It's official I have plantar facisitis(sp?)

Calico

Cathlete
I just came from the foot doctor and he put me on a different anti-inflammatory and wants me to wear heel risers in my shoe. I have to go out and buy them. He says it is a classic case but hopes to avoid an injection. I am also to do calf stretches.

I can continue my normal activities as long as I am not in alot of pain.

:) :D :7

Anyway just thought I would give you special people an update.:D

The pain originates where the arch meets the heel (on the inside of my foot) or at the point of origin of the tendon. The outside of my heel also hurts. I also have some turning of the foot when I walk so the mechanics of my foot is off some too. I got the new anti-inflammatory filled and will start it tomorrow and tomorrow I will go and try to find the type of insert he wants me to try. It can be a dull ache to a stabbing pain that makes my whole foot jerk. Some days it is soo bad that I have to walk on my tippy toes if I haven't taken anything for it.

Thanks for asking!:D

Annette~I hope that the new meds and the heel cups work for you! GREAT you can continue to do some activities. Take it easy! You're pretty SPECIAL too!

Ouch! I had a mild case earlier this year, and drugstore heel inserts plus a mild antiinflammatory helped. My pain wasn't as bad as yours though.

Best of luck - heal soon!

I had it to. I was in sooooooooooooooo much pain. I had injections, took anti-inflammatories (sp), went to physical therapy, AND tried orthotics nothing touched it!! I was so mad.
I finally was able to fix it on my own, I purchased the clogs by Dansko and wore them all the time. Here is the link: http://www.dansko.com/wclosedbacks.htm
What ever it is in the way that they are made they make your feet be properly supported. It worked. (I don't work for the company it worked for me.) I also realized that I needed to give up flat unsupportative shoes. I can wear them again now, but I am careful to not wear them all the time. The shoes are also great if you ever throw out your back again they put you in proper alignment. I bought them for my husband and he fought me at first but they did help him a lot. Best wishes...

Another plug for the Dansko clogs. They feel better on my feet than my crosstrainers with the custom made orthodics! They really support your arches and for me, that has been key in my recovery.

I am still battling plantar facciitis (since May of this year). I was in physical therapy for 3 months, twice a week. That definately helped (learned how to stretch out my feet and more importantly for me, I learned how to really stretch my calves) . Also twice a week during these sessions, the therapist applied cortisone to my feet using an ultra sound machine. This all helped a lot, but the healing takes a long time (and I'm not the most patient person!!). I never had the injection, but I have a friend who did and it helped her (she did say it hurt, though).

Good luck and I hope you heal quickly. Just take it east and listen to your body.

Becky

PS Do you like yoga? I found that this kind of workout helped, especially when I was told to stop all cardio except for the bike and all lower body weight training for 6 to 8 weeks!!! to aid in the healing of my feet.

So, if it is sore on the arch on the inside of your foot it's not PF?

I thought I was one of the few who wore shoes all the time. Not specifically for PF, but just cause my feet hurt if I don't!

Andrea

No It is PF, that is exactly where mine started to hurt, was on the inside of the foot where the arch meets the heel.

Clear as mud? Hope not!

Andrea,

From what I understand ,plantar fasciitis is when the tissues and muscles connecting your arch and your heel are overly stressed and eventually tear . Or these tissues tear and then form scar tissue that impedes the flexability of the foot, which of course makes everything even worse. This scar tissue can eventually cause heel spurs, I believe. The pain seems to originate on the inside part of your heel and radiates up your arch. For me,if I'm walking barefoot, it seems like I have a painful little pea on the bottom of my heel that digs in further every time I put weight on my heel. It is very painful to walk barefoot ( and as my podiatrist said to me, "people shouldn't walk barefoot... they need good arch support always!"). I now have learned my lesson and always wear shoes with good arch support even in the shower!(those tiles kill my feet). I'm just sorry I didn't take better care of my feet before. Hopefully, everyone's feet will be feelling better soon!

Becky
