh Well....

Shoegal: dyeing to hear about how the DH does with bootcamp! I have been trying to get mine to DH but he is self admittedly terrified!

Janie: did adding protein help with your energy? last week on the biggest loser there was a young contestant that had fallen below the yellow line twice and Bob put his reputation on the line and took the risk to say he actually needed to up his calorie count and it worked! He lost 12 lbs in one week. I love watching that show, and seeing how hard these terribly fat and out of shape people workout!

Ironlady: I am so sorry to hear about your father, it does motivate us to be in better health when we watch a loved one suffer. YES 4DS is one of my fav.'s right now. It is great when time is a factor and lately I have been playing with the premixes, which there are a ton of , so you really get 30 workout options on those 2 discs.

Booboo: great job on those strong bones! My mom took a hike with me in Boulder on her visit and twisted her ankle and it turns out the bone fractured! She didn't even fall down just a little twist and crack went the bone! Yikes! So good luck on the 6 month rotation!v When are you starting? I need to clean up my eating too! Let's do it together.
