Imax 3

I just got this one and watched it. I attempted the warm-up and combo 1 after my work out yesterday. I'm thinking it's going to take me a long time to get the hang of this one. It looks very intense. I think for Imax 2 it took me five tries to be able to master all the choreography. I still think that that one is a challenging work out, but at least I'm not stumbling over my step. For all you Imax lovers, how long did it take to get through Imax 3?

Thanks, Dallas

I think it took me 3 tries before I stopped getting frustrated w/the footwork. Personally I found the choreography to be more challenging than the other IMAXs, I find the intensity level somewhat lower.

Maximus ~ Really, the intesity is lower. Just watching it my HR was going up! LOL! I know this question has been asked before, but which of the Imaxes do you like the best? I don't have the original Imax yet. Maybe I'll get that next.

There was a recent poll comparing the intensity level of all the Imaxes, and Imax 3 came in 1st, followed by Imax 1. Personally I do find this one to be the most intense due to the short recovery periods. Cathe doesn't break down the step sections at all, so it is a workout that would take some time to "memorize", IMO.

It is a killer, that's for sure, and Cathe has provided good premixes that are good for those who desire more of a "learning curve".
Personally, I still modify a couple of sections because of joint stress, but I have found that if you can incorporate an Imax in once a week, you should build up enough endurance fairly quickly.

Go for it! You will feel fantastic when you get it down!:7

I don't think it's too hard to learn. I would watch it once to see what she does before attempting it, b/c she does move n' groove! I think the intensity is crazy high w/ her lack of recovery. Those who don't think so are my fitness idols! I'm still working on getting through with the same recovery periods Cathe takes. I don't have the original but I can say for sure it is harder than 2.

Thanks Debbie and Connie. I guess I'll take a few combo's at a time or check out the premixes. I was watching one combo or is it a blast where she jumps the whole length of the step, then turns and jumps again, and then if I remember correctly does a tuck jump! Whew!

It took my about 3 tries to get it right. One thing I did when I just needed a short easy cardio, was to do the step only premix, to practice the choreography, not having to deal with the blasts at all. This really helped me to memorize it.

Oh, and I think Imax 3 is the hardest, then Imax 1, then Imax 2.

I just started learning Imax3 last night. I did the step-only premix (and went through a couple combos more than once) just to learn the choreography. I'll do that again and then I think I'll be good to go.

After I did the step-only premix I did the first 3 blasts -- I had to do the first blast a few times to get it right, too.

I stopped after that. I was tired -- I had already done SH chest/back/abs before attempting to learn Imax3. I think Imax3 will be incredibly intense when I put it all together, but I'm hoping that learning it this way will help. :)

Can't comment on Imax 1 or 2 but wanted to chime in about Imax 3. I have no problem with the choreography, I think it took 2 or 3 tries. My problem are the blasts and short recovery (that is hardly a recovery). The plie jacks are murder for me. I have never felt a burn that badly in my quads, and I don't even do as many as she does. I must say Cathe is one bad lady!

It has taken me several tries just because it is such a hard workout cardio wise. The choreography is not bad but you get so tired by interval 7, your feet get mixed up.

I did this one today followed by Gym-Style Legs. I was one tired chick by the end of my workout today. ;-)

Whoa, after GS-Legs! Holy cow! I do that one all by itself. Maybe some abs, but a lot of stretching! Whew, you had to be "one tired chick".

Thanks everyone. Step only premix it's is. I'm going to add that on after my work out tomorrow. Just in case I get frustrated, at least I'll have my regular work out done.

I'm an instructor, so it didn't take long, I had to watch it a couple of times first, then I got it. If you've done her other step videos you will find that most of the moves are the same, just changed a little bit. You may want to start with LowMax b/c she teaches you the routine first on that one, not like Imax3 where you just get right into it. Watch it (Imax 3)a few times first, then try just the step combos, once you get the hang of the step, start incorporating the blasts. If you get Low Max, master that, then Imax 3 will feel like a breeze.

Good luck! :)

Thanks, I have Low Max and do that one once a week. Love that one. My legs are fried after it. Well, maybe I won't be so scared of Imax 3 then! Do you teach step? I used to teach high impact aerobics back in 88 and 89.

Yes, I teach about 7-10 step classes a week, I do all Cathe's intensity stuff so the Imax3 didn't feel hard for me b/c I am so used to talking the whole time and jumping around like a kangaroo, but I will say when I first tried Imax2, I wanted to fall on the floor and die! I think it's just what you are used to. I never knew there was an Imax original. Where can I find it? I looked on her dvds and didn't see it.

It's called Interval Max. If you buy DVD's it's on Rhythmic Step. So, you get RS, Interval Max, and Maximum Intensity Cardio (MIC) all on one DVD for $49.99. I don't have that one yet either. Welcome aboard. These forums are so addicting, but helpful!

I have been so addicted to Lowmax that I hadn't even tried Imax 3 until this past weekend. I did the all step premix and found that the step routines were pretty easy to pick up. I struggled on the first time through each one, started picking up the steps on the second, and by the third and fourth times though I was doing pretty well.

My suggestion to you if you are having problems getting the moves down is to break it down and do the all step premix a few times, then start adding in the blasts.

I have had this since it came out and just this morning finally did it the whole way through. I am step challenged to say the least. Every other time I have attempted it, after about 10-15 minutes I got frustrated with the steps and put something else on. Now that I stumbled my way through it, I am going to try to do it twice a week and get really good at it. I couldn't get the most out the intensity today, because I was more focused on getting the steps right. After I get it down though, I can tell it must be at least as intense as IMAX.

It's the toughest and most fun in my book! I really hate mambo cha cha moves so a couple step segments bother me, but overall a great workout. It gets the heartrate up quickly and stays up throughpout the workout. The choreography isn't nearly as complex as some of the CIA's I have attempted. I catch on to Cathe fairly quickly.

Thanks everyone. I took your advice and did the Step Only Premix. What a great idea. I only had to rewind it 3 times. I'll work on that a couple more times and then add in those blasts.

Dallas

Forgot to ask, when I did the premix mentioned above my DVD player hesitated/freezed. I recall, other threads about this. Is this normal with premixes? I usually don't do pemixes, so I haven't encountered this problem. I'll try and do a search, but I don't have time now.

Thanks, Dallas
