Levitation Holds !!

I've had the STS Abs Disk for a while now, but yesterday was the first time I did the Yoga-based workout, and there were those darn levitation holds again! I already can't do them on the Core Max workout, and here they are again, but now with Cathe extending her legs out besides! (Although, I noticed the camera didn't pick up any of the other exercisers doing that.)

Somebody tell me the secret, please.

Wendy,

Thanks for the idea about the yoga blocks. I guess I'll think of them as training wheels!

Any more ideas, anybody?

Thanks,
Jane

LOL I noticed the same thing about the camera not showing anyone else!

I posted a similar question regarding these little buggars and LauraMax actually had a great suggestion: engage your pelvic muscles to pull your abs up and in while lifting up. I'm a wuss so even with this tip I can't master them, but it did help me improve!

Melissa,
Thanks. I'll take improvement for now! :)

My biggest problem is that my arms are too short! LOL! Even if I could hold the move, I can't get but maybe 1/2" off the floor and my arms are as straight as can be! Yoga blocks sound like a great idea!

Try crossing your legs in a lotus position. Somehow it seems a little easier if you don't need to focus on getting your feet off of the floor.

Just keep at it!! :)

First off, I haven't succeeded yet but I keep trying...

My hands won't get in that position with the fingers straight, just for starters. I've been trying holding 10 lb neoprene coated dumbells. they don't slide on the floor and have flat sides so are stable, and they hold my hands elevated about as much as if my fingers were straight. I still can't do it, but I'm putting out a strong effort...

Oh my goodness! When I first did this workout I was in awe! Cathe has always been amazing, but this....this blew my mind. And she talks through the whole thing! Holy cow! When she extended her legs I just had to laugh! I do the little bouncey thing on my butt - and even that is hard! It makes me laugh every time I get to this part of the workout though!

Great tips on how to work on improving! I'll try some of them.

I'm with you- even if my ass had less padding, my arms aren't going to get too far below it!

What DVD is Cathe doing them with straight legs? I don't have STS and wonder if it is on Youtube. I would love to see that.

Yeah, Cathe extending her legs while talking the whole time just about blew my mind too. The levitation holds are all about your core and concentrating and contracting up on that spot in your center. The work is not in your arms although my wrists do get that crinkly feeling from doing these. After 2 years, I can do a fairly decent levitation hold with my legs/feet crossed. I attempt to straighten my legs and my butt just hits the floor, but it's the journey that's part of the the fun.

I think the key is in the pelvic floor contraction, as LauraMax said. There's no way the feet will come off the floor without that deep contraction/lift. My pelvic floor is shot from a particularly traumatic childbirth experience, and I can't even begin to get my feet off the ground. It's like there's no mind-muscle connection whatsoever. I look at levitation holds as The Ultimate Kegel :D.

I'll still keep trying, though, because as Cathe says, even attempting to do the move is doing me some good. Of course, attempting them more than 2x a year would also help......

If you go the YouTube on the Cathe website, you can find it. Look for STS Abs Circuit video. It's about 6:50 into it. Pretty short clip, but still amazing.

I am able to do a x legged levitation hold and tried the straight leg for laughs. My heels hit the floor immediately! :p

Both of these statements made me laugh so hard! So true!
