Lump found

Yes, I have. I had uterine cancer before so the lump(size of a grape) was frightening. They did an ultrasound and found it to only be more of the fibrocystic lumps that I seem to keep. That was two years ago. Also my grandmother had breast cancer so this is in the family. I am very careful about my yearly checks and self exams.

While I never had a lump, a mammogram did show an "inconclusive" spot. Boy did that ever freak me out. I had to go in for an "emergency" mammogram and they were prepared to ultrasound me and biopsy me on the spot if they needed to. It is very scary, I know. Just try to keep busy and reassure yourself that it is probably nothing. If it is something, then you are catching it early and will be able to get it handled!

Take care and I am thinking of you.

I'm glad you've had so many reassuring responses, Cathy. As a nurse, you would know a lot better than me, but my understanding is that most lumps turn out to be benign, and even in the unlikely event that breast cancer is present, if caught early these days, most women survive and go on to lead normal lives.

So please relax, have a nice dinner out with a few glasses of wine, and, as others have suggested, keep your mind busy with distractions.

And please report back.

Thinking of you,
Nancy

Dear Cathy,
I just want to say that this also happen to my mom, only it wasn't
on the surface. They did a biopsy and it wasn't cancer.
I often read the forums but have never replied before... I am just
very moved and impressed how everyone seems to rally behind someone
like you all have known each other forever. Maybe you have. I hope
that all is well for you. Oh, yeah my niece had a benign lump removed
also. I'll be praying for you.

Cathy I know how unsettled you must be feeling. A while back I was told I had something they wanted to investigate on my left breast but subsequent tests turned up that it was a fibroid. It was a relief to say the least but did cause me some anxiety. Hopefully you'll know more next week and you'll feel much better.

Whenever I see this type of post I can't help but feel so much love and understanding. I am 33 and my mom has had breast cancer, her mom, and her sister. I had a scare in April which turned out to be nothing. I had a sonogram and mammogram and I know the waiting is hell. All I kept thinking was that I have three small kids but at the same time I tried not to stress HA HA and tried to function as if I was going to defeat whatever it was. I always fear the worst when it comes to my breasts. My mom's mammogram just recently found something after being 5 years cancer free. She had am mri which showed a calcifcation (sp) under scar tissue. My sisters have each had lumps which turned out to be nothing. One sister even had a lump removed becasue it had changed shape. Ulitmatly I just want to say it is probably going to be nothing. With my history my sisters and I have been so blessed so far. Just know most of us how you feel and how hard this weekend is. I truly wish you could feel how intensly I feel for you and wish you so much love and prayers. Please think positive. I am glad everyone has helped ease your mind. Know that you will be fine. Please know that. Karen

Thanks so much everyone for your support and well wishes and prayers. My diagnostic mamogram is Monday morning and my ultrasound is next Monday. In the meantime, I am taking everyone's advice and keeping busy and will be going out tonight for a few drinks. Even though I am not a nurse (thanks for the compliment though), I do realize that most bumps are benign and the stories everone here has shared with me, make those statistics more real to me. Thanks for sharing them with me. I shall keep you all posted. Thanks again.

Cathy, I don't have any first hand experience...but just wanted to know that I have you in my thoughts and prayers......and I have been putting off getting a mamogram for far too long and your post made me realize that.....I am calling on Monday. Thank you and take care,
Donna.

Hi Cathy!

I hope everything is okay for you. They found a lump in my breast at my very first mammogram. They did an ultrasound that very same day and then sent me off to the specialist.

He did a biopsy and it ended up being a benign adenoma. I hope yours turns out to be the same.

At the very least, thank you for reminding me that I need to go for my yearly mammogram. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Good luck..

Tammy

Cathy: please keep us posted. My mom also had a benign cyst removed. I know it was stressful for her, the waiting.

I have not experienced this either. But my sister did. She had a lump that turned out benign. I can only imagine the things that would go thru my mind. Sending prayers and hugs your way...http://cybergifs.com/hearts/hbare-hug.gif[/img]...Carole

My thoughts and prayers are with you, and, as others have said, there is a high probability of its being benign.

Ooops, sorry Cathy! I must have mixed you up with someone who was a nurse. Another senior moment for me. ;)
