IMax 3 Question

Beth1

Cathlete
So, just how much harder is Imax 3 in comparison to Imax 1? I love IMax 1 & 2, though find that my heart rate stays between 88-92% during all intervals in 1; in Imax 2 it only gets up there after the first 3 or 4. But I love them both, love doing them. Thing is, I finally ordered Imax 3 - wasn't going to because everything I read about it actually scared me. Now, I see it's back in stock and being shipped. So - am I right to be scared - is it that much harder. I am in my late 40's, work out 6 days a week and love and do high impact at least 2 days a week - but am I going to have to find a 20 -30 year old person to give this tape to??
Will apppreciate any answers, actually dreamt about trying to do Imax 3 last night - it was a bit of a nightmare (and I've never seen the workout!!).
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to reply.

Caren,

Don't be afraid of IMAX 3...sure it's tougher and you may have to work your way up to it or maybe you'll be just fine. I am 40 years old and I don't plan on putting mine aside anytime soon. Just go for it and make modifications if necessary. IMAX 3 is my favorite!!

Let us know how it goes once you get a chance to try it...

The recovery time in-between the interval and the step portion is shorter for the "hardcore" aspect (so Cathe says in the w/o). I end up pausing to catch my breath. IMAX 1 the recovery time is enough for me. IMAX2, I'm not too sure, my dvd was messed up so they are sending me a new one...

LOL! Yes, it's definitely harder, but you could start out by doing just intervals 1-5 and then add step/interval combos as you master them. I did some other cardio and then worked on Imax 3 little by little. Or you could do the step only premix to get the choreography down.

I was afraid of this one too, but now really love doing this Imax.

Let us know what you think.

Marietta ~ You go on with your bad self...I didn't know you were 40! You work out like a 20 something year old!:)

Hi, I actually think Imax 1 is more difficult. Maybe not dancy wise, but harder cardiovascular wise. I love Imax 3, it is my favorite of the Imaxes. Have fun. The music is great and motivating. I am 42 and I'll be doing this for a long time.

Personally I find IMAX3 to be the easiest of the 3. The recovery time might be shorter & the choreography more complex, but IMO the blasts aren't as difficult. The original IMAX is still the one that scares me the most.

The thing about IMAX3 that I find difficult is that there is alot of jumping up on to and off of the step. Because of all the jumping, I do this workout at 6 inches, compared to the 8 in step I use for 1 &2. It's quite a workout on 6 inches. I can't imagine doing 3 with an 8 inch step.

RE: IMax 3

Now I'm really looking forward to getting it.
First time I did Imax 1 I felt like the greatest athlete on earth (just because I lived and enjoyed myself, odd aren't we); first time I did Imax 2, I hated myself and Cathe - me for being so amazingly uncoordinated, her for making the moves so complex (when you're dying I don't think you should have to think that much). But when I finally got the steps (well - still have to master a couple) I just loved it. So I will take the advice of watching and learning it before I just jump in. Thank you all - I am so looking forward to this.
And as for being scared of Imax 1 - I've trained myself to hear Cathe's voice saying "anyone can do anything for one minute" that helps - also takes time out of being able to hear my muscles scream.

I will definitely post after I try it.

IMHO I-Max the Original is the toughest, I-max 3 is next toughest, and I-Max 2 is the least toughest. If you can do I-max 1, and the demon Blast #9 in I-max 2 (there are a few thousand plie jacks in one of the I-max 3 blasts that'll send you right to the moon), then you can do I-Max 3 just fine. Do not under any circumstances give it to anyone.

Imax 2 is a great deal of fun, and I didn't have too much trouble with Imax 1. In my opinion, Imax 3 is the hardest, but I wouldn't give it away. You can always do part of it and tack it on to another workout, and I love the music to it. The music of Imax 1 is a bit boring to me.

Just to let you know this is not a huge accomplishment. I am taller than Cathe and most of the crew, and usually an 8 inch step works best for me.

Thank you A-Jock, I love Imax 1 and can do Blast #9 (love it, even though my plies are not quite plies yet)and now can't wait to try Imax 3. I will not give it to anyone, hope I don't fall off the step on Monday.
Really love reading your posts. I learn a lot from you.

Caren, I am 49 and hope to never have to give away IMax 3!! I actually enjoy the shorter rests and this workout really improved my cardiovascular ability--I really noticed it in my swimming. It can be tough on the knees, but until/unless problems come up, go for it!

Thank YOU, Caren / Beth1. One of the things I love about I-max 3 is that it mushes together most, if not all, of the real nosebleed drills from I-max 1 and 2: you've got your plyo-lunge interval (performed on the step, whereas I-Max 1's is on the floor with "power scissors"; you've got your plyo jacks AND your airborne jacks AND your tuck jumps (all cuddled up into one blast); you've got pure plie jacks with criss-cross-squat "recoveries"; you've got your Power 7's; and a couple of newbies (like bounding jumps).

Like Lala, I too have noticed an increased power capacity in my legs from I-max 3 (I usually just do the blast only premix) in my aquatic workouts and my land workouts, and IMHO plie jacks and plyo lunges ("power scissors") are the best leg power builders out there.

And again: never, ever give away a Cathe DVD. You'll always have another use for it.
