Lifting like girls

We usually stay in for the New Year. Too many amateur drinkers out there. Some of them are already ramping up their game. We received several inches of snow Christmas Day. It's been so cold, none of it has melted. It's become a real comedy routine watching these clowns. Like my Mom would say. It's funny until someone puts out an eye. I have a very good friend that is a lead court clerk. She dreads the new year, and all the DUI's. Today was HoCo. I think you all know how I feel about HoCo. Nuff said. I will talk to you all on Tuesday. Be safe everyone! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

LAST WORKOUT 2016...only fitting it be a LEG DAY!! 6 sets of bench squats, 3 x15 gob squats, 3x10 deadlifts, 3x20 barbell calf raises, 3x20 single calf raises and for abs, crunches x50 x30 x20, seated knee ins 3x25 and cable crunches 3x25. I really want to thank you, the ladies of this forum, for motivating me to "get my arse" to the basement and while I may fail a few leg days, you always motivate me make it up! I am going to take the rest of the year off, but I will see y'all again in 2017! Thank you my friends for what was probably my most consistent year of lifting, Justine, Roz, we would love to have you check in and say hi so we know you are ok! Karen, good call on the staying in...idiot epidemic this time of year!! Be safe Commando Sistas, see ya next year!

Thanks for the advice. I think I will try to reschedule days off. I keep thinking I must follow the plan set.

I have been battling something the last few days. Finally broke the fever (that I didn't know I had) last night.

I am now down 31 lbs! It's mostly from stress. I am trying to eat healthy. Oh! Has anyone tried the cauliflower as mashed potatoes? Walmart had them in the frozen isle. I don't mind trying them, but I am wondering if I can sneak it by the kids...lol

My dad has been scheduled for surgery on his a m, the nerve is severely compromised and they have to operate or he could loose it. The problem is they discovered a serious heart problem and told him he has to have heart surgery...he refused. They explained the seriousness of operating on his arm with his heart condition...they have scheduled only the arm surgery....guess I know where I got my stubbornness from.

I have a new respect for deadlifts! I woke up yesterday and my quads and hammies were sore and I expect that from LEG day, but my traps were " lit up"! I used the same weight for 3x10 deads that I use for shrugs, but usually do 3x25-30 on shrugs and I can never get them sore....I was elated! I also had ab doms from the 9 sets of ab stuff and I was tickled about that! Today was chest and tris, 12 sets of bench and 10 sets of isos after bench sets, and 4 sets of pushdowns ( added 5#) and 2 sets of tri pushups. Start your engines Commandos, it's 2017!!

So my husband is reading one of his bicycle racing mags, saw an advertisement for Pickle Juice to stop and prevent leg cramps. Sometimes his legs cramp after a long ride. So of course he bought some from Amazon. I've been having leg cramps at night, every once in awhile. He took some for a leg cramp the other night, and the cramp was gone in an instant. I've tried it, and I must say, this "stuff" is amazing. So, if you're having problems with cramps, "Pickle Juice," is the magic. Tastes just like juice from a jar of pickles. It is expensive, so I think I'm just going to buy a bottle of dill pickles, and drink the juice. Just to see if it works.
Today was an upper body workout. See you all tomorrow. Just had to let you know about the pickle juice. Have a good evening!

Karen, I laughed when I read about the pickle juice. Son 2, while playing college football, talked about the trainers having pickle juice on the sidelines to prevent cramps (think cramps might be better than pickle juice...not really).Back and bi day for me, 4 sets chin ups (first set a piece of cake, last rep torture!), 2 sets of pullovers, 4 sets pulldowns, 4sets ez bar curls (upped the weight 5#) and 2 sets conc curls. Curls are always tougher on back day than arm day due to pre exhausting bi's on back stuff...whew!! Lisa, Lib, whats up with y'all? Hope Tuesday is good for everyone!

Karen, I have heard of pickle juice for muscle cramps and also soreness. Let us know if the stuff from the Vlassic jar works as well as the pricey stuff! I didn't know your DH was a cyclist! Cool. How was your New Year's weekend?

Hey, Tom, glad you got your legs done on Saturday. You would have been in trouble if you hadn't! Great way to end 2016. I agree, I am grateful for the fun and support that goes on in out check in. I do miss our other friends but at least there are still a few of us remaining! Hope you had a great New Year's.

Lib, you feeling better? Seems like everyone I know is sick right now.

So, for my workouts: Saturday = Circuit Works plus Barre Live, Monday = Cross Train Lower Body Live (never done this one and it was super sweaty, so obviously I loved it!), Today = RWH HiiT Upper Body Circuit.

Is it ever going to stop snowing?! We are getting buried and have been housebound now for 2 days. Blech. Got some of my wiggles out with Keep the Cardio Coming Live (12/22/16). Second time doing this one and it is as enjoyable as I remembered.

Good Wednesday to you all

Karen, have you been able to get to work? My DH went to work this morning but came home semi-early to do some middle of the storm shoveling. We're still supposed to get snow until about midnight tonight, but shoveling 7 inches tomorrow will be easier than shoveling 14 inches!!! I guess that's engineer thinking, huh? ;)

I ride with DH now. I was driving myself, he was never sure about his day. Now we drive together. So far it's worked out ok.
Today was a new Mark Lauren workout. He has a couple of new ones. This one was very interesting, really liked it. My upper body is still sore from Monday. I could barely dress myself the last couple of days. So, I didn't want a weights workout. This was very different, and challenging. That's about it for me. We do have a Winter storm warning tonight. So, just waiting and wondering about the morning commute. Have a good night, all.

Karen. I rode a bike some in dental school, really liked it..should do it again. Lisa, that's a LOT of snow..hate that stuff, winter in general! Today was shoulder day. Pretty much the usual, did up the weight 5# on side laterals, rear delt flys and BB front raise.8 sets strict press, 2x8 seated dumbbell press, 3x10 side lat, 3x10 rear delt flys, 3x10 front raise and BB shrugs x30 x25 x20, finishing with 25 cable crunches. We do have snow today, but I think it is only a couple of inches (still too much)! Good work friends!

Karen, hope you can dig yourself out of the snow today. We're working on it. My DH worked from home this morning but will go in this afternoon. The biggest problem is neighborhood streets. They don't get plowed at all. This is why I can't drive my car because I get stuck literally backing out of the driveway. Did you buy new Mark Lauren DVDs?

Tom, as always you showed your shoulders who is boss. Looks painful. Only a couple inches of snow is definitely still too much but sadly that sounds luxurious compared to the mountains of crap outside my door! This is the most snow we have had at any one time in 30 years, according to the weather person.

I did today's Live, Body Blast Boot camp. My legs were hurting so good. Fun!

I don't know where the snow plow trucks were last night, but, they were not on the streets. We did manage to dig out. Tonight's forecast is....0 degrees. Some of the snow did melt today, so tonight's temps will turn the whole valley into a skating rink. Those guys with four wheel drive trucks (you know who I'm talking about, we've all seen them) that drive everywhere at break neck speed, because four wheel drive can do anything! will find themselves really off road tomorrow morning. Glad I will not be on the road.
Tonight was an upper body workout. I am still sore from Monday. (WTH) I decided to do Ramped Up Upper Body from Strong and Sweaty. Very good upper body workout. I'm sure I will be in traction by tomorrow morning, adding insult to injury. But, I did like it.
I have to admit. I did make a few Park City runs over Christmas holiday. The snow is spectacular. Just wish it would stay in the mountains, and leave the valley dry. It's good I don't live in Park City, I would never make it to work. Well everybody, that's my update. Have a great evening all!

TGIF!! Arm day (luv it!). With the added 5# was still able to go tri pushdown 5x10 1x8/ ez bar curl 5x10 1x7, kickback 1x15 1x20/conc curl 1x8 1x10 and finished with tricep pushups/ 21's. Really cold here this morning -4 burrrrrrr. Tomorrow I am heading to FL for the National championship football game Monday and my oldest grandson's birthday Fri, I hope the weather is a big improvement! I will try to hit as many w/os as I can, the Commando creed ya know. Hope the weather improves for you Karen and Lisa...cabin fever SUCKS!! Have a ferocious Friday!

Karen, same here. Where the heck are the snow plows? Why do we pay taxes? Hope you aren't really in traction from your UB annihilation because the ambulance won't be able to get to you, lol! Yep, seen a lot of overly confident 4x4 truck drivers too. Our high right now is 3 and the low is negative 3. More snow for tomorrow but the real fear now is that next week is supposedly 6 days of nonstop rain which means, you guessed it, flooding! Wth? Is the same thing in your forecast?

Tom would you stop bragging about your trips to Florida warm weather, ha! Do you have tickets to the game or do you just want to be close to the action and hang with your family? Great workout today, know how you love those arm days.

I can hardly remember what I did this morning. Yep one of those days. Turns out it was Rock it Sock it Live boxing (12/31/15). I am thinking total body or upper body for tomorrow. TGIF

Lisa, my son did buy tickets..said it was my Christmas present! Karen, it's great you like to ski because winter is always a total bust for me, don't like anything that's done outside in cold weather. Well, today was something different! I decided I wanted to deadlift heavy for some unknown reason and I decided to do some thrusters!!! those things are awful, don't see crossfit in MY future! I did some light sets x5 at 45, 65, 85, 95. The front squat is awkward, I'm just not flexible enough to be comfortable but I am going to do them because I need to come out of my comfort zone and I think I will get better if I do them and it is sort of cardio...right Lisa?? Then I decided to do some pullups and my first set was with a 20# kb x8, then a bodyweight set x8. Next I got into the deadlifts, hitched up "me ole belt" (NOT PINK) and did 205x5, 255x3, 295x1 335x1 and a new pr 355x1! That one was slow but was got! That is the first time in a long time that I tried to go heavy, I don't think I have had over 300 on the bar in awhile. I finished with a sumo set 255x8 which is a LONG set for this old guy..was puffing after that one! I finished off the torture with abs, 3 sets of crunches, 3 sets side planks and 3 sets of cable crunches. This I guess was my "adios sucky weather" w/o, but it looks like Sunday will only be mid 50s!....but it does warm up into the 70s by Tuesday..(.really sorry for the "salt in the wound") lol! Hope the weather improves for you guys, being housebound isn't fun. Lisa, I really hope you don't get into flooding with all the expected rain. Hope y'all stay safe and have a great week! What's up Lib?? Hope all is well with you!

Tom, you get a big smiley sticker for getting your heart rate up there with the weights today! And of course the smiley sticker has perfectly, straight white teeth, appropriate for a dentist! High fives for that PR. Cold weather clearly motivates you to get in some killer workouts. I'm with you on skipping out on the Cross Fit, though! Enjoy the game. That is such a cool Christmas present! It's been snowing all day. Tomorrow the rain is a-comin'. Our City Mayor has issued a state of emergency. I'm not really sure she has the authority to do that but she's approved tapping into the budget for extra snow plows and resources to keep the community safe, and I'm all for that!!!

Today was Fitness Fusion Live (8/6/15). A favorite of mine, and the weighted leg work leaves me walking funny the rest of the day!

Have a great weekend everyone and see you Monday!

Headed to son 2's gym last nite to do chest, but last week and Sat I strained my neck doing, of all things, pullups! I couldn't get my head to go back on take bench, sounds stupid, but was really uncomfortable. I did about 3sets and had to quit. I knew I probably couldn't do shoulders, back is how I injured it in the first place, legs are...well you know, legs, so what's a guy to do????... Well, obviously arms!! 5 sets of tri pushdowns/ 5 sets ez bar curls 1 set conc curl, 1 sets 21s and 2 sets kickbacks. The funny part of the story is that the pulleys on the pushdowns must be magic! I had to move up to 170# and friends, It wasn't 170, no way I do pushdowns with that. On my home rig, while it has some friction, I use 85# of plates. That may be heavier due to drag etc, but NOT 170! Have a great start to your week and if it make y'all feel any better, it's cold ( for here) been in the 40a at night. Lisa, I don't know where you are, but I was thinking California and I have been hearing about flooding there. Hope, if so, you guys are ok! Have a great week ladies!
