Even my kids' school, which is pretty Republican, is full of the history and awe of how far we've come as a country - Obama's very fiscally conservative and pragmatic advisors (such as Reagan's Paul Volcker) have softened the old guard Red folks...

I kept the kids home....and having some pals over to watch it over chicken salad, apple pie and fancy coffee!

Man, I loved President Obama's speech: It covered ALL the bases, was brief, pointed, beautifully written and delivered... God, it's great to be proud to be an American again. I pray the haters, the sicko's, (and the Nancy Pelosi's!) stay out of his way and let him get down to uniting our people and fixing this God-awful mess with which he's been left. The painful tests will begin soon, yet I feel such hope. I just want the hope to last.

I just saw a picture of the 1 million plus people that were there. What an awesome sight that is. It gives me chills just looking at it.

What a great day for our country. I am so proud to be a witness to this remarkable time in American history. I'm so emotional, I've been prone to sudden weepiness all day long. BooHoo and WooHooo!

What an amazing country we have. There really is no other country in the world that matches this very special democracy that we are privileged to live in and be a part of.

I hope he keeps our country safe for another 4 years, we haven't had a terrorist attack for the past 7, so I pray this continues.

No matter what your political affiliation, inauguration day is always something to be proud of. The peaceful transfer of power is something other countries can only dream about.

Having said that, there seems to be so much more joy and pride surrounding this inauguration than any I've experienced in my 40 years. For the first time, I have a president that I can actually support whole-heartedly, rather than just tolerate (or outright despise). I can hardly get my mind around this moment. I have never been more proud to be an American.

obama

While I am happy our country elected it's first African-American President, I am not happy it was a democrat. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. He has a tough road ahead of him and it's not going to be easy. I hate to say it.....but I fear we will have another terror attack if he's not tough. You gotta give Bush credit for keeping us safe, no matter how much you hate the guy.

The terrorists would've attacked under Clinton or Bush, they planned the attack for almost 7 years!!! Another one could be being hatched easily to come under Obama or the next president - these people are very smart, very patient, and they are not cowards (deranged, delusional, and evil to the max though!)....

Bush was no Republican - he was fiscally bizarre - he didn't "tax and spend" as Democrats are long accused, he taxed and Charged it!!!And he is no mental giant, I accuse the Congress of both parties of being weak and ineffective and spineless.

What I do like is that Obama has some old conservatives working with him, no "yes"men sycophants, he is inviting debate and hooting down the partisan politics of both parties to force national debate.

God be with him....

What a great day yesterday was. I think everyone appreciated the historical factor of the day, but it just meant SO much more being an Obama supporter. I love the fact that whether you agree with his politics or not, no one can dispute his call to bring the nation together and to roll up our sleeves and do our part to put our country back together. I loved his speech and loved seeing him and Michelle together. They seem so real and so grounded. I like the peaceful feeling I get just watching him interact with others and deliver speeches. I believe our nation needs a strong, yet peaceful leader. There's been too much division, in-fighting and spreading of hatred for so long. In his speech Obama even reiterated that ours is a country of all faiths and that the government would respect all faiths and governments as long as they were peaceful. The days of judging others because of their beliefs and customs hopefully have begun to come to an end. I'm praying that this leader will bring diplomacy back to the White House and restore the world's faith in us. I'm confident he can do it --- with everyone's good wishes and help. It's a new day!!!

Well, the terrorist attack happened under a Republican's watch...Obama has an excellent cabinet and advisors. He has surrounded himself with experts and has the support of the best military minds around. I'm less worried about it than I was with Bush in power.

What I really loved about the inauguration ceremony was the quartet with Itzhak Perlman, Yo-yo Ma...and those other two I've never heard of. I saw an interview with Yo-yo Ma a few weeks ago and was struck by his amazing personality. Soft spoken and cheerful, with a huge heart and unbelievable talent. I was watching yesterday and immediately noticed how much he loves what he does. The joy on his face when he plays. Then my BF came over after work and I made him watch the ceremony. He's a youngun, so knows very little about classical music or the artists, but he commented on the same thing. The big smile and enthusiasm of the guy. It was wonderful to watch. The piano player...well, I think maybe her bench was cold. She didn't look too cheerful.
