Is this happening to anyone else?

Hope this ins't TMI, but within the last few months, my monthly gift from mother nature(gift?) is VERY heavy the first two days where I can't do any type of exercise w/out fearing embarassment.(not even taking a walk) I feel like I'm attached to my bathroom. And of course it came right in the middle of STS mesocyle 1 week 3 UGH!!!!!!!!!! last month came over the weekend, no problem there. Sorry if it's TMI, but I just needed to vent. Thanks. Kay

Kay, I'm the same way. I joke that I hemorrhage the first 2 days of my cycle. Thank goodness for OB ultras!! They have saved me from embarassment.

Try talking 600mg of ibuprofen each day for the three days before your period. My GYN told me to do this and it has been unbelievable how much lighter my periods are.

I found as I started my 40s that the flow got MUCH worse. So bad I couldn't be away from a bathroom for more than 15-20 min sometimes. I'd be tired from not sleeping because of the hormones for about a week before only to have to get up all night long for the next 5 days. My gyn said I had a L-O-N-G way to go before meno and recomended I have an endometrial ablation (Novasure). I took a year before I finally decided to do it at age 42 and I'm soooooooo happy I did, I have my life back! It's the best decision I ever made. It looks like you are 47, so maybe you can hang in there!

Gettingfitmom - I could have wrote that post myself. I don't know how old you are but in the last couple of years (I am 46) this is my normal cycle now with the first 2 days then it lightens tremendously.

I have never been one of have heavy periods or a bunch of PMS. Now I have this crazy 2 day thing and the PMS mixed in with peri-menopause -
well, let's just say the few days before my family takes to hiding.

As far as the Ibuprofen - that really upsets my stomach so I don't think I can try that. But if you don't have a sensitive stomach - I would definitely give that a try!

Hi,

I'm late 40's and exactly the opposite. Mine are light or almost non-existent. I guess I shouldn't complain:) Most people I know that are my age are exactly the opposite.

Lisa, what exactly is an endometrial ablation? Thanks,Kay

Debbie, yes! after the first two days, definitly lighter. I tend to get night sweats during my period too...I have heard of the ibuprofen thing, but my period is always off by a few days each month. My family hides too, even the dogs:)

Kay, an endometrial ablation is where they basically destroy your endometrium lining. So you don't do this if you ever want to get pregnant again. There are various ways to do this, I went with the novasure procedure (www.novasure.com) . They insert a mesh thingy that they expand inside you to cover the inside of your uterus and then they deliver an electric zap that basically burns off your lining (yes, you are put under for this procedure). You then have very light to no periods after that, it depends on where the mesh wasn't able to make contact to burn off the lining. I went from a whole box of super plus each month to only 1 regular tampon (not box) a month.

Thanks, I go to my gyno at the end of the month. I do have a few cysts in and on the lining of my uterus, have been keeping an eye on them thru vaginal ultrasound...could be the culprit, guess I'll find out. I'll ask if the endometrial ablation is an option for me, thanks again, Kay

OH, can I join the "here's another reason the 40's suck" committee?!:p

My periods have worsened as well. They are not as long, but much more intense the first two days. I have my "lets see if we can go through a box of 20 tampons" day the first day - it sucks! I feel like I'm in high school again always wondering and checking if I have blood on my pants - ack!

I've also heard of the ibuprofen trick, but haven't tried it yet. I think I might try that next time. I also have heard several positive stories regarding the ablation, too.

Heidi
p.s. I truly am enjoying my 40's otherwise, though..didn't want to sound like a total pessimist:eek:

I had a MEA done last year, but they also found a cyst and fibroids. MEA might be the way to go. Also check iron levels. I tend to eat more spinach, collards, steak, and take supplements.

Luckily, as I started noticeable symptoms of perimenopause, I didn't get heavier periods, but they came closer together (like every 14-18 days for a while).

After that, they got more into the 'irregular periods" I had imagined they would be : farther apart, sometimes skipping 2-3 months at a time (once 4), and sometimes not much more than spotting.

Lucky you, wanna trade? :) At 47 I'm hoping this won't last too long. My mother was early 50's when she stopped getting her periods,I tend to take after her...yeah:(
