Is it really worth it?

I just bought some low sodium soups yesterday because every now and then you want some comfort food. But guess what? It tastes like nothing. So was it worth having less sodium and no taste which has left me unsatisfied and on the prowl for more food or should I have the regular full sodium soup and feel satisfied? Some days I wonder...

Last winter I started making my own soups. It is really easy and delicious and the best part is you control what goes into it and you can spice it the way you like!!!

I guess it depends. What brand soup did you buy? If they put crap in it, crap with less salt will taste bad. The big companies have low salt versions but a lot of junk in them. I don't eat much salt so I actually prefer low salt but I only buy soups that have wholesome ingredients. I use sea salt when I do use salt - you don't need as much. That said, Whole Foods makes an amazing chicken noodle soup. It is salty. I don't eat it often, and when I do, I don't eat a big bowl, but it is sooo good. To balance things out, I drink a lot of water before or after the soup, or both :)

Yes - that is the best! There are some good recipes for vegetarian chili. Yum, yum, yum.

I also buy low sodium products - especially canned beans. If I feel the need to have that salty taste I use "No Salt" that way I get the taste w/o the added sodium.

Funny-I just had Progresso low sodium minestrone for lunch. It was ok-quick and easy. And I just got a coupon in the mail for Campbell's Select Harvest soups. It says they're made with no artificial flavors or msg and the sodium comes from natural sea salt. They use farm-grown vegetables-is there any other kind? They also boast 100 calories or less per serving. And the labels are even leaving a smaller carbon footprint-they're made of 75% recycled fiber and printed using soy ink!

I'll be giving them a try-if only to use the $1.00 off cupon on one can:) Hopefully they taste decent. I make homemade soup too, but sometimes it's just easier to pop open a can. We'll see.

I make soup and freeze it. Then I just nuke it in the container so I don't even need to get out the can opener! :)

You can buy salt-free or low salt foods like this, the add some Mrs. Dash (there are something like 5 versions, all salt free).

Speaking of low salt: several months ago, I picked up a small bag of reduced-salt Fritos, but since then, I haven't seen them again. They were actually really good (not tasteless, like some low-salt or salt-free processed foods).

Those darn Frito's are hard to find. You're right - they are very good. I have found them at Wal-Mart and maybe Target. Definitely Wal-Mart...

When did you find them?
I found them at Wal-Mart.
But I was wondering if they'd been discontinued for some reason, because I only saw them ONCE!
