Lifting like girls

Hi all.

First day of high tensile strength today. It always takes me a while to get into programmes, so I'll reserve judgement.
Long warm up (15 mins) including foam rolling, a good hip opener sequence and some activation exercises. In future I'll skip the foam rolling and do it in a different session.
The main workout took 45 mins, but will probably come down to 35-40 once I've got the hang of it. It was 3 different supersets, 4 of each:
KB DLs x15 (24kg) + DB incline bench press x12 (12kg)
Cossack squats x8 each side + 1 arm rows x10 (15kg)
Half kneeling rope chops x8 each side + farmer carries (2x25kg)

The KB is the heaviest I have, and didn't really do it for me, so I'm going to have a rethink on that exercise. I'm out of practise on these high reps, and misjudged the weights for most things. I could have gone higher for the bench and rows. The rope chops will be felt in my triceps tomorrow! Farmers carries is really a grip test for me.
Since I didn't feel I'd had a 'proper' workout, I followed Karen's example, and did another this afternoon:
http://www.bodyrock.tv/workouts/bodyrock/bodyrock-elevate-day-14-butt/

I guess I was kind of hoping I'd get her butt and legs if I did the w/o!!!!

Lisa, I love circuit max- I used to do that sort of thing all the time, and should do it again. I'm impressed you've never haf a drink. Plenty don't drink, but it's rare to find someone who never has. Good on you! (I've never had a macdonalds- is that similar lol) . My real addiction, though is cheese....any sort. Smellier the better.

Roz. Pistols. 7. 3 sets. You are amazing! Good work on the front squats, too. Tough move. Quads of steel.

Tom, those are some great ohp numbers. Great weights and great volumes. And front raises - an empty BB is enough for me!!

Envious of the snow. Wet and mild here. Lib, have you had snow (I'm not sure where you live), can you get out on your bike at the moment?

Off to wrap presents, since I've an evening to myself.

Wow, you are all so strong! I love reading all the reports.

I didn't feel like pulling out the laptop today awarding out for an hour. So I popped in T25 alpha cardio. I actually made it through! Had to modify about half, but That's okay. It just proves how strong I am getting! The scale hasn't budged an inch. But my coat is looser! And my student worker keeps poking my tricep saying there's a difference. She's a nut. We see each other about once a week.

I had a rather scatterbrained squat session this morning.

(((HUGS))) Roz. 'Tis the season for nasty colds. I think you did amazing even though you felt scatterbrained. I can't complain because I don't have a cold (knock on wood) but I felt scatterbrained this morning too. Misery does love company, yes? Hope you get better sleep tonight.

Lisa, how about a pink elbow band instead???

Well, Tom, I was actually going to suggest an elbow compression sleeve to wear during your workouts when you're feeling tweaky. I have a Zensah elbow compression sleeve and it is, in fact, PINK! They come in other colors, if you find that pink offends your masculinity. ;) You might find some relief with the compression. Just a thought. Throw back another cold one tonight to celebrate your killer workout.

Weight plate lunge

Pardon my ignorance, is that a lunge while holding a plate itself instead of a BB or DB? Great workout for you, as always. I bet chocolate wine is a real thing.

Justine, Karen, my DH had wine for the first time in his life a few weeks ago and said it tasted like hand sanitizer. Not really sure how he knows what hand sanitizer tastes like...I'm thinking he must have just had some cheap stuff. We were at someone's house and they served it to him. I think he's scared to try it again. And Justine, I really try to be a food snob because I know some people like their fast food (NOT saying that you were being a food snob either) but you're not missing out on McDonald's. I used to eat it as a kid all.the.time, but then didn't go there for years until I was pregnant with DD1 and the only thing that didn't make me want to puke when I thought of it was a McDonald's cheeseburger and fries. Go figure. Of course now I dislike it even more because I associate the stuff with first trimester nausea.

The rope chops will be felt in my triceps tomorrow!

Seems like these would kill the obliques, too? Great workout. Agreed that the jury will remain in deliberation until you get a bit further along in TS.

Lib, T25 is NO JOKE!!!!!! You should feel so proud.

Did I mention that I did GS BSB today? Felt totally weak on back, normal on shoulders, and extra strong on biceps. Not sure what gives but I was happy with the biceps at least!

Yes, Lisa. A weight plate lunge is: lunging while holding a weight plate over your head. Needless to say, I'm extremely careful with these. One slip, and I'm talking through my nose. That's the best scenario.
Interesting about the McDonald's cheeseburger and fries. My first trimester nausea food: wait for it......sweet and sour pork. Ohhhhh. Have a good night everyone. I'm off to work out.

So Pi$$ed off right now, couldn't finish the bicep part of arm day.I know its been coming, getting a little worse , but I had hoped it would spontaneously improve, but NOOOO! I decided to start with the tri portion first in hopes it would warm me up. The last arm day set 1 of curls darn near killed me but was able to work thru it and things got tolerable. Today tri's were fine as usual and I did 6 sets of skullcrushers, 3 sets of push downs and 1 set of 25 tri pushups. On BB curls, I started with 75 x8 and lived 85 x8 and survived 95 x8 and was still breathing then I died on 95 set 2 and quit at 3, 85 I had to quit at 5 and 75 at 4. I tried preacher curls and couldn't do a rep with my left, same with conc curls. BUMMER!! I found some elastic sleeves and used them, but it didn't work the miracle I had hoped for (Maybe if they had been pink Lisa???) They are only a problem on pull stuff, , not push, so I may have to do shoulder, leg, chest for awhile and give a rest to biceps things. I feel like I am missing a "mission in life" by quitting and it's a day I will never get back, but probably should have rested sooner and maybe wouldn't be here! Anyone with previous experience and miracle cures, please "advise away" I hope all "Sistas" have a better day than 'GRUMPY GRAMPY!!!

Hey, GG!! Is it tendonitis? I have the same thing in my right elbow. Every time I do heavy bicep work, the tendonitis speaks. I'm trying to work around it. But, how do you do that? I know what you're saying. It is a PITA.
I have been trying too Karen, but couldn't make it happen today. I dunno what to do about it, thinking of trying some anti-inflammatory's (ibuprofen) and rest(that's the part I really hate!!) Anything ever work for you before??

Mine has been going, since my firefighter days. Coupling, uncoupling hoses, swinging an ax, all that kind of business, has just sent my elbow into overdrive when I lift heavy. I'm trying to ride it out, but some days are better than others. Think I will try the anti-inflammatory route, see what happens. On another note, your workout was great, and at least we're doing something, that doesn't include daytime TV.
My workout last night was:
Single leg squat to a box
Pike pushups
Chin ups 3X5 and then 2X10
Bonus:
Bicep curl 10 reps
BW tricep extensions 12 reps
Mountain climbers 10 each leg, 3 rounds.
Hang in there, Tom. Have a good one, everybody!

Sorry to here that Tom. I don't know what to suggest, other than rest it, but that's probably not what you want to here. There was a post on the open forum, I think, about a similar problem. Suggestions of strengthening the surrounding muscles to balance things out, and a link was posted for a pt exercise. I'll see if I can find it. I reckon your biceps will be just fine without working them for a while. Perhaps do more leg work

Karen - I had a similar day to you, same moves, different format. Amrap in 13 minutes of single legged squat to a box (12" box, 69 per leg), then amrap of divebombers and pull up (70 of each). Divebomers morphed into push backs and pull ups ended up assisted, but, heh, I got some volume in. That was it. Busy day.

Lisa, funny about your dh and the wine. You get to like it with practise. In my case, quite a lot of practise!

First trimester food? Pork pies and lucozade. I always say that's why she's a redhead.

T25 speed 1.0 ......I swear the preview of it last night looked MUCH less intense than it actually was. Part of it is my nutrition. I know I'm not getting enough. Plus, It's hard to figure out what I need for it. I got a little light headed.

I'm amazed I am doing this. Even with the modifications and a couple of extra seconds here and there to lower my heart rate some.

Tom, this was the thread about dodgy elbows. Clare has some useful wisdom (as ever), and the link from dirtdiva looks interesting . You may have already seen it, but just in case:

Thanks Justine, I checked it out and some great advice ( I didn't want to hear!!) Been taking some ibuprofen and will lay off bis for a while ( also lats unfortunately!) I do have some wrist splints I got for thumb issues and may try them at night. Really don't want this now, feeling like I was getting some good body changes, but I think I can still work the rest of the upper body and legs. This has been an issue off and on for years. On a good note, my shoulders are less painful than they have been in a long time and that's great! Thanks again for the info!!!

Tom, dang! Commiserating. Injuries are the worst. We can all relate. I do what Justine said--do other stuff, work around it. Maybe you can't do traditional bi work but you can still do pull-ups, pushups, your shoulder annihilating workouts, and your fave LEGS! I broke my ankle last year and did LOTS of boxing for cardio b/c it was the thing that didn't hurt (ask Roz, she probably got so bored hearing about me doing boxing in our previous check-in). You will get through this because you are a COMMANDO.

Karen, Justine, I kinda feel left out of your leg workout party. And you both wanted pork-based foods for your pregnancy nausea? I think I had pepperoni pizza a couple times, does that count? Justine I will tell my DH he needs to keep practicing on the wine drinking thing.

Lib, more T25???? Woot woot!

Roz, hope you're enjoying your rest/yoga/walk day.

Today I did Boxing w/Leg Blasts Live (4/30/15). The intensity on this one sneaks up on you at the end during the blasts, but the first 30 mins (before the blasts) would be good SS cardio for you, Roz. I got to wear my pink gloves so that's always a winner. I think I'll do the most recent Live tomorrow.

Anyone seen the latest Star Wars? I think I am the only person in the US who has no interest.

TGIF!

No, you're not the only one. I have no interest. The last Star Wars I saw was probably around 1980. With the big walking "things." Mark mmm (can't remember his last name). The guy that was Luke Skywalker is my age. I hope Luke is long gone. No one wants to see an old guy with a pot belly flying around with a bald walking carpet "Chewy," and a gray menopausal Princess Leia. (sp) Certainly not me, and again, just my opinion. My kids have seen all of them, and have read the books. So I'm sure they will be buying tickets.

Karen, I'm glad I'm not the only one. If someone as cool as you has no interest, I no longer feel like a loser. You and I should get together for a cup of coffee and a Trader Joe's run while the rest of the world is fighting the crowds to see Star Wars.

Great workout for you tonight!!! My back and core have sympathy DOMS from your slam ball moves.
