Kitty Update

I wanted to say thanks again to everyone for their kind responses to my post about my sick cat, Ivy. This morning, she clearly was not better, and even weaker than yesterday, so I called and arranged to have the vet come give her the shot at noon...but just a while later, sweet Ivy managed to die quietly on her own, on our bed and with her favorite blanket. My daughter, husband and I were all with her -- it's a balmy morning, so we had breezes coming in the open windows, one of Ivy's favorite things! It was all very gentle and peaceful, and you know how grateful we all were for that. I feel blessed that we had a couple of sweet final days with her, and so fortunate that it went quickly and easily.

I really appreciate everyone's sharing and caring through this. I'm sure you know how much that helps!
Thanks again,
Allison

My thoughts are with you at this sad time. Although you were strong enough to make that decision I am glad you didnt have to go through it. Big hug to you and your family.

Aw, Allison. I'm so sorry. But, as my husband said when our ailing 13-year old dog, Willie, died in his sleep a few years back: "He was great even in the end. He kept me from having to do something that would be one of the hardest things in my life." I'm glad Ivy was able to go on her own, with all of you around her, on her own terms.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I know how very hard this is.

Allison, I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers today.

I am so sorry you lost your beloved companion today. I am glad and hope you are comforted that she went peacefully. Having to euthanize a pet is one of the hardest things. I went through that last year with my Mattie. I hope this little message I'm copying and pasting from the Rainbows Bridge website gives you some comfort.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbows Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Awww... I'm sorry that your kitty passed. I'm glad it was peaceful though and that you had some final days with her.

Big hug, Allison. We had to put down a beloved cat last summer due to liver failure, it was one of the two most gut-wrenching experiences of my life. I'm glad you were able to have it happen naturally.

Allison,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Have you read the book "Cat Heaven"? If you haven't, I HIGHLY recommend it for times like these. I'm also happy that you didn't have to have her put down because I'm sure that's a weight off your shoulders, despite the pain of your loss.

Take care and remember - no one is truly gone until all who have known them are gone, and all the good they have done is gone. :)

((((HUGS)))))

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but after having to make the choice of euthanasia for far too many cats in my life, and having seen the cats I grew up with as a child die on their own, and another one last year die on his own, the latter is much easier to take (IMO) than the former. At least you knew it was her time, and she was able to pass away surrounded by love.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Your sweet desciption of the event brought tears to my eyes. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Jean

Thank you all, so much! This kind of support truly makes the sadness a little lighter. I know you understand how it feels to lose our dear Ivy.

Thank you!
Allison

To pass over with a balmy breeze blowing over you and all you loved one's by your side. Ivy died the way she liked to live and It doesn't get any better than that. All my love to you and yours.
