What do you do with all of your kid's artwork. I am over-run with it between my two boys. I do throw a lot of it away, but it is still overwhelming. Any creative ideas out there?

Mindy-

At the end of every month I put the boys in front of the fridge with their artwork displayed and take a picture. The I keep a few that are very special and put them in their scrapbook. The rest have to go in the trash. They come home everyday from school with something else. It would be way to much to keep!!!
Good Luck

Maybe not so creative, but I scan the better stuff and save it on my computer, then discreetly ditch it. If it's too big to scan, take a photo of it, then toss it!

DH keeps everything they do -- every paper, drawing, project. Drives me nuts! But I like to be selective and toss the rest (when nobody is looking)!

Oh! Great idea about taking a picture of things. Then we can make a scrapbook some day! I usually keep some of the better things and store in big storage box, but a scrapbook would be really neat for them to look through w/out getting all the stuff out! Thank you :D

I use a cardboard box for short-term storage. That is a quick way to deal with projects that come out of backpacks every day, just toss them in the box. Periodically I sort through it (WITHOUT the kids around) and toss a bunch of it. What is left we put up in our garage "art gallery". The kids pick their favorites, and we hang them all up in the garage. There is tons of room, we all get to look at it each day, and it doesn't clutter up the house. After a few months, it all looks faded and grungy, so we take it down, throw it out, and put up new stuff.

I haven't done it in this house, but in our old house, I hung a line around the ceiling (with string) of the boys' room and took clothes pins and hung the artwork around the room. The ditto stuff gets trashed as do a lot of the little drawings he does. The really creative artwork got hung. He loved it. In kindergarten (last year), my oldest son's teacher was SOOOO great, she laminated the art projects and made every parent a huge scrapbook of all of the year's artwork. It was the most special reminder of how wonderful kindergarten was. On the last day of school, she gave them to the parents, and the very last page was a really sweet poem that she had put about her students being like flowers in her garden and now she was passing them on to a new gardener to tend. SOOOO sweet. I tear up every time I look at that sweet book.

Ohhh ahhh, the obsesive compulsive purger/organizer in me got tingles reading this idea. Well done!

Great ideas. It is overwhelming how much work my girls bring home from school. When they are at home, they love to color, draw and make more artwork!! I could literally wallpaper my house over & over again with their work. I especially like the digital picture idea - thanks :D

I also scan the best stuff on my computer (or take photos). I set up a little online art gallery on our family website. I was just thinking about doing a little purge this weekend when the boys aren't looking....
