IMAX3

Hi,
I just tried IMAX3 for the first time last night. I have to say I got bit frustrated because I could not follow the routine very well. I'm sure I will get the hang of it eventually but I'm wondering if anyone can offer any tips? I've taken step classes in the past but it was a long time ago. The routine is very fast and having to move all around the step. It's hard to follow when I ended up having my back facing the TV. I was all over the place. :D

HI, did you try watching it a few times before trying it? I found that one to be easy to learn, I am having really really hard time with her new low impact, I find the steps very hard to follow

I watched the clip of Imax 3 2-3 times before I did the workout when I first purchased it years ago. I stuck to the step-only premix (without blasts) and was able to do it the first time through.

Give it time and take it one segment at a time. Some people need to rewind the workout, others can get by with watching it a few times. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Thanks! It makes sense to break down the rountine a bit to learn it. When I was struggling to follow the warm up I knew I was in trouble. :)

Hi JR,

I also found Imax3 to have tough step choreo. Don't get discouraged! You will get the hang of it. The step-only premix is great and you still get a pretty decent workout without the blasts. Step is one of those things that the more you do, the easier it becomes. Trust me, less than 1 year ago I "stepped" for the very first time and also became increasingly frustrated (especially when Cathe turned her back to me or went to the outside of the step). But I'm glad I never gave up. I love stepping :)

Good luck!

Hang in there JR. Like everyone said, it does get easier. Let me know when you finally get it down. Good Luck and keep smiling :)

Thanks Cathe! You're an inspiration.
I did the DVD again last night and this time I did it without the blasts. Still got more work to do obviously but not giving up. Even when I was struggling I felt like I was burning calories. I just kept moving. My heart rate was up and that made me happy!
Cathe, your DVDs are getting me out of a rut. I'm looking forward to getting in the best shape of my life!

These are all good suggestions. Definitely preview the program at least once. I'd tackle it when you are physically and mentally fresh, not after doing a tough workout (I'm like a lot of people who hate to lose a day of working out trying to learning a new program, but tackling it when you're fatigued makes it harder). I learned the step segments before the blasts for all three IMAX programs. The step-only premix in IMAX3 is perfect. The blasts have easy choreography but are physically demanding. You can wait to add them until after you master the step segments.

Be careful not to overthink the step segments. Just keep moving and sometimes things will suddenly "click" because Cathe choreographs in an intuitive manner (for example, when you're right leg is getting fatigued, she switches to the left). Her patterns just makes sense. As you say, just keep moving to keep your heart rate up and you will have accomplished a lot. In fact, if you're not doing exactly the same moves as Cathe is when you have your back to the screen, who cares as long as you do them in a balanced manner on the right and left sides and keep your heart rate up. Keep up the good work!

Thanks!
Now that you mentioned it, I do over-think the routine. After doing it over a few time, I'm sure it will come naturally. I did Lowmax last night and some of the moves from IMAX3 are in it. Lowmax breaks the routine down some so I can learn the step.
Right now I'm still clumsy on the step but I'm getting better at it. :)
I find myself stepping on it too hard; no swift movement.

The first 4 combo/blasts move a lot faster than the second half although the blasts get tougher. The workout does slow down a bit, IMO. The cueing is good so give yourself time like Cathe says. She doesn't play in this workout....
