I never apologize for liking music found horrible by others since I am subjected to that which I consider the most dreadful stuff and yet, there are some they play that I like too. Overwhelmingly, I don't like most of the alternative rock both my teenagers favor, but a few, are great. I confess I once loved You Light Up My Life and do you remember the horrible movie by the same name? When I hear it now, I am astounded but I used to sing it. With feeling! Probably for Bill. Makes me think youth is wasted on the young. That made me mad a few decades ago.
There are many ballads I loved, still love and MAY still love if I but heard them. I love music in a minor key and songs that make you sad when that's the right way to go and songs that make you dance badly. Crocodile Rock, for instance. Five or so of my sisters and I recorded tht together at an amusement park and we sounded terrible but we had such fun, if it comes on I am there in an instant. Even though I think Paul Simon is an ass, Simon and Garfunkle still warm the cockles of my heart. Some of the old stuff is the soundtrack I'd put to my life. And although I am no fan of country music, George Jones and some of the others have the same effect because they recall my dad and some fun, warm, loving memories. He Stopped Loving Her Today, which is about as dorky as they get, gets listened to, sometimes through smiles and tears or smiles or tears because it evokes childhood in a heartbeat and in a good way. I really love music, don't claim to be an expert on any kind and really do think it all has value, even the most awful stuff, if it gives one person pleasure. Music is one of the most wonderful things on earth! One man's favorite song is anther's worst song ever but even bad songs can be so bad they may not be good but they get your attention. David Soul's song and what aboaut Patrick's Swayke's She's Like the Wind? I saw Wedding Crashers a few weeks ago and the Shout sequences killed me. It's one I love as hackneyed as it could be and as hatable too! I think the ones you know stink up the joint are the best because you love them in spite of that.
