Jewelry question: is this true?

I cannot wear sterling silver earrings or any gold earrings that have nickel. I heard that if I use clear nail polish in the areas that touch my ear (post, back of the earrings, etc.) I can wear them without problems and I won't get skin reactions. Anyone does this? Is this true?

I'm not sure if that's true. I wonder if the clear nail polish would eventually chip off, though. I know they make nickel free jewelry now- that might be something to look into.

I can not account for wether it works, but I do believe I have heard that somewhere before....what's the harm in trying it?

Yes, it is true. I have nickel allergies and this is a trick I use. However, you have to frequently touch the posts up as the polish wears and chips off.

Yes, it is true. I sell Premier Designs High Fashion Jewelry, and we have been trained in that. Another tip: Buy some Neosporin, and only use it for your earrings. Every time you want to wear them, dip the post in the tube. That should also help.

I'm another with the same problem. I haven't been able to wear earrings for two days now. I gob Neosporin on my earlobes and that clears it up. I also stay away from costume jewelry.

And here I thought I had personally invented the Neosporin trick all on my own! I have worn earrings my whole life and for some reason stopped a couple of years ago. Now when I try to dress up and actually wear them, I can barely get them in and my ears get irritated. I started using the Neosporin to solve both problems, lubricating the earring and fend off any irritation. It works!

Thank you everybody for all the tips. It's so frustrating that I see a lot of affordable and cute earrings (gemstone, diamonds, pearls, designer, etc) and then they're done either in sterling silver or non-nickel free gold and I can't get them. I'll have to try your suggestions to see if my ears don't turn green or fushia pinkx( . If it works I'll let you all know. Now I have to get some cute new earrings.
