Just Wonderful!!!! = (

DH went outside this afternoon and was strapping Joey into his car seat as we were FINALLY heading out to the party we had to go to (we were already running late).

So I follow after them with the bags and I go to open the passenger side door to get in the car and holy sh*t if the whole side of my car (passenger door and front corner panel) isn't freakin' smashed up!!!! I almost friggen died! The car is drivable but the door does not open all of the way. I am talking thousands in damage here!!!

We thought there was no chance of figuring out who did this but it turns out just by dumb luck a neighbor of ours across the street came out and told us that they SAW IT HAPPEN! Last night around midnight another neighbor about 2 doors down from us came home, apparently bombed off his a$$ and tried to pull in front of my car to park and slammed into it instead! Then he parked, got out of his truck and went inside and sent his friggen kids outside to clean up the mess he made when he hit me because he busted a headlight or whatever!!! Never left a note, NOTHING! The truck he was driving has not been on the street all day long and I'm sure will not be reappearing in OUR lifetime! He obviously had no intention of letting us know what happened!!!

We called the cops and hopefully the cop can get the guy to admit it so that we can get the car fixed through his insurance instead of having to go through ours. If he doesn't fess up and his vehicle never surfaces then we'll have to hire a lawyer and sue him if we want to try to collect anything from him!!!

FREAKIN' LOVELY!!! x( x( x(

The only positive point is that the neighbor who saw it happen said they'd be willing to testify or talk to the cops or whoever if it gets to that point. That would help us immensely if it came down to suing him.

oh girl! that sucks! i am so sorry. i know you didn't need that stress right now(as if it's ever a good time to have your car smashed;-) )i hope your neighbor admits his fault and you get your car fixed soon. what an ass!! good luck:)

Holy cow! That is unbelievable! Well good thing your neighbor can be a witness. Some people have no conscience! :)

Oh Wendy, thats horrible!!! I can only imagine how you must feel.I get pissed enough when I get a door ding in the mall parking lot.And it really irritates DH b/c he sees it happen so much.People that are overweight and are having trouble getting out...they just kick their door open and the door hits whatever was in the way!
Hopefully you will get it all straigthened out.If he was smart he would have let you know when he sobbered up b/c who knows....he may get charged with drinking and drving. And he deserves it!
Good Luck,
Lori:)

Oh Wendy I'm so sorry!! What a jerk. I hope your neighbor who is testifying will be enough to make this guy pay up. Someone hit DD's car in the parking lot of her apartment complex at college. We had to fix it because we could never find out who did it. It is just so unfair!;(

There should be damage on his car as well. I wouldn't wait for him to fess up. Hopefully the police will get there soon and check him and his car out before he sends his car to the shop to get fixed. Keep us posted.

I just thank God that no one was IN the car or standing on that side of the car! That's the side that Joey's car seat is on! Granted, he is in the back, but still! If nothing else, DH or I could have been standing there getting him in or out of the car when this guy came tooling down the road!!! The thought makes me sick! ;(

Ofcourse, still no sign of the guilty vehicle...no surprise though.

Thanks for the support. :) I'll keep ya posted if/when anything happens....

Your neighbor should have gotten you out of bed when it happened. You don't watch something like that & just go to bed. Sheesh!

The cops should be talking to your neighbor that said he saw it. They cant do a legal report against the drunk guy without a statement from someone that saw it happen.

Good luck

The cop told my husband the neighbor wouldn't need to come forward unless it goes to court...right now he is just going to trying to get the guy to admit hitting the car (by TELLING him we know who did it because we have a witness) so that we can get his insurance info to get the damage paid for. If he refuses to admit it and we sue him, that's when the witness gets involved. This is what the cop said...???

The witness apologized for not calling the cops right away or alerting us...The person didn't want to be involved and have the guy know who ratted him out just incase he wanted to start trouble...never came to mind the he/she could have called the cops anomymously to report the accident when it happened and then WE wouldn't even know who saw it.

Oh and the cop said the guy will not be charged with DUI. He can't be now...a cop was not there to test him and ofcourse it's too late now...I figured that myself anyway.

so sorry this happened. ppl are just such a$$ holes. hopefully with your eye witness and a little forensic paint test there will be hard evidence to charged him and make him pay up. i hope they can prove he was drunk too that way he looses his license. ppl who drink and drive should not be on the road period.

Whoa, that is terrible but you are lucky too because you can get it fixed by the person responsible and that's a lucky break for your insurance premiums. And Wendy, I just decided I'm joining MADD. My daughter was out late last night at a concert. She recently told me that after 11:00 PM, 1 out of 9 or 11, I can't remember which, drivers is drunk and that's plain horrifying. He could have driven into your house with your precious baby sleeping there since he wasa obviously drunk as a skunk. That is so infuriating. I hope this works out for you and it will, since you have an eye witness who's willing to testify. I hope it won't come to that but go get 'em, Mom!

OMG Wendy that is horrible!
So sorry that happened to you.
I'm very glad that someone saw it happen, and is willing to step up and say so, although I agree with a previous post that it seems they would have woken you up to tell you something so serious!!!!!!! That's wierd to see something like that and go on to bed without thinking they should let you know!!!!!!

Anyway, I hope it gets cleared up for you FAST! There is NO WAY you should be responsible, insurance or not, to get that fixed!!!!!!

That is terrible Wendy! I hope the guy will fess up so you and your family will not have to go through the ordeal of going to court. I hope everything works out. Keep us posted!

That sucks, Wendy. I was hoping that you said you opened the door and found your missing locket!

You were very fortunate in that there was a reliable witness and that no one was in the car and no one got hurt.

What an ass to be driving drunk and then to get his kids involved.

This happened to me at work last year. My van was smashed in the PARKING LOT - no note. I called the cops and did my own investigation and found the car in the lot that had damage that matched mine. The cop called the guy down, he confessed and I was reimbursed for the damage through his insurance. But I still see this guy at work. I give him the evil eye.

Wendy--I'm angry for you just reading this. What a jerk of a neighbor. I hope that you can get this resolved with the guy's insurance company so that you don't have to take it to court.

I hope he gets caught driving drunk before he hurts someone. Some dear friends of mine were killed a few years ago by a drunk driver. Unfortunately, the law (at least here in Oregon) is pretty soft on drunk drivers and the guy got off with no jail time. 2 people dead and no consequences.

Sorry for the rant, I just really have a thing about drunk drivers.

Keep us posted
Maggie

Thanks Ladies.

I guess I gotta call my insurance company today and give them the heads up atleast that this happened. Don't know yet whose insurance we will go through but I certainly don't want to lose the chance to use ours if we have to by not letting them know.....

The cop that came to our house does not go back on duty until Wednesday. At that point he will start trying to get catch the guy at home to talk to him....keep your fingers crossed for us!

I'll keep you all posted.

ETA: DH took a ride with Joey yesterday while I was working...he went looking for a white p/u truck parked in a local body shop! He thought he might get lucky and find it smashed up and waiting to be fixed but no such luck.x(

BTW-Maggie, please do not apologize for the above rant! I agree 100%!!!!
