Jogglers December 2013

I had hoped that this year would have been better, but the good news is that I have only put on 30 lbs with the antibiotics. It could have been worse. I am struggling with the eczema but it seems to be getting better with the steroid cream from the dr. I am so tired. I am not allowed to exercise yet because sweat makes the rash bad. But, I am allowed to do yoga. I am also working on an elimination diet right now. I have started by eliminating dairy because a lot of people have said that was the culprit for them. I am coping by lathering up with cetaphil, taking cool showers, and eating home cooked food.

Welcome to December!!!

Alisha

Alisha - Lousy way to start the month, but, hopefully, you'll figure it out! I'd try gluten next if you already aren't gluten-free.

I started my month out with a core and stretch workout. I'm doing Cathe's December 2011 rotation starting tomorrow. I did pretty well with the XTrain strength rotation last month. Not perfect, but much better than I had been doing! Improvement is good!

Go back to work tomorrow for 2 weeks and 4 days, then I'm on vacation again for Christmas. We bottled wine today. In 3 months we'll have 30 bottles of Coastal White ready for drinking. Going to start another batch of Viognier this week.

That's about it today! This vacation went by way too fast!

Hi Jane! Hope you had a nice weekend!

Excellent advice, I will take it. I may try going GF just in case and wait and see if I don't feel better.

I have noticed just how many Cathe workouts you are doing on the FB, well done!!!!

Happy December!

Sorry about missing the last couple of days in November. This weekend was crazy busy. Spent most of it with mom but managed to get some shopping in.

Mom finally called the doctor about her legs and is getting pain meds for it. It will be interesting to see if it helps. I wonder if she has some nerve damage or the pain is from the nerves coming back.

I was bad last week and only worked out on Thursday morning, Saturday (which was a 4 hour yard workout) and a 9 mile run yesterday morning. Today is legs. It's beautiful outside today, sunny and in the 70's.

Alisha ~ Welcome to December is right. Hope you feel better soon. It sounds like you are on the right track though. Is your project done?

Tricia ~ I think the only 5-day workout week I have this month is the week of the 16th. I'm taking off December 5, 6 and 9 and from December 25-January 1. Can't wait!

Alisha - Thanks! Took tonight off. I did 4 days in a row, so I don't feel bad about it. Hope the dairy and gluten-free things work for you!

I want to ask you if you think you'd be interested in a lifetime yoga practice? I have a link. Linda Ranger in our FB Strong & Lean group is getting a group together for $30 each. Check out this link and let me know if you want in!

Jane - Hope the meds help your moms leg pain! You workout so hard and so much, a break this month is awesome!

Hi Ladies,

I took yesterday as a rest day. Tonight will be a 3 mile run and then it's off to Memphis and the 1/2 Marathon. I'm very excited. I hope the weather doesn't dampen the mood too much. I'm not looking forward to the cold but what can you do?

Alisha ~ I hope you're doing well.

Tricia ~ Good job on your workouts. My mom is doing a bit better. They prescribed Vicodin which I'm not really happy about. Mom takes 1/2 a pill and it seems to help with the pain so that she can be mobile. I think she is trying to make an appointment with the doctor to see if he will write a script for physical therapy. Mom's message therapist recommended someone that works with the older folks. I really think it will help her, if not getting rid of the pain, at least helping her to be more flexible and mobile regardless. They take insurance so hopefully the doctor will be open to it.

Hi Jane!

I can't imagine the doc not being agreeable to PT if it could help your mom! Sending lots of positive vibes! I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the race goes forward on Saturday and the weather isn't too bad! You and Nan are both driving down, right? Just be safe! I'll be sending you guys protection and light for a safe trip!

I will do at least a one mile walk with Leslie Sansone today. I'm easing into things because I don't want to make my rash flare up. I have a follow up appointment with the dr. tomorrow. The skin around my eyes has started to flake but it doesn't hurt and I have put vit. e on it to help the skin heal.

I will go back to work tomorrow. I did paper work yesterday. I also went to the grocery store to pick up a reduced price turkey. We didn't have T-day here last week and it was a Foster Farms bird for only 99 c/pound. Yippee! I know thats hilarious considering how much I'm leaning towards vegetarian options these days because of my skin. But, really its about clean options and figuring out what triggers it. I'm still dairy free, which isn't the easiest thing because its in most bread. I'm wondering if it is actually oxalates because I was having juices all summer that are full of oxalates (kale, beets, spinach) and I had started having hot chocolate in the fall. Both of those raise oxalate levels in your blood and I have a history of kidney issues and my Dad has had lots of kidney stones. This kind of sensitivity is genetic. But, then the question is: what to eat:rolleyes:

Jane- Have a wonderful time at your race. I will be sure to blow all our hot air your way. It must be working because it i 49 deg. today.

Tricia-Is that yoga thing still available? How do I pay? I am interested.

Alisha

Hi Alisha!

Turkey shouldn't be bad. That's a great price, too! Most bread recipes I use only have water and no milk. Maybe you need a bread machine? It sounds like your skin is starting to clear up. I sure hope so!

I sent you a FB message regarding the yoga. It is still available. Just give me a final go ahead and I'll tell Linda to order for 5 memberships! We'll all pay Linda directly for our share. I'll forward you details once she finalizes everything.

I did my workout tonight. IMAX2 and Total Body Stretching #1. I'm 2 days behind on my schedule, but it's okay. Milo got sick Monday night. I think it was the little piece of turkey skin I gave him. I have one to Peanut, too, but it didn't bother her. He finally ate some rice tonight and had a treat at lunch. He slept through the night last night, but the night before, we were up every hour or so going out. He was puky. Still keeping an eye on him to make sure he's okay and I don't need to take him to the vet.

Sending lots of positive vibes to you, Jane, and your sister for a great race weekend!

Good morning!

Did Slide & Glide last night. Almost talked myself out of working out, but stuck to it!

Alisha - How'd your doc appointment go? Hope you're seeing some improvement! Forwarded your email to Linda Ranger who is setting up the yoga plan. We should get our instructions for starting our accounts around Dec. 18th. Very excited! Hoping to finally be able to like yoga with this program! Sounds perfect for learning and slowly easing into it. I really need to improve my flexibility!

Got word that the St. Jude marathon was canceled for today. Jane and her sister, Nan and Connie won't be running today. Kind of stinks because they travelled so far, but at least they got to meet each other and have some fun this weekend! I hope the weather is good for them to get out today!

Have a great Saturday!

We're taking Milo to the vet. I thought he was getting over the puky thing, but he still seems really lethargic and shaky and he tried to puke this morning outside. I hope it's nothing.

Its snowing!!!

We don't normally get snow, but its snowing now. I don't think I should drive, I have a Honda Fit which isn't really snow worthy.

Dr. Appt: My legs are much better. The itchy spots have just about disappeared. I asked my dr. if I could get a allergy test but she says that I have sensitivities rather than classic allergies (which would show up in a test). She gave me two more tubes of the steroid cream. She did say that this kind of condition does come back. She will be testing my kidneys and thyroid on Monday. I have to remember not to eat breakfast. She also said I was allowed to exercise so long as I shower and moisturize afterwards. yippee!! I'm still eating dairy free. I got some coconut milk yesterday and I'm reading labels. I also got myself a treat: coconut milk frozen chocolate ice cream - its dairy free :)

I am using Alaffia shea butter soap/shampoo. I am also taking probiotics. So far, so good. I'm a little scared that this thing will come back, but my Mom tells me not to 'borrow trouble' too much. I have a tendency to do that

Tricia- I'm so sorry that your pup is not feeling well. I hope he feels better soon.

Jane- I'm so sorry that your race has been cancelled.

Alisha - Yay! So glad you're doing better and you have the ok to workout again! I would just not veer from the dairy-free at all and keep dong what you're doing. Hopefully, that will fend off these breakouts.

I can't believe you are getting snow! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't get too much this year. That blizzard last year was more than enough for me for many years to come!

Milo has pancreatitis. Apparently, giving him turkey skin, even a little piece was bad. I had no idea. Peanut didn't have any trouble with it. He had a rough night last night. Shaking all night. He's been wrapped in a blanket on the couch all day and I have fed him rice a couple of times already. We're supposed to give him that and boiled chicken (have to get some today) 4-5 times a day in small amounts. His appetite is good. He just doesn't want to move much. I'll probably stay home with him tomorrow if he still isn't much for moving around. I'm hoping he starts to improve soon. I can't stay home with him all week and Stephen has to give his finals this week. Please, please send prayers and healing vibes! I'm so worried about him! He can't have ANY table food any more and we will need to feed him multiple small meals every day from now on to keep his pancreas from getting over-stimulated with infrequent feedings. I feel like such a terrible puppy mommy!

I did PUB today and TBS #2 with the stability ball. That is one great stretch! Going to hit the shower and run to the store soon.

Hi Jane! Hope you are having a nice day today!

not a workout just yet

I had a good day. We went to work and got a ton of inspections done. Then we went to see a friend (friend of my Mom's). She was not feeling well and the doctors thought she had a heart attack but then she got better and there was no evidence of a heart attack. I believe in miracles!! Anywhoo, we stopped at Asian Bistro on the way home and I was good I had steamed rice with stir fry veggies/beef. I skipped the ice cream that came with the dinner and I drank hot tea.

I have to go for blood work tomorrow morning to see if I have kidney trouble.

Tricia- I am sending healing vibes for poor Milo. I am so sorry to hear about his pancreatitis. That sounds awful. :( I'm just surprised that a turkey skin would hurt him :( Well done on your workouts.

I am staying dairy free.

Hi Ladies,

Sorry it's been so long. I've been busy. As you know the St Jude Marathon/Half Marathon was cancelled due to weather. The roads were fine but the sidewalks were icy and 30% of volunteers cancelled. Also, the finish line was a skating rink. They did the right thing. It was so cold...I was worried about running in the cold temperatures. I'm not used to and it would have been very uncomfortable. Felt so sorry for my friend Connie as she trained really hard for this half. My sister and I will be going back next year.

We got back late afternoon on Saturday. We left Memphis when it was 21 degrees and arrived home to temperatures in the 70's. It felt great. We visited mom and then went grocery shopping.

Sunday I ran 9.25 miles and spent the rest of the day at mom's. Today was a leg workout and went to the doctor with mom and also took her to work and picked her back up and took her home. Tomorrow it's back to work for me.

Alisha ~ I hope your fine and your blood work comes back normal. I believe in miracles too! Did you play in the snow?

Tricia ~ So sorry to hear about Milo. I'm sending him lots of healing prayers and vibes. I know nothing about dogs and probably would have done the same thing. I don't think you are a bad puppy mommy.

Blood work came back normal!!! Yippee! I'm feeling good about that. It means I can pretty much eat with abandon (in proportion and healthy carbs of course.) I'm still dairy free. I thought I would make myself some coconut milk pancakes for breakfast. I have put away Mt. Saint Laundry, my word that was a big moutnain:eek: I plan to spend the day working on the computer.

I'm ready to start exercising again. My rash is gone. I've been doing a shot of 1 tbsp. organic extra virgin olive oil with some lemon juice every morning with a little bit of water stirred in, and I know it sounds weird, but it goes down easy. I heard that it would help with hydrating my skin, which is critical for preventing eczema flare ups.

Jane- I'm sorry that your race was cancelled, but I am so grateful that you are safe. I'm sorry that your friend missed that opportunity for a 1/2 marathon, but this just means that she will be really ready for which ever race she can get into. Its probably best not to run in those extremely cold temperatures for a new runner anyway (or anyone really). I have hurt myself in the past running in very cold weather and I didn't even know it because it was so cold, I just kept going, I couldn't feel it.

Tricia- How is Milo holding up? Is he keeping solid food down?

Alisha

Happy Wednesday!

Tonight was a 3.3 mile run. We ran really good tonight and the weather was very pleasant but I wish it wasn't so dark. Oh well..in another 10 days the days start getting longer again.

Alisha ~ YIPPEE...glad your blood work was normal. I'm happy you conquered Mt. Saint Laundry. I'm glad you can start working out again. What is your first workout going to be.

Tricia ~ I hope Milo is ok? Sending lots of healing vibes your way.

Sorry about being MIA!

Alisha - Great news on your blood work and that your rash is gone! Yippee for working out again! I hope you continue to do well! Maybe it was the dairy! Glad your mom's friend is okay!

Jane - I know it was disappointing that the race didn't go especially after traveling so far, but I agree that it was the wisest choice. Excited that you're going to go next year! Maybe we'll be in a better position by then and I can make it.

Milo keeps having a good day, then a bad day. He'll eat one day, then not be hungry the next. Sigh. I'm still hoping he starts improving soon. At least when I palpate his belly, he doesn't whimper. He goes back to have his ear checked next weekend. I need my baby back to his normal pain in the butt self!

I haven't been able to work out this week between errands on Monday, our office party last night and a couple of sleepless nights. I'm hoping to get back to it tomorrow night. Pray that everyone sleeps well! It's the start of Stephen's 3 nights taking care of the pups, but they still wake me up when they get up.

On a positive note, even though the scale isn't moving much, I was able to zip my blue skirt up all the way today. Didn't do the hook, but that's still progress!

TGIF!!

Here is last night's workout:

Four rounds of 10 reps of the following using a barbell
Back Row
Bicep Curl
Military Press
Back Squat
Military Press
Upright Row
BOSU Jumps
Chest Press
Weighted Situp
Push ups

Today will be a running working. I haven't figured it all out yet. I'm starving. I was up after the night because I was hungry but I didn't really have anything to eat that would put a dent in my hunger.

Tricia ~ I'm sorry about Milo and sleepless nights. I hope last night was better. I hope Milo gets better soon. At least he is feeling a bit better. I hope you get some workouts in this week. It's hard to workout in the dark. I hate it. At least the days will be getting longer after the 21st. I wish it was summer already.

I am excited about St. Jude next year. I'm doing a half in March in Albany. I wanted to travel but couldn't do it financially so I had to settle for a local race. I traveled too much the last couple of months and I'm slated to do a 15K in Pensacola in February which will be another overnight stay.

Hi Alisha!

Jane - Great workout last night! Milo is up and down. What I'm most worried about is his weight loss. I need him to get his appetite back consistently. Got a decent night's sleep last night, but mostly because it was Stephen's turn with the pups. One more night and I should feel better. Didn't help that I had to get up and go to work today. I'll pick up the workouts tomorrow. I'm still pretty tired.

I love that you keep track of when it starts getting lighter again! I never think about that, but it does make me feel better knowing it'll start soon!

Going to relax with the pups. Stephen is at Bryant for a finance meeting at the school tonight. Why they are doing it on a Friday night is beyond me, but whatever. I'll be home alone with the pups until about 9:30 or 10. He was at Yale on Tuesday night for an R meeting there. Sheesh!

Hi Alisha! Hope you've had a good day!
