Intense Yoga DVD's

I really need some help. I have been struggling with a couple sleep disorders and have found hot yoga classes to be the best thing for them. But, my gym only offers the classes 4x/wk. I need to what the most intense, "hot yoga class equivilent" dvd's there are out there, please.

I think it would be Tony Sanchez's Yoga Challenge. There is a I, II, and III. I know there is someone else who has one that is similar but his name escapes me. I think if you go to google or amazon and type in Bikram Yoga you will get some listings. I really like the Sanchez DVD tho I admit I don't do it as ofter as I used to.

ooh, good question. I hope that Vee sees this, she might have really good suggestions. I do Yoga Today on line with Sarah Kline, it streams onto your computer. But, I don't know that it would be equivalent to intense hot yoga.

I don't really know much about it, but Bob Harper just put out a new intense yoga workout.

Jimmy Barkan has The Barkan Method (http://www.barkanmethod.com/). I really like it...haven't used it in a while but have been thinking of adding it in regularly.

I have never taken a Bikram hot yoga class and you have such great advice already that I concur with.

Power yoga and hot yoga are both considered intense styles of yoga.

I hear Tony Sanchez yoga challenge (I have II and like it a lot and do it without heat) comes pretty close to Bikram's routine. Tony and Bikram both studied with the same guru Bishnu Ghosh and many claim the real mind behind Bikram's routine is Ghosh. Tony avoided a law suit by not doing the exact 26 pose sequence of Bikram, but he has not strayed much apparently.

Bikram yoga is different from Power yoga mainly because in the latter you flow from pose to pose. In the former you hold a pose and focus on letting your body go deeper into the pose and an alignment. Some power yoga DVDs offer a middle ground where you flow from pose to pose, but pause in some poses before flowing on. Baron Baptiste and Bryan Kest are examples of power yoga with holds.

So if you want intense and close to your hot yoga class, bring your own heat and try Tony. If you want intense and are up for variety, look for power yoga. Shiva Rea's Yoga Shakti is something I would add to the recommendations if you are interested in power yoga. Mark Blanchard is reputed to be very intense in the power category, but I have not tried his stuff.

Thanks for your confidence in my yoga suggestions! I think Adi Amar has some really intense sessions, but on yoga today the intensity varies from session to session for all three instructors. Sarah tends to be middle ground on building up a sweat. I still like her best.
